Season of Discovery Class Tuning - 11 January

I answered it right here:

Everyone goes best spec, but it’s nice when there is a close second viable alternative within a class that is not a meme. Balancing is not only between classes, but within a class to give more viable options.

If that’s not the answer - clarify the question, I am not a mind reader - make yourself clear.

Can’t even make it up :joy:

You really can’t. Not only is the gearing for Enha horrid. Mostly BoE and the few things that are good from the raid is “meh”. Everything lacks str and we gain nothing, except critt, from aggi.

Imagine spending 200g on gear that makes you do less dps than a hunter pet. Feels great!

I am sorry Blizzard but for now you forcing hunter do not use BM rune, the problem is agro of our pets it will not work with the chimera or other staff, only with bm.

One chimera shot instantly break agro from pet, how to play this in solo?

If a hunter lets a shaman get close enough to hit him, that’s a pretty bad hunter. Granted that is a lot of the hunters, and mages for that matter. Shamans are completely helpless against any player of these two classes with more than a couple of braincell.s

Outdoor pvp + ghost wolf = no tracking on mini map.
It’s extremely simple to rush a hunter without him seeing it or too late, as soon as you are within frost shock range it’s over.

Concerning the mage yes, it is already more complicated, but not impossible.

But the hunter, sorry, he no longer dominates much in PvP (no more in pve), you have to be wary of him but there are clearly stronger, rogue, paladin, druid to name a few. Well playing mage also can be clearly good in pvp.

People are 6-8 manning BFD and easily clearing so I don’t know what you’re talking about. Even if the 20% will be so major, just might have to do it as 10man with more heals. Super easy.

Well. you’re not wrong. But let’s not forget the backpeddaling + wingclip that hunters can do, which makes them move slightly faster than you.

Yeah they’re awful, thanks.

Fact of the matter is that even with 10% less damage and 30& less focus regen BM is still a passive ability that just enhances our DPS and allows us proper aggro.

Chimera Shot costs mana which means that we’ll OOM faster and Explosive Shot is… What MM would pick it over Aimed Shot? You can only use one of them at a time, who would go for the weak 28-34x3 damage aoe over Aimed Shot?

So basically, nothing has changed in my eyes. I will still be using BM as an MM except now I’m nerfed. Thanks, Blizz.

Honestly, if I don’t see a proper buff next week then I’m just swapping to another class because it’s clear that you lot over at the SoD team have no clue what you’re going to do with Hunters. Everything about their rune design is complete dog. And it took you how long to revisit Explosive and Chimera after you nerfed them? 1 and a half month or something? And this is all you could do? Weak buffs that still pale in comparison to BM even after it got nerfed as well?

Not because of FOTM, no I main Hunter every time with WoW. But what is the point in playing the same hunter as before with no new bells and whistles that offer new styles of play when the one thing we are good at (dps) keep getting butchered because of a bunch of QQ’s in PVP?

This update is fecal matter and not good enough.

I fully understand the frustrations players have against hunters and hunter pets. Hunter’s themselves however are in a pretty bad spot, but I’m expecting the phase 2 runes to amend most of the DPS concerns. Still, I’d love to see some changes to the current runes we’ve already got, and their bleak outlook for the future, and a possible fix.

Sniper Training only affecting shot-skills - rework it a little to give the following:
“After hitting an enemy with Aimed Shot, gain “Sniper’s Aim”, increasing your Auto Shot, Chimera Shot, Explosive Shot and Aimed Shot damage by 10% for 10 seconds.”

Chest rune slots in general compete with Heart of the Lion making all other options basically an impossible pick for (Horde) hunters right now. With how weak the leg rune slot currently is, swapping positions with (for example) Kill Command would be huge.

  • Lone Wolf’s damage bonus is too low to be competitive at the moment. This may require nerfing again in the future, but it needs more currently.

  • Cobra Strikes will never offset the loss of Heart of the Wild. Again, only functions off shot abilities, and with the nerfs to focus regen for pets, they might not even be able to get the maximum benefit;
“Your ranged critical hits restore 15 Focus for your pet. Additionally, their next 3 special attacks are guaranteed critical hits.”

  • Kill Command only working on 2 of the pet skills is just an insult. Fix it.

  • Serpent Spread isn’t working with Chimera Shot currently. It also wouldn’t be too crazy to just make the Serpent Sting last for the full 15 second duration instead.

  • Flanking Strike is fine, albeit awkward to use. A lower CD with slightly reduced damage would make melee probably feel less sluggish?

  • Beast Mastery, a passive skill on an active slot… Should maybe be swapped with Kill Command? Active abilities seem common on the glove slot. Would also solve the useless leg slot we currently have.

