Characters gone, get it.
In todayĀ“s day and age with the costs of long term storage solutions this seems like a joke.
A company of the size of blizzard, this is a non-issue.
I am currently playing in Firemaw-EU and let me tell you, they are not ready for the demand of players that want to play classic.
They knew if they did not bring back clones they would not have to deal with queues on servers and further complaints, so they are saving themselves another headache by just saying the ādataĀ“s goneā
Its funny how you try to send a mail between character in Wow Classic and sometimes you have to wait for 10 seconds for the mail to actually get sent.
Also quite funny how at peak hours you cant get any items for the mail because it just simply does not work.
Characters are gone really? ā¦ possibly yes but the reasoning was not the space required to store them. There is WAY more at play here.
What difference does the exact reason for discontinuation of the clone service make? I just state the fact that the clones are gone.
The difference is a lot, a lack of transparency.
Say it simply, we do not care to invest $ anymore on this game, weĀ“re all about mobile games now. You guys served your purpose with the original PC games but you are no longer the priority.
Broken systems on a 20 year old game. (i.e. mail system, bots ā¦ etc)
Bad excuses about āclones are gone due to backup sizeāā¦
I must rather get an honest answer, āweĀ“re not investing another dime here, mobile games are way more profitableāā¦ which is actually whatĀ“s at play here

We want cloning service 
you heard it blizz, give the people clone service !
I think that was only part of the reason. They advertised it as a temporary service so if people didnāt use it, shifting the blame onto blizzard is wrong. They should have used it while they had the chance, but then again it wasnāt busy at the time.
It has already been confirmed that the character data has been deleted and the service has been discontinued. Itās not coming back. And no amount of forum posts will change that. Try hardcore. After you die you will have an Era character. Even long time Classic haters are now playing hardcore and having fun.
This is just insane, Can we get a blue answer soon?
- They did not email any info of this out to me.
- They did not inform beforehand about a limited transfer/clone option.
- They did the exact opposite that probably majority of people that stopped playing would asked for. Who the hell would want their Classic character moved away from Classic? If you stop playing before TBC or WOTLK. Then it means you want to stay in Classic. Dead simple.
- Is it really that hard to activate a service that makes them money? Really?
Also, It cannot possibly be over a couple of GB of data. Its just character and item info that they would backing up. I really hope they bring this up again, i would pay for 5 character transfer / clone to the Classic Era server.

They clearly say that cloning was temporary and it will not come back.
How clear an answer do you want?

Ive seen your responses before. I will not even bother reading what you responded with. Just the fact that this thread has 471 replies so far and is something alot of people want speaks volues. It speaks volumes in the sense that they did wrong, they are not offering a service people still wants AND they still dont respond to their customers in the forums.

With Microsoft purchasing Activision Blizzard. Im hoping they read this huge thread and dig into their archives and do something that brings in some income.
Im hoping they can assess 1 developer for 10 hours to help people retrieve 1000 of days of gameplay for people and hopefully something above $10k. I know me alone i will be paying $100 to get 5 characters transfered.

Yes, with 24 individual posters of which at least one third are saying itās not coming back. So 16 that have buried their head in the soil to ignore everyone elseās replies.
I thought that wasnāt a done deal yet? Personally I think that when Microsoft take over quite a few people will lose their jobs.
Even if they bring back the serviceā¦ my character level 60 rogue from 2019 is already on WOTLK servers , untouched but its thereā¦ i dont see how they gonna make it movable to era anymore. It went there automatically cuz i quit at AQ40 and never played wow until recently. I have a mage and a priest already level 60 on era , but i dont think it possible for my rogue to get transfer from wotlk to era from technical pov.
Youāre right itās not possible. Blizzard have already said itās gone. People are just keeping this thread alive for the sake of it. If they were really that bothered about playing Era, theyād have already made new characters & be playing them.
A video was posted with the actual WoW devs in it stating all the data is gone. Yet some of you need āA BLUE POSTā? wtf?

We have already had a devās post in the blog Iāve linked many times.
Not only about clones, but in general I would not trust young tech-intoxicarted body type 2 longer that I can toss small stone.
Actually, I took an effort to collect the best gears for my character in Classic 60 I hope they find a solution to this issue

Sorry, there is no solution, the Data is gone forever or as Blizzard say āpermanently deletedā. Iām not going to post the Blog again, just scroll up to see it.
