I have been leveling a rogue in classic wow to raid and pvp & farm gold etc with it later. To make it my main. So i met this level 60 rogue on my server and he says that rogues are bad at level 60.
Rogues suck at making money
Rogues are boring at level 60, only 2/3 ability to use.
Pvp wise they are bad compared to hunter and mages
List is long…
So is this true?
In part, some people love them and we know love is blind.
A self healing class is always better to farm on, less downtime.
Whenever you see someone complaining about being ganked it’s always a rogue doing the ganking.
The right spec is the thing, from what I have heard, I can’t remember which one though.

Sounds like a salty Rogue :). Mention a caster class with more than 3 Burtons rofl. Mage? Nah. Lock? Nah. Plz try again. Spriest owns rogues so hard lel
The problem with rogues in classic is in 3 main points.
-to have fun as a rogue with dagger spec? you won’t be able to properly farm gold and incoming content is all about being combat sword spec! cus it will perform much much better.
-to do proper pvp? you need a talent tree, where you can’t even farm gold with it or raid with it. and there is no talent re-spec so that’s annoying.
-to raid? you will have only 2keys to press and you will feel like you’re a warrior without much keys to press! while being weaker and lacking aoe and no much options to do.
so basically rogues in 60 is all about gank and duals, however casters scale better with gear so in some weeks! that option will be limited! cus many class’s will not be kill-able by a rogue! in pvp, and in pve if all class’s have same itemlvl gear, Rogues won’t show on mater.
was it like this in vanilla? ofc NO! Rogues was only gimped after patch 1.11 cus fury warriors got massive boost in pve dps, same when certain casters got revamped! so in original vanilla you could play lvl 60 as a rogue for 2years and shine in sky, BUT in current classic? nah Rogues isn’t that useful and you shouldn’t main it Unless you don’t care about many things in this game.
I hope my reply showed you the perfect feelings! But NOTE that at wotlk Blizz started to balance class’s and made rogues awesome and during cata Rogues was far ahead on TOP in pve/pvp. 90% Of Rogues managed to get gladiator during cata and during mop Rogues was the best choice to make. but comparing all this expansions with classic? your inner Alert should show you while you’re creating a rogue!! this message “don’t play me” unless you feel pleasure in regret xD
Just wait for TBC Classic where you can reliably play every class in pretty much all types of content without being gimped or forced into one role.
So maybe i should level a mage then…;(
Play the Race and Class YOU want to play, ignore leveling guides and META race/class combinations and META Talent Builds and BiS gear.
This is an MMORPG, not a MOBA or a FPS game.
Focus on adventure, exploration, questing, get into the game, into Azeroth, this is a role playing game after all, you should enjoy it and play the class you WANT to play, instead of choosing a class depending on dps numbers and META stuff!
Unpopular opinion unless you min max, but i think anyone taking Classic seriously should roll a 60 mage. Main (best pvp and soon* pve class) or alt (best gold farming class).
I know I leveled a 60 druid and regret it now. Both goldwise (DM lasher nature immune nerf) and pve wise (min maxing means nobody recruits us as dps, even though feral numbers are good. They are not Fury good, so they are bad for raiding guilds. Shame really.
I played vanilla as Feral w/o issue. But classic is rotten to the bone with rigid meta stuff. No flexibility or place for fun and variation.
rogue is fine
like said above, unless you’re going for the absolute minmax then yeah something like a mage is better for grinding, but you’ll be competing for grind spots.
Rogues in the other hand have some pickpocket spots and BRD vault stealth runs for good money.
PvP wise, that guy you spoke obviously sucked at being a rogue. Ofc there are classes that melt rogues (spriest), but overall rogues have great dominion over the rest of the classes and they have the ability to pick their fights. For instance, you can decide when to ambush a spriest so you can still win an otherwise garentuee loss.
and rogues boring? they have such a great variaty of tools at their disposal. And we’re talking mainly pvp here cause in PvE it doesn’t matter if you kill a mob with 2, 3 or 6 different spells, it’ll go down anyway. A rogue is a cd dependant class in pvp so it takes some thinking to use them correctly, Definetly not boring.
And if we’re going the PVE route, then mage take the top spot there. They can go a entire MC run with literally using 1 spell. Maybe 2 if you count in lucifron decurse
Shadow priests, a good ones… yes a hard matchup… however , all it takes is go undead and use pve combat dagger spec. Bye. On the other hand, a very good mage is far more scarier… Yes n general Spriests are scary but so not be so cocky u cant cc a good rogue when he is prepared specifically for Spriest duel. All u can own is half cd’s unprepared randoms in bg and brag about in forums like you do.
Bro ur opener Wont do anything on me and my selfheals + Shield u Wont stand the chance to harm a good spriest with good gear ofc. And my dot Will run in u forever. If u want we can fight then.
mage rogue is a pretty even duel
Well they are for sure less boring to play than mages in pve, i have both of the classes at 60 and i can tell you that doing MC with my mage is painful lol
To make money as a rogue the best thing when u are 60 is get mining to 300 and go to silithus hives (elites mobs inside so only rogues can go there solo, and u have rich thorium veins)
each class in classic have 2 abilities and 1 “on use” or once every 30 secs.
go retail for more interesting rotations.
in general we are ok
I always loved rogues up until WoD and when Blizzard starting to do weird changes

Well tbh a good geared warr had potential to beat spriest.
