PvP addons are cheating by the way

What’s cheating? Let’s start with the definition.

“Cheating in video games involves a video game player using various methods to create an advantage beyond normal gameplay, in order to make the game easier. Cheats may be activated from within the game itself, or created by third-party software.”

Knowing exactly the precise, exact timing of every single arena opponent’s trinkets and major cooldowns is cheating, as this data is not available in game, using WoW’s base UI settings.

The data granted by those addons allows good players to make plays that would otherwise be nearly impossible to pull off, such as using Spell reflection or Netherward a few milliseconds before Hammer of Justice’s cooldown resets for example.

No addon should be able to give you access to combat data that would otherwise not be available to you. If an addon provides such benefits, then this addons should be considered cheating.

Period.

As someone who really likes PvP I can rally behind this, but in my most radical idea id erase/ban ALL addons in WoW that aren’t UI/font.
Addons in PvE create a disgusting amount of elitism, don’t forget that.
It’s one of the reasons it made me not do PvE in the past.
Erase one? ERASE ALL.

I had no idea, as I’m not really into PvE. Would you mind elaborating?

The damage meters, for one. I don’t know the name, but people get harassed and are in danger of being kicked for being “x in the dps meter”.
Not only that, but DBM, DeadlyBossMod or something, don’t know it’s name either, is an addon that pretty much tells you the whole deal of the fight.
If you don’t have it, you can’t predict what the bosses will do, so you’re in a disadvantage by not using it.
You can read tactics but DBM does all the work for you IIRC.
Things like gearscore or Raider IO make people become elitist to the point only certain specs, built in a specific way can apply for high tier raiding.
Of course, all of this can simply be avoided by joining a chill guild who doesn’t care about meta, like I have, for now. Im yet to see if the guild actually acts as they say.
Think there’s another one but right now I can’t remember it, but you get the picture.

Actually it is, if you wanted to be literal about it.
It’s just harder to keep track off in your head.

Good players don’t slap their spells as soon as they come off CD. You can absolutely predict these events without addons. You prevent that CC for a reason.

Wrong. DBM helps, it doesn’t play the game for you.

Elitist is a term people throw out when someone does something that they personally consider too much effort.
Thinking damage meters or DBM cause elitism is laughable.

Pugs will ALWAYS find a reason to be elitist about something. You moved one inch to the left despite not needing to? HOW DARE YOU?! etc etc

For Guild (Mythic) raiding Damage meters are essential (afaik these can be revolved around by using logs) as numbers are very important in terms of downing a lot of bosses during progress. And its not about your position on the meters there (there is always one at the bottom) but about whether or not you pull enough dps for your gear level. You are expected to pull your weight and not to be boosted. Ofc there are exceptions where your overall DPS will be utter dogpoop because of a certain job you got for the encounter in question (be it soaking mechanics in narnia, popping dmg at certain points (hello Azshara you big fat C-Block)).

It makes it easier. Afaik its not needed. DBM and BigWigs are the lesser evils as you tend to ignore them after a while anyhow because the fight becomes second nature.

Weakaura however is an entire different matter as that is pretty much essential considering how some bosses are designed with weakaura in mind (ra-den would be a decent example for this tier). Weakaura is however not required for Normal and Heroic.

It doesnt. It helps. Thats all. Its once again not required.

That has been the case even before GS and IO. And it also will always be the case. Cookie Cutter is a term that exists for a reason. High Tier raiders dont give a flying poop about your IO score. They care about your class being acceptable for the encounter (IO and GS both not being needed for that) and your performance in general because a poop player on the best class is still not being taken against a good player on a non meta class for that particular encounter. High Tier raiders usually have several classes Raid ready anyhow however.

Even if all addons would be banned you still wouldnt get rid of elitism as people will always find something.

So you would stop players with disablities playing ? People that have sight/sound problems ? and other disablities just because YOU dont like addons ?

If it’s an API functionality permitted by Blizzard it ain’t cheating… cry all you want, OP. The default UI is atrocious.

It isn’t cheating because everyone is allowed to use them.

I built a strategy over this in arena by using 1 cd reduction corruption on my Pally I don’t remember the name of that corruption, I would have my wings back on my pally before opponents have back their defensive cds. Ineffable Truth I guess, just one rank1 of them used to give me an advantage and create a kill opportunity.

It is necessary to use such addons if you aim to climb the ladder, it ain’t cheating.

There were few, wont name em, top pvp players, well known, that had those nay sayers in twitch coments etc " your ui is playing your game cuz it tracks everything blah blah blah what not nonesne" so they decided to turn off ui, not addons, wholrle ui, action bars,HP bars, everything, they still played the same…

Yes, there are addons that are considered cheating, and a lot of them was banned( classic decurse comes to mind) but changing your Ui and tracking something u can track otherwise isnt cheating at all, its more QoL kind of stuff

Depends what UI…I mean I’m no wizard but I am an altoholic and i can tell you now that most big cds have a 2 minute or 3 minute CD, most kicks have x-CD and as far as I’m aware balance/s-priest have the longest without talent changes.

Damage meters is not elitism in pve (well maybe in LFR only), everyone at mythic level understands themselves, that they need to do decent damage, to kill a boss. But at lower tier raiding where ppl just wants a raid kill with their 0zdps - then ppl get kicked for doing less dmg than tanks and are not happy about it.
And at high raiding levels no one blames a person for low damage if he is doing some complex boss tactics, which hurt his damage output. But in LFR such person would be kicked because of pve elitism.

Well as for addons - bosses should be toned down really hard if no addons would be allowed. They are now deisgned with an assumtion, that ppl use dbm and weak auras. But i prefer this addons way, than bosses with 1 mechanic.

I agree with zug zug just keep economy and ui addons via an updated default ui setting interface

well in pve it doesnt realy matter to much if addons shows you what happens and when, I can though understand in pvp it can be annoying, if you do not have theese addons your self and the opponent is so fast whit interupts every time it can look like he is cheating, happen to my self also where I get those wtf moments.
but I do think if things like cds for the opponent would be hidden, pvp could actualy become better also, and not relay on addons there.

Just because Blizzard allow cheating doesn’t mean it’s not cheating.
That’s like saying that just because Blizzard allow anti-white racism, it means it’s not anti-white racism. Nonsense.

Christie Golden…she made Anduin more feminine than females, muh boi cries 7/24 because he must not look toxicly masculine, I mean if you don’t cry constantly you are toxicly masculine you know, your eyes must constantly shine because of tears if you are a male…

On the other side of the coin there is that whatever Madlane Deloux (writer of the last book I don’t remember her unneccessary name exactly) she is hostile towards us, white males, she has rainbow toys in her room. not surprising at all :stuck_out_tongue: I was thinking about buying the book, luckily made a quick research about the author and saw that she is my enemy … so nope.

#WhiteLivesMatter, lets put here a white flag :white_flag:

It ain’t cheating, once again…

Just read the definition of cheating I started this thread with.
It is cheating.

Cheating is using forbidden softwares, not permitted ones Rompuchee.

You don’t get it. My point is: they should not be permitted.

Acts that are now considered crimes by today’s standards used to be perfectly legal a few hundred years ago. This changed because of people like me.

So from now on you shall get called as Rompuche the Revolutionist Spirit :smirk:

Who says that today’s crime standarts are not faulty? Especially verbal ones, everything is offensive :smirk:
