PTR Spoiler/Discussion Thread (Part 2)

Does no-one else find that cinematic absolutely terrible?

Tyr casts Self-Destruct.
It’s super effective!
Zakazj the Corruptor has fainted.
Keeper Tyr has fainted.

eh, it’s fine, bit cheesy but WoW is.

Considering what the Titan’s legacy is though, not so sure we should be following up on it.

I don’t mind the cheesiness whatsoever, but the recycled explosion effects, Tirisfal looking the exact same way it does currently, lack of expressions, bad voice acting and the goofy as hell Tyr-charge just make it all look quite trash.

I find it profoundly boring that they made a cinematic for something we already knew happened 7272636 years ago and has literally no meaning in df’s already boring narrative on account of being 7272636 years ago

I found it more interesting than the end of Aberrus. So there’s that.

Yeah both are bad

How does it fit into the “Titans and Keepers are eeeeeevil” conspiracy people try to tell me on discord?

They’re human-shaped

It doesn’t. Admira, Aman’Thul. We are the children and the legacy of the Titans on Azeroth, with most of the playable races in some way having came from them (yes, you too, Orcs). My apologies to these people but what they want is a loot pinata god-punching-speed-run game to which I say: please play Yakuza or Dante’s Inferno or FFXIV instead.

It was never, in my opinion, going to make sense for that whole Dragonflight “Titans are actually evil and authoritarian and want to conquer everyone with fluoride in the water turning the people of Azeroth submissive and [redacted]able”. Seems like all that was largely intended to be a red herring to add some momentary depth to the Primalists for the 1 and a half patches they’re slated to be the big threat of Dragonflight until the real threat shows up. It’s rather difficult to give one of the Titan’s (Eonar) a love of all life (even the most despicable), only to then say they’re all totally evil, that wasn’t ever going to work out story-wise.

I mean the Titans don’t have a perfect track record. Looking at you, G’huun+Fetid Devourer. If I were a troll I’d be a bit iffy about anyone wanting to claim the “titan’s legacy”.

And like, they’re based off of old norse/greek gods, so them being fallible and not Good all the time is probably appropriate. Their penchant for putting genocide weapons in poorly secured vaults and their creations going rogue is a good sign that their legacy isn’t 100% all it’s cracked up to be. The mind controlling fluoride water isn’t exactly out of character for them.

Taking Tyr, one of the titan keepers, at their word about the titans being good, is kinda like taking my word at the Ebon Blade being really cool guys who an definitely 1v1 you. It certainly might be true, there’s some evidence to suggest it’s the case, but there’s also a big bias to be concerned about.

The thing is that the Titans and most of the Titan Keepers are pretty good in their motivations and their track record. Of course, they do have some nuances in how they’ve not done things perfectly, and the writers seem to be really playing into that.

They’ve written the Old Gods and adyacent factions to prey on the fact that the Titans do often hide the things they’ve done badly which they often try to their best to hide, even if it’s not something world ending whatsoever.

That doesn’t make the Old Gods any better by far. They’ve still done plenty more of absolutely horrendous stuff on Azeroth, either directly or by proxy. They have just written them in such a way that they fill you with enough doubt to question if the titans are really the good ones, especially if you’re vulnerable.

Unless you’re Azshara, in which case they just need to wait until you’re desperate enough and offer you a pair of keys to your new void-corrupted home which they’ll happily give you a tour of, and still leave out how they’ll twist you into an absolutely body horror’d version of yourself the moment you set a foot into your new ‘home’.

Feels very mis-matched to the rest of Titan lore IMHO, it feels often like we have 2 teams writing for the Titans and their Keepers; one who wants to keep the OG Metzen vision, benevolent mystery Gods who have processes beyond mortal thought, and then we have the more Dragonflight-Uldir writing team who just seem to write a lot of morally ambiguous nonsense for the sake of doing so. Sorry but the size of the dogwhistle in Danuser’s interview about the effects of fluoride in drinking water should’ve gotten him investigated.

Freya and Eonar wouldn’t, from the lore we have of the Legion artefacts, been at all cash-money with the Fetid Devourer situation and it goes against both their character’s MO’s.

Honestly, I feel that a mistake people often commit is thinking that Titan Keepers and Titans are the same. Most of the non-well meaning stuff we’ve seen from Titanic-alligned characters have either been Sargeras (duh) or Titan Keepers that eventually became corrupted or are just all-round not very nice people.

This is just an observation I have though, I could be overthinking it; but I do think that the tonal shift between these two groups could be perfectly intentional.

Back in Vanilla, when Titans were still seen as near-omnipotent gods with a lot of mysticism about themselves, they still showed Titan Keepers getting corrupted as early as Ahn’Qiraj. All the corrupted Anubisath (and all similar mobs inside of Ahn’Qiraj) are all corrupted Titan Keepers and Titanforged Giants.

The thing with Titans and Keepers is that even if they are anything but the same, a lot of people don’t know the difference. Remember how Talanji called a lesser keeper a Titan? And she’s far from the only one, same goes with the vrykul and Odyn. So when we have people like Odyn, Helya or Ra-Den around with their overwhelming powers, it’s not that hard to mistake them for the Titans themselves. But it’s a matter of RP, rather than lore.

I mean, the Titans of Metzen’s era still had stuff like Algalon knocking around who was ready to go nuclear on the planet.

That’s one titan and one keeper out of a (literal) pantheon. Important to remember that Sargeras wasn’t like…corrupted by magic. He just got really upset and turned evil because of it, a pretty strong indicator that they’re not all perfect paragons of…well, perfection. If they can fall, then they can have foibles - including Uldir.

And like, we can’t just say “oh the titan keepers screwed up, the titans are alright”. If we’re talking about their legacy then “(debatably) good intentions marred by consistent disappointment” isn’t the best legacy to want to live up to.

SO apparently, the Silver Hand will be involved in the story surrounding Tyr?

You visit Tyr’s Grave and you find out the last member of the Tyr’s Guard from Legion, Travard. He tells you the rest have been slain, and that he’s sure that the order will not survive when he’s gone.

Then, at the end of this questline, you get small glimpse of Tyr momentarily coming back to life for a few seconds partially thanks to his help back in Tyr’s Tomb, with him witnessing it alongside others.

While the Silver Hand is not currently involved, Travard’s reaction in this ending of the questline mentions how he will let the rest of the Silver Hand know about what’s going on and what he’s seen, and that they’ll want to help since they’re followers of Tyr.

He also mentions that if the Aspects allow it, his new post will be protecting Tyr’s new physical body, and be ready to assist again should they want to attempt to bring Tyr back to life again.

I guess Silver Hand RPers will have a compelling reason to visit the Dragon Isles sooner than later.

I’m just happy that they’re using the Legionfall Orders again.

Vanessa VanCleef and a plot where the Defias and their lore is given a little update and progression in the Human heritage questline, now the Silver Hand and Tyr’s Tomb.
