Right back at ya. Are you HorrorPunk?
There could be a reason you did not think of, because you do not work at blizzard and thus do not have the complete picture.
Thank you for bringing up this important topic. Sadly the players that where not informed via e-mail about the expiration of cloning service lost the chance to get their characters and their wonderful backstories back.
It is nice to see players like you that actually care and putting some effort in populating ERA more. Would be nice if they use the existing tech of recovering overwritten data and bring the clone service back for you guys and girls that did not manage to make it on time.
Looking forward to see you in era!
Thatās the one thing I agree with you on, Blizzards bad communication.
They definitely could have sent the emails and saved themselves the flak they get today, but to play the devilās advocate, i donāt believe many, if any, recipients of such email would go and pay for their clone activation back then, because this was at a time when everyone believed classic era servers were dead and would stay that way.
The renewed interest in having clones activated did not come until the surge of ERA popularity at the beginning of 2023, long after the cloning service was gone. So even if they did communicate better, it would change very little in practice, IMHO.
Good thing you know so much, Vulpera Death Knight.
I literally work in this field lol.
Please bring It back.
I missed the deadline not knowing about It.
Thanks.
For another 2 years before being replaced by AI yea.
I wouldnāt be so sure about that. When you normally delete a character it probably gets the Deleted flag or a delete date so they can restore it again. However, these āclonesā were already inactive and could be activated again for a fee. Why would they set a deleted flag on something that is already semi-deleted for over a year? Leaving the clone service online isnāt costing them anything, so why keep the old data after they have to shut the service down for some reason?
Itās possible they didnāt really delete the data, but this is exactly the kind of data that you would permanently delete. There is no point in keeping every bit of data forever.
This data is not deleted. Stored and backed Up somewhere.
I canāt see why some people are denying the facts as given by Blizzard.
I not against cloning, i think they have stated they have saved that database that took em 2 dayz to backup and we all remember that that wow was shut down for 2 dayz only to store all characters, im pretty sure they can dig into this database link our accounts with that database and give us the option to clone the characters. If not they can always allow wotlk classes and races that are also available in classic era, to be dialed back to classic at lvl 60y with green gear and say 10g, and no proffs, pretty much same as the boosted package they was selling to tbc, but only under the condition u will have the character and gonna be same character cloned.
Well lets say they wanted to clone butā¦ āthey did not have the money forā how this sounds to you? Would you blame someone who lost his characters because blizzard blackmailed them for extra for cloning? Way I see it cloning should never go down, it only did to kill classic to force ppl to leave it and move on to somethin else like retail, because tbc was a totally different drink for different folks. Yet again im not against cloning they only didnt let it because they want classic dead if they had it up classic could bloom way fasterā¦ i cant see how you are happy with something that was crippling the gameā¦ Imagine if all those ppl was able to clone back how big era would be now, and would save us from 2 years dead realms and all that fake server merging that never did rly happen and season of miseryā¦
The characters were not lost tho, they naturally progressed to the next expansion along with the server they were on.
The clones are technically new characters placed on a new server. Thatās what blizzard took money for.
One way seeing this, because those guys see it that way āi logged to my classic era account, went to my realm and my character was not thereā if the term ālostā is not defined by that then how could it be xD?
Actually everyoneās characters were cloned for free, you actually had to pay to activate those clones. I think it was only a single flag that needed to be changed in the records and that was what they charged for.
Yeah, they werenāt lost, just progressed to Wrath as the actual character was progressed to TBC first.
Are they in classic era still? noā¦ so they are lostā¦ i dont care where they goneā¦ if they are not in eraā¦ is like someone taking ur children and sayingā¦ āhey they are not lost or gone, they just moved overā -.- . Again i got nothing against cloning it can only increase population they only removed cloning because they didnt want classic to get back at is feet, because they saw it as fast cash grab and then force them into the retail junk
No clones? WE RIOT
Technicality
