sometimes the wow setting is so human focused i forget sylvanas wasn’t an ex-human (nathanos was tho)
oh well, ex-human with long ears, she was a high elf anyway lol

So the Arbiter gets buggered, Oribos shuts down and all the super millenia old eternals just go “eh, probably no big deal lmao, lets not think about it”
seems like they got hit with the idiot bat to me
yeah high elves and humans are functionally identical, little point making any real distinction
Well thats because of the Purpose™
(The Purpose is the guiding principle of the Shadowlands, and it is the reason the Attendants exist in Oribos. It also keeps the realms of Death in balance. The Purpose is the belief that the Shadowlands follows a pattern laid out by the Arbiter in her infinite wisdom)
According to Fatescribe Roh-Tahl, “All beings in the endless cycle serve the Purpose—even those who do so unknowingly or unwillingly.” The Attendants of Oribos trust it so implicitly, some even claim that all souls flowing to the Maw must be a part of the Purpose. However, some Attendants have begun to question their faith in the Purpose as they cannot understand why the souls are flowing to the Maw.
Since the Attendants are the “Voice” of the Arbiter thus the Purpose, I guess the Leanders got so used to their “wisdom”, no one questioned what they do and why they do it… makes sense to an extent
(The Purpose may be a form of ancient technology. Caretaker Kah-Toll says, “The Purpose is ancient. Possibly beyond your comprehension. This technology is divine.” The Purpose may have been constructed by the First Ones.)
“Oh weird we’re not getting anymore souls”, says Kyriestia the Archon, she who was created by the First Ones to watch over and guide Bastion, eternal in her service to the machinations of death. “Even though we’re still ferrying souls from life to the afterlife no new ones are coming through and our portal link to Oribos has been shut off. Strange!”
“Oh well lol, I’m gonna go day-drinking. Slurrrrrrp.” (that’s the sound of her drinking animalcohol through a novelty straw).
I have returned from the grave to once again say.
I was right, and Elune endorsed me.
None of them were worthy it seems to be a noble Kyrian… they must have ended up in some other place
Its hard to find a noble soul these days…
Okay, takes a bit of a mental gymnastics but… could understand it
bless you, i’m glad i never doubted your ways
Honestly adored night elves in Warcraft 3, thought they were pretty damn neat. How far they’ve fallen.
Not to mention the entire World of Warcraft stereotype of “wronged women become vindictive, which is bad therefore they must be shown the error of their ways.” That good old-fashioned staple suddenly seems even more distasteful than it was before.
That’s the only thing worth commenting on, to be honest. The writing is just an example of even more Shadowlands idiocy, in which Blizzard ruin the characters and setting that they have spent twenty years building, in order to facilitate the writing of meandering, convoluted garbage that is riddled with innumerable contradictions and oversights.
If anyone out there still enjoys the narrative of this game, congratulations, I wish I had your brain instead of mine.
I find it fascinating how fractally broken this expansion’s writing is. It’s broken at every level of resolution. Trying to discern the reasons behind one plot hole just reveals new ones.
As stated in honorary nelf mode; renewal comes from Orgrimmar’s crags being rendered a compost heap.
You can have both vengeance and whatever is even renewal in this context aaaaaaaaaa
I just find it strange how Elune, an -actual- goddess, can be outdone by Bwonsamdi, a -demi-god, when it comes to keeping the souls of their people out of the Maw.
Honestly at this point I’d love to help them write the story for -free- since apparently a writer’s degree is not needed.
I am rationalising it by thinking that he is very specifically involved in the ferrying of his souls. Like that is his whole deal.
Elune has seemingly delegated it to the Shadowlands system.
Doesn’t excuse it. But that is how I am choosing to make it okay.
The vast playerbase to Blizzard :
"STOP IT, GET SOME HELP!"
B-but Elune sets the souls of the slain into the sky as stars!
Perhaps. It’s also still not explained why Tyrande suddenly ran out of juice when she had her hands around Sylvie’s throat ( Probably due to Sylvie’s Proto Layered Optimal Titan Armor).
At any rate… given the current state of things, I actually dread to see the small appearance that Arthas is supposed to have in the story. What do you guys think will happen? He and Sylvie become friends? Arthas deletes himself out of the story a la Garrosh?
I believe Elenthas has already explained this and so I will defer the matter to him.
Sylvanas did manage to do one thing for this expansion… She killed hope.
Actiblizzard succeeded in constantly drilling their way through what we thought was the bottom of the barrel. This is an achievement in it of itself.
Arthas’ soul, the real one and not the Lich King puppet, emerges from the Kingsmourne crystal and uses all his anima to stab Sylvanas to stop her and redeem himself.
Is what I’d guessed until the latest raid cinematic.
Now though? Probably some halfcheeked sidequest along the way to save Anduin’s soul.
