Blizzard only deleted the characters to create FOMO before deleting them. So that people would clone “just in case”, even If they weren’t going to play them again. I actually didn’t know they were deleting them. So I don’t have any characters on Era (Except my SoM druid, and my HC characters on Hydraxian Waterlords). And the fact that I’m actively consuming classic content on a daily basis, and didn’t know about the deletion, is a good indication that the average player also didn’t know.
I have learned later that the price was cut at least twice. Was it like 5 euros per character just before deadline? That was a price I would have paid if it was the original price. But I remember it being like 30-35 euro for a clone, and that’s just insane.
Also why would you pay for it if the realms were dead?
Naturally people came back and wanted to clone once the realms popped off again.
In hindsight, blizzard made a mistake, and they know it. They could have made alot of money from cloning now.

The only reason we have WoW-Classic to begin with was that players were loud, made “mega-threads” and more.
Blizz noticed the popularity in the end, saw the cash they could get from it, and re-released Classic WoW.

I suffer in Alterac Valley right now because you people didnt have the foresight to clone.
We could have fun clashes in the middle of the map. Instead you people want to play Alterac Valley like a PvE mode for honor or reputation.
Thats the real tragedy about this whole situation.
Upright wants 2+ hour matches.
For one very simple reason - to revive them. But you waited for others to pay or level to revive the realms and missed out. And now you cry.
For sure they would have taken money if they had the data.

Some people knew that classic is forever while the expansions are game killing trash.
You followed the crowd like a sheep. you didnt wanna do anything to revive the servers, only come back with the other sheep because a streamer pointed you there.
Now you dont have your characters, i do.

I would say great, it’s back. But it isn’t, Era Cloning is gone forever, it could come back as some other type of cloning, yes, but not Era cloning.

You are mistaken, I’m not crying. I don’t mind my characters being gone. I just shed some light on why people are feeling the way they are.
I didn’t come back though, I play exclusively HC on a different realm than my old characters. I played with a guild in classic and into TBC so the move into TBC was obvious. I haven’t played wrath since before phase 2 released, and I won’t be doing so at all.
This thursday-friday night I will play the official HC realms. And enjoy myself. As you are enjoying yourself on Era realms.

Anyway throughout this thread they ask about official Blizzard statement, now we have that. I am curious what else they will ask for.
They will dodge that one easily. Let me role play a denier a second:

They will say “restore the back up”, “It’s not really gone” or “Blizzard still have the data”. Basically everything they already say.
Edit: I missed calling Blizzard “incompetent” for deleting the data.

I would also like to have it back. I didnt use it when i could and i regret it. So if they bring it back, i would love it. Even if it is fir a limited duration or a paid service.

Start leveling a similar copy. I know it will take a lot of time but Era will still be here for the foreseeable future. Even if you have very little time, eventually you will get there.
Is not the same. Do another character - trying to do same will only make you sad.
