So, something crossed my mind. Possibly copium at work. Some spoilers bellow.
Prehaps Sylvanas breaking the sky in Icecrown was ment to directly connect Azeroth to the Shadowlands. A connection that the Jailer is now using in the raid to attack Azeroth and… drain the azerite? Going by that screenshot.
Ofcourse, that nowhere near makes up for the mess things are… but prehaps it means the breaking sky open has some meaning.
Edit: Oh yeah, in a recent interview, The Starting Zone I think it was? One of the devs mentioned that in the Arbiters chamber is a odd portal out that is supposedly connected to Zereth Mortis. And that its been there the whole time. I took a look there now as I passed by on an alt and I think I found it.

I’m inclined to agree with Tehya - I don’t think this is a trial, pretty sure it’s going to be a speech and/or rallying cry where Sylv becomes the leader, especially since she has an encrypted model.

So how’s this boss fight going to go? With the Jailer, I mean?
He teleports you to some rift in the Maw and says
“Here where I have been forced to retreat time and time again, you will meet your demise.”
Then you have to button mash.
You clutch the crystal of Sylvanas close to your chest and wish upon it with all your heart.
“And so it ends in unceremonious silence.”
The in a beam of light, Sylvanas appears and delivers your raid from the rift with a snap of her fingers.
“You… it cannot be!”
Then she turns away, gives a sad side glance and bansheefarts way.

dam bro i can’t believe u massively misinterpreted what you’re clutching in that scene and who comes to save you
but yeah i expect something of the sort to happen when the jailer does his patented ‘boring handwave and then everyone is chained instantly but i never actually kill them despite clearly perceiving them as a threat to my plans’ move.

I expect them to double down on Arthas and Wrath references so he’s 100% going to do something like that when he’s at 10% HP, then you’re chained and your NPC buddy (Sylvanas) frees you and it’s a free kill from there.
It’s called SFA, which can stand for Sylvanas Faces Arbiter.
Can’t wait for Pelagosbot to look at her and decide that having any form of Undeath is a mistake. Then consequently declare that Sylvanas, the Forsaken, the Scourge, Death Knights and every other undead must be put down and sent to the Shadowlands.
Queue the next faction war where the Alliance agrees with this while the Horde opposes it. Then Sylvanas closes the rift at Icecrown so we don’t have to deal with the Shadowlands ever again.
Alliance stans finally get their wish: They get to be the genocide faction for once.
Where’s Magni in all of this?

The guards are facing the crowd and sheltering Sylvanas so I’d say it’s the reverse
in fact, this is the exact moment where Sylvanas will reveal that we are the ones who are actually on trial…
