Return the Clone Service MEGATHREAD

The character data is now more than 2 years old and has already been deleted.

And why would they do it

Also the cost might seem negligible but it’s far more than people think.

@Creamy, Dottie: Actually, it is not even the cost that is the biggest obstacle. Backtracking without allowance for certain (major) errors is literally impossible and even allowing for those mistakes would still leave an extremely difficult task. Not to mention that in certain details Blizzard would have multiple options NONE of which would make all requesters happy.

I will just point out one area (there are actually quite a few): Mounts and pets. The data on which individual characters possessed which mounts and pets is gone. Blizzard could: A) Delete absolutely all mounts and pets. Result: Rage! Plus, this might actually be illegal. B) Give every character on an account all applicable mounts and pets on the account. Result: Rage (not to mention extremely unfair)! C) Give just one character per account all applicable mounts and pets. Which one and on what realm? Result: Only slightly less rage… D) Try a very, vevy complicated fix and assign common mounts like raptors or horses to all characters that know how to ride and rare ones to just one specific character, but again, which one and on what realm? Result: Very high likelyhood of the code not working correctly, various kinds of player rage.

And that was one of the “easy” problems…

If the character was completely untouched it may be possible with some work, but if you have logged in even once then it gets vastly more difficult.

Just copying from Wrath to Era is not easy and is much worse since they would have to check for every single TBC and Wrath item and remove it. Same goes for quests and maybe even levels.

That’s a huge cost to write and more importantly, check the code.

In my opinion it’s better to work on new features rather than on discontinued services. Blizzard doesn’t have enough resources to fix much bigger issues in classic like bots, RMT, hacking etc.
And as I wrote earlier, the data is now more than 2 years old. 2 years is a long time in a MMO so many things have changed.

They could maybe let people copy their desired character with the condition that this character was created in classic, remove talents and lvls. Reduce gold by x%. There is no fair solution. But i guess most of would be happy by just having our characters back.

Made a ticket about this just one day ago! Want my lvl 60 to be playable not idle in WOTLK  I dont play WOTLK

Reminder that this is not forgotten. It was completely unnecessary to for all practical purposes delete our characters. It was not something we should have to expect from a Blizzard game.

Here we go again.

BLIZZARD DID NOT DELETE YOUR CHARACTERS.
They are exactly where you left them: on the progression servers, just as in Vanilla. And just as you would expect them to be.

A year is nothing. Me and MANY others were gone for that long and more expecting, and fairly so, that our data would be saved for when we get back. We were unable to choose expansion or clone our characters due to that fact.

And it doesn’t matter who owns the data. What argument do you wish to make? If Blizzard deletes your character tomorrow you’d be “That’s fair, I don’t own the data”?

You claim the data is lost. Blizzard has only stated that the snapshot data is lost. Sometimes there are still ways to retrive or restore data. I know for a fact my 60 warlock sits untouched wherever it was left, it’s obviously there.

And yes, it’s BUSINESS and it’s usually good business not to crap on your customers.

No they’re deleted FOR ALL PRACTICAL PURPOSES, or are you unable to read. I did not pay for WOTLK. I was not sold WOTLK. I paid for Classic. I had no reason to expect my character would be ported to an expansion and having then in a limited time slot transfer my character onto a Classic Era realm.

Why you know what makes people angry?
Deleting their character data.

You know what makes player slightly less angry?
Actually providing the best solution you can for these players. A rank 14 character without a mount or no character at all is not a difficult choice for most. And that’s assuming you wouldn’t come up with a solution such as mount tokens allowing players to redeem whatever mount they lost on any character they choose.

Yes, this is exactly what you should have expected. This is how Vanilla was and Classic followed that path. You failing to check that, and didn’t move / clone the character while you had the chance. This failure is solely on you.

No it wasn’t. In vanilla you paid for TBC access.

Now what does that have to do with anything? You also payed for Vanilla access, which you don’t do here.

It is saved, it’s exactly where you left it. You cannot seem to fathom this.

Actually you didn’t pay for Classic, Classic TBC or Classic WotLK. All you paid for was access to Retail, every thing else was free with your subscription.

“Exactly where you left it”. I lefty toon in vanilla-classic. Not in tbc. Not in wrath, not in any other expansion-classic.

But last time i checked my toon was not in classic…. So it isnt “exactly where i left it”.

I want my toon back… and no i dont want to lvl up a new one. I want that specific toon.

They sent emails that the service would be unavailable. Well…… make it available again. There is a way to backtrack anything and everything, so lets stop pretending that “the data is lost to the abyss”.

You left it on servers that moved onto TBC then Wrath. You DID NOT make your character on Classic Era, which arrived after Classic Vanilla stopped.

You did have a free option to move it to Era but you like others did not bother to do it and are now back complaining. You had 14-15 MONTHS to move it for free.

The data is gone, no that’s not me saying it but BLIZZARD saying it. It’s been linked so many times in this thread, go look at it.

CLASSIC ERA CLONING IS NEVER COMING BACK
