Rules for Official Classic Hardcore Realms

So far we only know one rule for the up-coming Classic Hardcore servers… Death is permanent! And to be honest that is all that really matters, or at least that’s the important one.

For many players getting half way to level cap without dying can quite the challenge, let alone all the other rules that come with the Hardcore challenge. Some of these self imposed rules I’m not particularly fond of. For example only doing a dungeon once… Is this really testing game knowledge?! How many of you managed to collect all “Red Wool Bandanas” in one run through of the Stormwind Stockades to complete the quest? How many of you got all the “Twilight Pendants” in a single clear of Blackfathom Deeps?

When it comes to additional rules on the official Classic Hardcore realms I believe simplicity is key. Something that everybody can easily understand & get behind. Also the rules should support different approaches & multiple playstyles, after all this is MMO.

Here are a couple rule suggestions that I think could work well on official Classic Hardcore realms. These rules could be baked into the actual sever so that you don’t need to rely a third party addon.

  • Auction House & Trading - LOCKED on all characters, but can be unlocked upon reaching level cap. Only level 60 characters can use the auction house or trade with other level 60 characters.
((Just an idea - Reaching level 40 or 50 unlocks access to neutral auction houses, in Booty Bay & Tanaris for example.))

  • Grouping - Players can only group with other players within a 5 level range, high/lower. For example: at level 25 you can only group with other players between level 20 & level 30… If there is a level 22 in the group then the highest level member of the group could not exceed level 27. This allows for grouping but should still stop boosting.

I feel these two rules, along with the core rule death is permanent would be a great experience.

What additional rules, if any, do you think should be implement on the official Classic Hardcore realms?

Took 5 minutes of waiting for respawns after last boss for everyone to get these Qs done. Easily fixable by increasing drop chance.

I personally am in favor for limiting dungeon runs to 1 until lvl 60 because else boosters reign supreme and dungeon aoe pull spamming is not a challenge at all.

This would be the most important rule after not dying, else we get boosters and gold sellers flooding the servers again and nobody wants that.

“Solo self-found” is not the only way to play Hardcore.

I think this will be the only rule, everything else will be optional.

wow as a game in itself is not designed for a hardcore mode. additional rules are needed so that 60 is an actuall accomplishement.
if there is no dungeon lockout for example there will be plenty of people who will race to 60 comfortably spamming dungeons in a premade, similar to how most streamers lvled in 19.

The basic idea of HC is to make leveling challenging. If you can trade as you level or run the same dungeon multiple times your toon will be full green/blue geared + uber enchanted in no time and leveling without dying will be super easy.

Is why OG IronMan has No dungeon, No gear better than white as rules.

Right… And solo grinding green mobs all the way to level cap could also be considered “super easy”… Laborious, but easy.

Dungeons come with additional risk… It only takes a bad pull, a resisted CC, a tank &/or healer to disconnect at the wrong time to jeopardise the whole group. By participating in group content your are putting your characters survival in the hands of others to some extent.

As for being uber geared & enchanted, or twinked out so to speak. On an official Classic Hardcore realm this wont necessarily be the case, or at least not in the beginning… After all it would be a fresh server, everyone starting from scratch. There will be no goods or items in game that have not been obtained outside of hardcore constraints.

If a player has already managed to hit level cap & then wants to spend hours or do risky activates to farm gold to buy bags & items to deck out another character they want to level… let them do it. They could die on their main whilst farming gold. Or they could get over confidant on their twinked out character & still die, wasting all that time & money.

I’m not against sending mail to your own characters on an official Classic Hardcore realm.

Well I am against. Bags, even a good white weapon can do bugger difference on low level. And it takes away fun. Happines over a 6 slot bag, gloat over that bow dropped etc.

I saw a chat between some top streamers (not that I rate their opinions any more or less than anyone elses) and they put forward some good ideas regarding level restrictions similar to your own.

I think if they just leave it as - the only rule is die = permadeath - which I’m almost 100% confident they will, the servers will quickly become soiled.

Hopefully the HC-addon designers will add a way for users to easily recognise who else is using the addon.

If you use the addon and inspect another player you will see a hc tab and you can there also see if his status is passed. If it says fail then you dont group with them.

HC core rule is not to die. Anything else is bonus. People can do HC with mooncloth bags, crusader white weapon and full on WB. The HC realms are unlikely to force most of the optional rules set by the addon. At best you will have to pick one of few HC options. From plain “don’t die” to solo-self-found.

Also 99% that really has to start with all boosts possible are unlikely to last till 20

So when you reach level 40 you can trade through BB’s AH?
Then why you forbid trading until level 60?

It do not stops boosting, it only makes it more difficult.
A group of 3 mages and a priest, all level 45, will take me through SM dungeons at my level 40, just afking at the entance.

dungeons for capable players are ez. on top of that its also the fastest way of lvling on release when the world is very populated.

spamming dungeons or funnel gear onto alts/friends/guildMembers aint HC and shouldnt be allowed.

or a meteorit could hit their house and cause a dc. but ye doenst mean their shouldnt be rules that make a legitimate HC server.

You can just as easily say grinding green mobs to 60 is easy and should therefore be against the rules?

Tbh you people are way overexxagerting. Im looking forward to a unique fresh server with HC experience.

its is ye but theres a downside to that. its takes ages.
spamming dungeons is too ez to also be the fastest way to lvl and there should be a lockout rule. this shall be HC and not like normal 19 release again.

I mean yeah but its still easy. If you wanna be as fast as possible I think dungeon farming can be quite dangerous.

Great, that’ll be helpful when on the fresh servers.

Any reason why trading is forbidden?

I understand trading items and recipes/gold but I would like to trade mats with mats.

Like ores for silk cloth.

This is allowed right?

These rules were put in place because the server isnt HC. so it would be too easy to cheat with trades and stuff.

But personally on a fresh HC server i think its gonna be so fun with an open economy.