  • Chimera Shot - got buffed, not sure if it’s enough. The serpent sting damage portion can miss independantly of the shot itself hitting. Awkward.

  • Explosive Shot - got gutted and turned into an AoE rune. It was too strong before, but an armor-ignoring shot on a short CD was amazing to play with. Felt great while levelling. Now it’s basically unusable on bossfights.

Scaling from talents:

  • Why not make Chimera Shot scale from marksman talents? Barrage (5/10/15% Multi-Shot/Volley damage) would make a perfectly logical fit for it.) Same goes for Improved Serpent Sting. Horrible talent otherwise, since it currently does not scale off rATP.

  • Same goes for Explosive Shot - Why not make it scale off “Clever Traps” in the survival tree? 30% bonus damage for it seems like it would make it a lot more viable.

  • Untested but maybe someone else can confirm - Improved Arcane Shot? Does it give any benefit to Explosive or Chimera right now? Explosive says it’s CD is shared with Arcane?

so when are we decreasing the range on quick draw and between the eyes to a more reasonable range, 20y seems kinda loads for rogues.

You never really gave any answer imo what different reasons it can be.

You’re not wrong. But if a hunter engages you from range it’s basically over before it started. Kiting is the rock to the shaman scissor.

Pets are absurd but in reality even with this tuning most non-bis are going to still be BM till they sort their gear just with cats, raptors or something else instead - which most will have in stable already

Not differentiating output in pve/pvp environment is a mistake though

On that note why exactly are rogue’s given ranged abilities but they don’t have a deadzone? Why does the ranged class get a deadzone but the non-ranged class does not?

I’m so confused. The amount of hunter comments here stating that “hunters are in a pretty awful spot” , or that “they don’t do any damage” is riddiculous. You recieved 3 nerfs and now you are STILL one of the best PvP classes and top 3 dps class in the raid. In most of the raids even, you are top dps, because I doubt in all of your raids warriors are getting 80 rage before pulling a boss.

Not to mention hunters are the most played class right now (according to ironforge) purely because its one of the best classes right now, and people nowadays are (sorry for my words) “class wh*res” and play only what’s best in each patch.

I completely understand shamans complaining, boomkins complaining about DPS in raids, shadow priests, but hunters ?? Stop it already, its riddiculous.

The problem is that Hunters is a pure DPS class and we’re getting nerfed in PVE DPS because of a bunch of whining in PVP.
The second problem is that the rune selection is just not interesting and we’re practically corralled into picking the same ones regardless of the spec we’re running.

I would gladly drop down to middling DPS if the rune selection gave me super interesting utility abilities that made Hunters play genuinely different. But no all we got is good DPS, middling dps and bad dps so which plate of DPS do you want for supper? I think I’ll have the good DPS thank you.

Our rune selection is trash and instead of getting our runes reworked or buffed to an equitable degree with the other ones (not OP) all we get is constant nerfs.

Is it any surprise Hunters get frustrated with that?

It’s not about doing all the DPS in the world, it’s that they can’t even give us a puny little “buff” without it also coming with another nerf.

(As I’ve said before I think that BM should be a tanking rune and not a DPS rune so I’d be all in favor of giving it -20% damage instead of +30% so long as threat is improved greatly and Growl is AOE in 5 yards. I want the opposite of DPS for it. I just want SoD to live up to its promise of offering us something new/different.)

Average class in pvp, far from being the best. And explain to me why the 3rd or soon 4th class in terms of pve dps should make it the nerf target?

How can classes like rogue who are both ahead in pvp and pve compared to the hunter not be entitled to the same treatment?

The WoW community is truly becoming the most toxic, much more than the LoL community and that’s no small feat.

So after these changes we are still top 3 dps classes in raids? Hunters dident need a nerf for PvE.

This just proves that you haven’t played anything else but hunter in PvP, and you’re thinking that if you’re not the best, that your class is average, almost garbage.

Obviously you didn’t get only “nerfed” , or am I blind ? The fact that you got a nerf to one rune, and compensated in buffing 3 more just shows that this is not the intended gameplay that Blizzard wanted. You got 25% dmg increase to a rune ? The fact that the gameplay you wanted to do is click pet attack and stay afk and be top dps is not what Blizzard were intending is not their problem.

I said that in my last comment - hunters are the most played class right now, so you’re getting targeted a lot. Rogues’ time will come as well.

Yes. You are still top 3 dps class in the raid atm.

The 25% damage increase to Explosive Shot?
Yeah in reality that meant +4 damage.
