[RP PVP] Theatres of War: Ports in the Storm

A quick thank-you to the Alliance of the Ghostlands for playing fair tonight, and keeping some of their numbers back to enable an even fight.

It was an entertaining battle, with consequences for both sides, so thank you for everyone involved who helped make that happen!

The last light

The Legion watched in silence as the Alliance forces began their withdrawal from the Shalandis Isle. The Legion had been fighting for four days at this point in Ghostlands, deployed straight from Kalimdor following a campaign around the Bloodmyst Isle, to reinforce the stretched forces under the command of Lieutenant Willowheart. The soldiers watched in envy as the portals to the warmth of Stormwind opened for the retreating army, it had been months since the Legion had been home and at this rate it would be several more.

As the camp at last drained the soldiers of the Seventh, Bloody Third and wounded of Kul Tiran marines remained on the island. It was quiet, and only two fires flickered in the centre of camp, chasing away the closing shadows around them. The silence was oppressive, and morale had struck an all time low. Legionary Thodim had orders to deliver to each man, letters were to be written and placed through the portal before it shut, farewell letters to sweethearts and families, a last goodbye before the forces that remained would make their stand.

Commander Morningstar reached the isle at around midnight, stepping onto the soil orders were handed out. Morale had to be restored and the island must be made ready for the night, though the Alliance had failed in their mission, the Seventh would do whatever it took to follow their orders. Barking orders the camp was slowly brought back to life, a campfire was lit for every soldier in the camp, the illusion of numbers would have to be maintained, the soldiers were ordered to sing and play dice. Sound and light would be their ally, the Horde had to think the Alliance army was still here, even if in reality it was no more then twenty soldiers.

The officers of the Legion gathered around a small table at the edge of the camp, it was time to get to work, to prepare for the day ahead. As the plan was at last agreed on a silver lining, the Liege of Pinecrest had arrived and agreed to stand with what was left of the Alliance forces. Together this small force of soldiers would raise their blades in defiance of the odds.

Sorry for the wall of text, but with a large part of the Alliance army leaving from Ghostlands after the battle tonight, we’ve been left with a fun opportunity to RP out a very desperate situation.

Okay so alliance didn’t arbitrarily nuke themselves again like they did earlier in the campaign.

Yeah, this is happening as planned and not due to Wilcox’s bruised ego and his worg cult sperging out

Cheers to the organisers and good people keeping the battlefield engaging, we’ve had a blast with this one! I particularly enjoyed fighting through the mine (very dwarf-y), and that Forsaken mage (Skabb*?) who made our powder-keg wet with a water elemental, thwarting a potential cave-in; clever! And not least a heartfelt moment back at the camp yesterday, lighting the funeral pyre of a fallen clan-brother…

Mission Overview
With all of our troops healed, our lands secured, our supply lines strong, we’ve all the necessary equipment. It’s time for our final strike upon the Horde. From the hours of 0600 to 2000 all troops will be preparing for the Siege of Tranquillen. During this period, troops are to obfuscate that we’re preparing for the Siege, we must appear that we’re weak, to retain the Hordes endless arrogance.

Agent [REDACTED] came to me last night with plans for fully disabling their runes, and each squad is being equipped with a H.A.T.R.E.D. to stop the plague as the Horde use it. We’ve readied and prepared to overthrow the town and continue on our path to victory. Whilst the Horde have been lax expecting a secured victory for themselves without any effort due to it being their homeland, we’ve strode from victory to victory during this campaign. Pushing the Horde back and taking their lands, this gives us plenty of space to prepare our equipment, bring our cannons into place.

At 2000 hours, we’ll make out attack, starting with a strafing run from the Gnomish Air Corps upon their Dragonhawk stables, removing their ability to bring air forces to the battle. At the same time the the cannons brought from the Island to the Sanctum will fire upon the tower, attempting to bring it down. Repeated volleys to disrupt the Sin’dorei magic that the building possesses.

At 2005 hours, the Alpha and Zeta Platoons will simultaneously begin their march from the North of Tranquillen. Where they’re least likely to expect an assault, from the side of Silvermoon. With their tower, Dragonhawk’s and runes disabled, and countermeasures to their plague prepared, we expect an easy victory. The Horde have repeatedly fallen before the might of the Alliance, retention of air dominance will allow us victory over the Horde this day.

There is no instance of a nation benefiting from prolonged warfare
We cannot continue to hold out like this, each day we continue to perform well, but it can only be so long before more of the Hordes armies arrive. Securing the town will establish us the most powerful point within the Ghostland, with the Island under out control as well we’ll have won without engaging in an extended conflict in these lands. There cannot be a retreat today, only victory.

Build your opponent a golden bridge to retreat across
Leaving the route to the South as the only way the Horde can flee is vital for this attack to work. Cutting off their forces from Silvermoon and engaging a complete disruption of supply to the armies in the Eastern Plaguelands. From there we will push south in the coming days, to crush the Horde and supply aid and troops to the Rangers.

Designated Radio Operator
Ensure at all times Sergeants, Corporals and Lance Corporals only have a Radio that links back to the Island. Thus that they can report in and receive additional reinforcements as required.

Codeword
Upon a new day a new code word is assigned for the Company. So we can ensure that we don’t have anyone in our region that shouldn’t be there.
The codeword is Tranquility.

After Action Report: Eversong Wine
ALPHA AND ZETA PLATOONS

Report Overview
Everything was prepared and our troops readied for the assault upon Tranquillien and to take the territories back from the Horde. Although due to logistical lapses, the troops were delayed in getting the initial assault underway. Forty minutes delayed we began our assault upon the town. The Horde having seen us mustering canons and our copters during this time charged down to meet us. Removing access of being able to meet them within the town where we’d initially planned.

The Horde had their forces bolstered, and fought fiercely to defend their town, although our strafing runs upon the Dragonhawk stable was successful, with their spire taking significant damage by our canons. Despite this we were pushed back, whether reinforcements finally arrived from Silvermoon or not, the High Home defenders were able to overrun our forces. Pushed back to the Island, which still had it’s crippled defences from the day before. We were left outnumbered, with few troops able to even keep to their own feet. Let alone raise a weapon.

Delays in our assault upon Tranquillien gave the Horde time to reinforce and strike back harder than we’d initially given plans for. Evacuation orders were given to remove all the injured, leaving only the insane or unwounded to hold the ground as best as available for the South.

Sustained wounds and injuries
23 CAT 3 injuries, 11 CAT 2 injuries, 3 CAT 1 injuries. Those that are most critically wounded were brought through the portal to Ironforge first, brought to infirmaries with hopes to get them recovered to service as soon as possible.

Mission Development
Mission failed, we couldn’t repair the Port after the Horde’s superweapon brought ruin to our island, delaying all of our planning. From there we were able to hold back the Hordes remaining forces in Tranquillien, but unable to utilise our advantage before the Hordes armies had reinforced their lands. We only hope the damage we’ve done to their town and delays in their logistical networks has bought enough time for the south to be successful.

After Report thoughts
The order to retreat came with a heavy heart, but we couldn’t hold the Island with so few capable of even getting back to their feet. The Island was always a suicide mission, one we needed constant reinforcements for. Should the Horde have attacked the Island, without our barriers, the canons destroyed and only one gyrocopter left whilst our troops were all wounded we’d have lost everyone to the man.

Better to live and fight another day then to have the wounded all die off.

Thus my final report is up!

Hope to be able to do something again soon, although I think for now I’m going to rest and let my guild patch up their wounds after a week of getting thrashed by the Horde.

Something something 5k spent in repair bills this week.
