Like I said, the planet functions like King Kai’s world from DBZ. The view from the Vindicaar is but an illusion from the Old Gods or Titans.
It’s astounding that Teldrassil’s roots, despite being a 30-40 years old world tree still burrowed deep enough to reach Harandar but okay, magical tree. The Haranir not asking questions as to why the roots of that one in particular have grown so fast and so deep alongside all the periods where said tree along with several others were sick and corrupted. It retroactively makes the Haranir to be massive idiots, no I don’t care they have a rule that says “No venturing above ground.” even Trolls out of pure curiosity decided to check on a C’thrax despite their Loas’ warning. That the Haranir don’t do their job thoroughly in the face of danger makes them further morons.
And About the Rift of Aln, what’s up with that? Correct if I’m wrong but that is a creation of the Nightmare and Void aligned beings, something inherently foreign to its natural state and I do not remember that what happens in the Dream also is echoed into the physical realm and vice-versa.
It is my sincere wish that a faction druid, Nelf or Tauren visits Harandar, learns of this and is the most petty character when interacting with them, denigrating them for their constant abscence in the face of not only the destruction and death of those trees above ground but also several instances of world ending threats.
Regarding the Haranir. Now, I have not gone in-depth to look at the Haranir’s lore, but I wonder if they are a missed opportunity?
They could have tied a lot of their lore to the druids and green dragons. This could give taurens and night elves a renewed spotlight, it could have had us explore the Dream, and so forth.
We could have fleshed out previously-established lore, instead this looks like rewriting old lore, recontextualizing, all the things players have said they are sick about.
If by that moment the grove was inhabited by creatures suspected to be Old Gods’ creations (and as far as the titans knew all organic life of that time was their minions), it absolutely made sense to shoot first and dissect later. This is a pattern normal for the titan keepers whenever Old Gods are involved. After purging all the risks Freya might well have made Hyjal a spiritual nexus point, it doesn’t contradict itself.
Not that I’ve seen, but the Haranir live there because that is where the roots reach rather than the roots reaching there because of the Haranir. It seems like that the voice of Azeroth called them to Harandar after the Titans’ arrival.
While I’ve moaned about this particular topic more than enough already, it’s always fun to grumble about the diversity of options that the haranir have gotten.
But that doesn’t make sense either. The first world tree, Nordrassil was only planted after the Sundering 10000 years ago. The titans arrival is at least another 10000+ years previous, possibly even further back.
So the Haranir couldn’t have been ‘called’ to live in Harander because the roots are there because no roots would be there when they moved in.
… that’s… true. So there couldn’t have been any roots when they got there… so what did Harandar look like at that point? What was the point of Harandar at all then? Was it just the Worldsoul chamber? Or were the roots of Elun’Ahir the first to shape the Cradle of Aln’hara? I don’t even know if that adds up with the timeline. I suppose that could have happened before the Titans sent the Keepers about their business (need someone with more lore knowledge than myself to confirm or debunk this)
The roots converge for the same reason the sun well is a light nuke. Magicy magicy. Or the titans built a thing in a place where people already were and the roots converge to that thing.
I guess a lot depends on how reliable is the narrator in midnights lore dump.
The idea that Freya the life keeper would blindly dronestrike wildlife and native populace on the offchance they might be related to Old Gods is such a gross and hilarious notion that it’s probably exactly what the writers had in mind.
I’m just waiting for them to decide that the Keepers had in fact a built-in failsafe allowing the Titans to assume direct control and it’s from that same feature that the Old Gods used to corrupt them.
It makes perfect sense in a stupid way. The Keepers either will forget the experience or never recall it happening while Aman’thul, Khaz’Goroth, Golganneth, etc have piloted them like Gundam.
Somehow we don’t have mentions of Freya protesting implementing tools like the Forge of Origination, intended exactly to factory reset the planet in case the Old Gods gain too much ground. Not to mention the experiments in Uldir, including “controlled” infestation of local wildlife and even loa with the taint of G’huun after assembling it from the essence of other Old Gods. For what it’s worth, Freya was all about mantaining controlled, pure ecology without concern for individual specimens or even species, just like any other Titan keeper we see in action.
This is a semi-misconception people have about origination. It doesn’t turn anything into a barren hellscape forever. There are several Titan Keepers (including the dude in Forge of Origination) whose jobs it is to make sure that life survives and thrives post-void cleasning origination.
This is also not true and does not align with all the various Druid and Monk artifact stories she’s involved in.
Even if so, the Harronir have been dealt the same hand the mantid and nerubians got. Presumed to be creatures of the Old Gods, they had to flee wherever possible in face of impending annihilation. Nothing exactly new here, aside from all the pointless retcons regarding the world trees.
Yet the Keepers didn’t dronestrike the trolls, another pre-Titan native species.
At first I was neutral about the Haranir, but the more I learn about them, the more I dislike them, their lore, their inclusion and everything about them.
