PTR Spoiler/Discussion Thread (Part 2)

Should be given to night elves.
Throne room? Sir, this is a temple of Elune now.

I knew you were secretly a high elf fan.

You don’t say… After all, it’s not like Blizzard directors and executives actively went out of their way to remove work from home just to push away talents in order to “optimize” spending.

How bad it’s gonna affect DF, I can’t say, but it definitely will.

I could buy this considering the majority of the Horde’s OG races were at one point or another rendered close to extinct.

With my eyes closed, bro.

Seriously, those are some egregious errors you mentioned. I’m a filthy casual, but eve I can quote evidence against all of that from memory just by having played the games.

Maybe you’re right, but I can’t help feeling that some night elves characters, Tyrande in particular, are written to make player dislike her. Whole questline with Varian in Pandaria, the infamous Val’sharah and her terrible behavior towards Thalysra, her escape from siege of Teldrasill with wounded Malfurion even if she could heal him and keep fighting, the entire SL. In books Tyrande is depicted as a complex character, but in game when she appears, she’s always angry, shouting and arguing with others. I remember in some interview about pandaria some develpoer said that Tyrande has always been a hothead, and she had to learn patience from varian. look at the lack of her presence in bfa or SL, if creators don’t hate her, they certainly don’t care too much

Maybe a bit of a tepid take but i don’t think characters need to be written as likeable, this goes for Tyrande or say, Anduin. In fact i’d go so far as to say the worst characters Blizzard have generated are those that they push as plucky and likeable . Zappy boy is a big example, Anduin too.

Nothing wrong with liking a character who’s an utter A-hole.

Could she? I can’t recall ever seeing Tyrande do any form of healing, off the top of my head.

Being a bastard was Nathanos’ finest quality. I don’t want every major character to be a superfriend.

True, yet in typical Blizzard fashion they wield characterisation like it’s a cosh.

She’s a priestess, in the end. She most definitely can heal people. She did so with Broxigar, for example (first WotA book).

Yeah, I think the RPG explained it that Stormwind was flooded with refugees from Lordaeron, Dalaran, Stromgarde, Gilneas, because their nations were ruined, or in the case of Gilneans, they were locked out because of the Greymane Wall.

She’s actually an exceptional healer. In the War of the Ancients she was able to heal those that other Sisters of Elune were unable.

Thus other priestesses thought she was like, super-blessed, so they made her the new High Priestess of Elune after her predecessor died.

Huh. Odd that she seems to never ever do any healing in WC3 and WoW, at least to my memory.

If I remember correctly, RPG lore didn’t go that in-depth about this being why Stormwind’s human population was so large, although it makes sense. Stormwind was the largest human city remaining, it was the de-facto capital of the Grand Alliance and its members flocked to the city, so you had lots of cool lore like the church bell ringing at sunset for the nocturnal night elves, celebrating both dwarven and high elven festivals and more. They even have big floppy hats.

She doesn’t do any notable healing in WC3 because the Priestess of Elune cannibalised an earlier ranger hero and used most of its abilities. The most recent time Tyrande healed someone was I think Malfurion, after Saurfang delivered a fatal wound.

why does this thread specifically refuse to give me notifications i don’t have it muted or anything blizzard please for the love of god can you stop touching the forums for five minutes thank you

That explains a lot, and I guess from there it just bled over into WoW for a good long while.

it’s very easy with elenthas

him talking about sylvanas being elune and whatnot? clearly ironic and not serious at all

him talking about his multi-billion dollar corpo? clearly serious, we should eat him now.

Honestly wish the War of Thorns wasn’t that one sided, or at least post-Night Warrior blessing Night Elves could’ve taken back Azshara / make it contested. Maybe blow up a race track or two, or sabotage the dumb Goblin weapon thing so people can just stop mentioning it in any situation.

but no, that’d require changing a few models.

In Elegy, Tyrande also heals the damaged lungs of refugees in Stormwind.

Well technically, Stormwind’s population dwarfing the entire horde is irrelevant in light of a vast civilian population unfit to defend it or anything else while the Horde and orcs in particular is a heavily militarized lot evidently capable of overrunning large territories and occupying them. A much smaller outright civilian population gives a disproportionately large army.

But then we get BfA where the blues are scraping the barrel numerically due to constant losses.

For whatever reason it was written in a way that seriously tramples night elves, demonstrating their military incompetence, overrunning them with their own favoured ambush tactics (Army of Rogues) and burning down an enormous country-sized tree with intercontinental demolishers.

Movie Stormwind is a pretty cool representation of the diversity of it. In the large shots you can see a few Elven buildings, the Dwarven district is obviously industrial and dwarven, it’d be nice to see that diversity in a HD Stormwind if it ever happens but I know they’ll just update the 2004 graphics and call it a day instead of actually revamping and increasing the city size.

I’m pretty sure this was the subject of a few mission board quests on both sides.

There’s even good space to expand the dwarf district with dwarf buildings and slapping down some elf-style buildings in the mage district but c’mon, man, we’re talking about alliance stuff here.
