We cried out to Blizzard-

“Please, make your game good, and stop abusing your staff!”

From up on high, Blizzard gazed down at us, smiled and said

“When the imposter is sus!

I’m losing my mind

Autobots, roll out!

Please don’t insult the Autobots, or transformers, by linking it in any way, shape or form, to this game :frowning:

There’s warrior sets from 10 years ago that are higher quality, more iconic, and more 3D looking. There are weapons from WotLK that are still amongst the best looking in the entire game in regards to detail, theme, and design.

Blizzard…

…what happened???

All I see from the modern devs is spite toward not only the old playerbase but toward the old guard in Blizz because they can’t admit they can’t make the game better than what they made it.

Winner’s curse.

I could try to say something witty but the best thing I can do is link this again.

At this point I’m starting to think the game is beyond redemption. In this expansion they trashed the whole metaphysics of the game. I don’t think we’ll turn back from here.

9.2 is giving the final blow to the lore. I don’t have any hopes for the future of Warcraft anymore.

For all my dunkposting I am very curious as to how they’re going to wrap this whole thing up. Arbiter or no Arbiter, the Shadowlands is a pretty cruel place from what the Maw Walker has been exposed to. We’ve not seen (merely been told) about all the nice+good afterlives that people can go to.

The Kyrians say they’ll let aspirants keep their memories now but like…will they? [X] to doubt. Maldraxxus is basically unchanged - still so dangerous that other covenants don’t want to call on them, still happy to grind up souls into abominations. Venthyr might be a little nicer under Renathal but ultimately they’re still gay gothic vampires, so a bit of torture is kind of they thing. And, of course, the Maw. Are they going to get rid of it?

One of Sylvanas’ (stated, potentially retcon’d) motivations was dealing with the injustice of the Shadowlands - that you were judged by this so-called ‘superior’ being and had to accept their judgement*, and thematically her objections gel with a lot of what’s come before in WoW: That decisions should be made by mortals, not by higher powers. Illidan’s rejection of Xe’ra/the Light, the Aspects talking about the ‘Age of Mortals’, the zealotry of the Lightbound, convincing Algalon of the potential of mortals and, as Rhoning would say, FREE WILL. Even Tyrande’s decision to use the Night Warrior powers - her ‘demand’, instead of ‘request’ to Elune.

All of that adds up to a game which has one of its throughlines being mortals carving their own destinies, rather than having it decided for them by a “higher power”.

And yet, since 9.2 is the last patch of Shadowlands and it’s focused on the Jailer trying to slurp up Azeroth’s milkshake, I get the feeling that we’re really going to go back to the status quo. Tonally, this is dissonant with a lot of things from the previous expansions. Sure, there’s no objective problem with a theme shifting or exploring other ideas, but it is…strange. And if you wanted to be very ungenerous to the writers you can read a metaphor into that with regards to their approach between designers/writers + players.

*except when you don’t, since apparently you can also just leave your assigned afterlife according to the broker book???

+Night Fae where you don’t actually get to join them as one of the faun people or a faerie and instead you spend eternity as an aardvark.

There was a Broker book?

The Shadowlands Grimoire or whatever it was called. The Chronicles version of Shadowlands was written from a broker perspective. I didn’t buy it, but it apparently mentions one guy getting tired/border of his assigned afterlife (bastion or ardenweald iirc?) and deciding to just…leave and go to a different afterlife.

I’m not gonna try to find the quote just believe me unconditionally that it’s true, in true Shadowlands fashion.

The souls saved from the Maw stay Night Elven in Ardenweald, so I suppose its their own choice to change into whatever animalform they want or if they stay how they are?

Unless there is some kind of procedure, to go through… Like how people arrive as spirits in Bastion, then become blue Humans and then become Ascended(I suppose?)
