I played retail cata and it brought players back to the classic zones. Stormwind and ironforge was filled with people.
People asked for harder content as the wrath dungeons and half of the raids was a joke
Cata is to me when the leveling experience fell appart, so no reason to play it.
IIRC, it was mentioned in an interview with the content creator Crix. It’s on YT.
On topic, I won’t quit. The reason I disliked Cata was the world and questing redesign. If we didn’t have Classic Era (or HC or SoM/SoD for that matter) to preserve the old world, then yes I would have quit, but since we have them I’m content.
In fact… Even though I’ve been harping on about deleting my WotLK characters, last night I was actually considering giving Cata a chance but with a Worgen, and exclusively in the Eastern Kingdoms. Since practically all of my fond old world memories are of Kalimdor Horde side, I have little emotional investment Alliance side, and I never particularly liked questing in the Eastern Kingdoms (even though I never skip Hillsbrad, Arathi, STV and Hinterlads)… But between my Era characters, SoD and my very busy IRL schedule, I just won’t have the time.
What;s the fun of doing the same content all over again?? What’s the point?
I mean, if the content is fun, you’ll want to do it again. Sure at some point you’ll get bored for a while, but you’ll eventually miss it and want to do it again, if only for old times sake. The same would go for any leisure activity really.
If you are working for example (as i do) and can’t play game 18 hours as i was a kid your progress of char is way too long, and if you maybe want 2-3-4 alts to be also biss it’s already a few years.
And maybe you like questing and achievements? Add here also a year or more for each.
So there is a lot of content. Plus if you are playing on one expansion you won’t lose your progress and won’t start from 0.
What happened to #NOCHANGES ?
Oh yes… We have ERA servers.
But what comes to progression realms…
Classic is not classic when the old world is gone after the launch of Cataclysm.
I played original version(s) back in the days, including Cataclysm too.
It doesn’t even bring any nostalgic feelings, maybe because it is not so old game for nostalgic feelings.
In 4 years we have played the original WoW
(vanilla),TBC and WOTLK.
After the next 4 years we also have played and experienced Cataclysm, Mists of Pandaria and Warlords of Draenor too.
because leveling is not everything in wow?
you don’t need nostalgia to like an expansion. i think many people wanted cata hoping pandaria will follow. and when pandaria arrives i’m gonna drop dragonflight lol.
Nah, Cata was how I officially started playing WoW, I played a bit of WotLK. I really enjoyed my time playing Cata as a new player and still remember getting max level as a Warrior before Mists came out.
To me classic WoW is all about leveling.
Sorry if that offends you. Enjoy Cata. It’s not for me.
I barely played wotlk and will for sure stay away from cata. More than enough fun as a casual fart in ERA.
I might try the new season, but it has yet to win me over.
It’s supposed to be a MMORPG, levelling is the quintessential part of it. If the 30+ year old children got their way there wouldn’t be any levelling experience at all. It’s almost like they should be playing another game without any levelling.
Classic isn’t about the old world, it’s the experience of whatever version of the game was at the time. We have Vanilla Classic, TBC Classic, and that’s it. We never got WOTLK Classic, and Cata already isn’t Classic.
True my fella
no it isn’t offensive just an superlame argument. it’s not like they removed leveling enitrely. played on a pandaria private server last year and leveling took longer as i remember… of course it’s not so long like classic but still longer then dragonflight.
Are you sure?
In few years we have Dragonflight Classic, very classic feeling indeed
“We won’t play” and then friends or the general population goes play there and people will follow. And if someone doesn’t really really want to we have Era, HC and SoD, while SoD can also be played with other mode as it will be staggered with the releases and levels.
I don’t like Cata leveling. That’s not a “super lame arguement”. It’s a fact. Cata leveling is still on retail, but you can now skip it and do other zones instead.
Nothing to do on cata servers, will unsub
People have to realize one thing that i think we, more than once, fail to understand it’s Blizzard’s IP it’s their game not ours, we play this game for the love we have for the franchise and since the RTS game maybe for many of us, still it’s their product and we are here based on their design and vision for the game, if we aren’t happy with things we can always move on to other things, other games.
I think that one issue that WoW has had for years is that it manages to make the old content irrelevant, that is because here we progress in a vertical way always hunting for the next upgrade for gear, item level etc, i understand people aren’t happy about cata coming, no TBC servers, no Wrath servers but again it’s not our decision, maybe some of us need a game that respects our time or maybe one that doesn’t make old content irrelevant just because a new xpac is coming out, there’s game’s out there that achieve that.
Imagine this, now i don’t speak for the entire span of WoW, but imagine if Blizzard one day manages to launch servers from Vanilla, through TBC and ending in Wrath, releasing the patches for raids (at least) in a progressive way and within a specific time frame, imagine going from Onyxia’s Lair to Icecrown Citadel, the war effort that one has to do or help to do so that the gates of AQ open again, but wait there is a twist this time Blizzard, thanks to some tech or change, manages to make it so that all the world from Vanilla to WOTLK feels relevant…be a level 80 form a group and go back to raid Molten Core because it will reward you by doing so.
I just wanted to end up with this, Blizzard has the habit of showing us how much they care or read through these forums (i bet that many topics they do not), people instead of begging for stuff like the cloning service to be back, classic fresh, TBC servers or Wrath servers, people have to realize, once and for all, that a big corporation like Blizzard apart all the glamour of a Blizzcon, the language that they understand is money, they are a company, money as to go in to pay people, to make games, and so on so for these people the ultimate punishment is made by denying them our wallets, simple as that.
