Why do you enjoy classic more than retail?
My primary reasons:
-
PvP in classic is more enjoyable. It’s faster and there is no self-healing. You either kill someone in a few hits or you get killed in a few hits.
-
The class designs are better in classic. As an example: I love the gameplay style for warlocks in classic but i absolutely hate warlocks in retail. Same with other classes.
-
No flying mounts.
Classes are more distinct. In the retail game, a lot of abilities have been standardised to make it easier to build effective raids, but I liked the way old classes didn’t overlap as much. Wonky interrupt distribution in particular gave a really different flavour to PvP.
I also like not having everything decided for me. I understand the reasoning Blizzard used to pare back the talent trees, but as someone who has always hated cookie cutters, having them made mandatory seems like a poor compromise.
And finally: I like how it can be frustrating at times. The retail game seems too eager to please - or it did when I quit anyway. I haven’t been back. Having most of the elite areas removed, making sure all the quests take place close to the quest giver, accelerating the levelling process and drastically lowering the power of standard mobs didn’t make the game more fun for me, it made it hollow.

No flying. World feels bigger.
Character progression. An upgrade is an actual noticeable upgrade.
Classes have flavour. Uniqueness.
Pre-Cata zones are better.
Leveling is an experience.

And how often do you see anyone actually roleplay?
Because you get to make this thread over and over on this forum?

Sorry, but… are you upset that people in the WoW Classic forums are talking about the reasons they like WoW Classic?

I said RPG. RPG elements. Not RP.

No, I’d just rather we don’t have half the first page of the forum being the same thread over and over.
And it’s not about why he like it, but why he likes it over retail.

I have to admit, this puts the salt in my cornflakes too. I sit down with my morning coffee, open up the retail forums, and it’s polluted with Classic threads.

So, you prefer one type of mechanical tropes over others. Neither of them make either version any less or more an rpg, and really WoW never was one (even rp servers are limited to taking away the most unimmersive behaviour, ie names).
Calm down, son. We all have our opinions and preferences.
I can put it another way. I prefer Classic over Retail, because Retail is pure garbage. There ya go, see ya later.

Which is why i made this thread on the actual classic forums.

Yes… but not your own reality.
As for your bias towards retail… feel free to have it, but it’s pretty much just whining.
Ok, retail kid. Have a good day!
I can get on board with this. Grinding 1-60 on retail was a total blast, and I enjoyed taking my time, working out the routes to get to my destination. Like finding my way to Un’goro crater on my ally alt was a big journey, same with Thousand Needles.
The second I got flying I felt like I was rushing through content just because I could.

Fair enough. I don’t play retail, so I don’t read it. Much like how I don’t read the forums for other games I don’t play, and don’t bother to measure what I do play against what I don’t.
