Hi forum, i decided to create a pala and i always wanted to make a shockadin. Maybe you can help me to find good info about this spec. And what do you think about this hybrid in PVP?
It used to be good because of its burst damage while being a resilient healer. I’m afraid that in a BG environment with the current game knowledge ppl will counter you rather easily.
i kill ppl in world pvp all the time as shocadin, all melee is food, hunters/shamans/mages are problem tho. if u are solo and 1vs1 in particular
u can kill hunters if u use engi consumes but a shaman for example is almost impossible, all the bugs that affect both classes are all in their favor
Plus any Shaman worth its name knows that Purge spam leaves Paladins with nothing (no seals, no blessings no Divine Favor).
As a Shadowpriest I can say I love dispelling a paladin right before he tries to melee me. Auto-hits versus my shield usually doesn’t work well for them.
It’s okay u can play as a full on healer with a burst window when holy shock is up or u can go 2hander with soc with less survival.
You destroy warriors,rogues
Stalemate with hunters or you kill them they dont do enough damage to kill you but they can kite you forever
Shadowpriest, warlocks, ele shamans will destroy you healing priest as well if they spec into mana burn.
Mages can go either way depending on gear difference you win this matchup in most cases unless they catch u low hp full counterspell or they sheep you and run away.
Enchantment shamans if they are lucky with multiple wf procs they can kill you otherwise you win even with purge spamming.
Druids it’s pretty much a stalemate you can’t kill a good shape shifting druid and they can’t kill you as well.
Getting purged isn’t that bad. It’s still a global cooldown and it costs mana too. As a paladin you can work with rank1 SoC or rank3 SoR so it doesn’t cost that much mana and it can be applied just before the weapon swing. Purging ret paladins is a lot more effective than purging holy palas because they have a lot less mana and they try to be offensive all the time…
Ele shamis have a chance if they manage to burst the paladin down from 100 to 0 but if they are constantly purging they don’t deal any damage as well. Eleshamis go oom way quicker than a holy paladin and if the paladin manages to dodge some earthshocks he can just heal himself endlessly.
Priests are more problemaitc just because they can manaburn. Shadowpriests that try to kill the paladin by damage and without manaburn will just go oom…
Hunters that try to manaburn the paladin just go oom themselves before the paladin is oom.
Mages are also pretty lame because they just sheep and run away all the time they think they might gonna lose…
Resistance gear combined with auras can also help a lot vs casters - caster are more difficult to deal with for paladins but melees are pretty easy.
Also this game isn’t just about 1v1. Paladins are very good supporters. I personally think they are very good with a hunter.
Shockadin need near perfect gear and even with this gear he does damage as shaman in green.
They more potent in TBC tho’
Shockadin is basically a holy paladin --> a very good healer. I mean paladins aren’t really known for their damage anyway. The difference between a healer and spelldmg paladin comes just from the gear. Collect two different item sets, one for healing (pve/raiding gear) and one with spelldmg (solo/pvp gear).
There are a few things that scale with spelldmg - if it would just be for holy shock it might not be worth it because it has such a long cooldown. A paladin can use spelldmg gear even without talenting into holy shock:
SoR rank3 scales with spelldmg more than any other rank of SoR. If you have around 200 spelldmg, rank3 does the same dmg than max rank. If you have even more spelldmg, SoR rank3 will do more dps than max rank (and it costs a lot less mana).
Flury axe (lvl42 epic world drop) is also one of the best weapons in the game for spelldmg paladins because of the fast attack speed and the proc chance for an extra attack. It doesn’t matter how much dmg the weapon itself does, it just needs to be super fast - the main dmg comes form SoR rank3,
Also the skullflame shield and the ancient hakkari manslayer have procc effects that scale almost 1:1 with spelldmg.
Add some dragon breath chilli on top of it and suddenly it makes a lot of sense to stack spellpower on a paladin.
The dps can be quite good for a healer (most likely more than a shaman in greens lol) and you can also have a burst dmg with shock and judgement.
There is another special weapon (Flamewrath) in the game that is basically only usable for paladins because the proc scales with spelldmg.
(if you want to see this stuff in action you might want to check out the youtube channel from the 3rd post of this thread).
This even helped a veteran who needed a refresh. Ty
Literally 0 effect versus a good paladin, you just reseal just as you hit if you see someone dispel/purge spamming you.
Also seal/judge macro makes it so you can always get a judgement off.
Finally if your ret your going to want to use R1 seal of command most times against dispellers and to conserve mana unless you go for the HoJ > Judgement
Shadow Priests are tough but with SR Aura and Shadow reflector a mind blast you can pull out a win occasionally. Easier as full Ret though rather than Ret Reck as SP’s are mainly DoT damage.
flamewrath is absolutely broken and will auto win u the fight vs a melee if u get a proc and he doenst know what it does. with my current gear and hakarri manslayer instead of mageblade its 400 dmg return per hit, up to 700+ with mageblade and zg trink
m8 i actually just tested my shocadin dps in aq 20, using flamewraith as my wep and 5 piece t2, 2 piece pvp set, i was doing 300 dps at moam, so u can even outdps a bad mage/hunter if they are clueless
A “shockadin” isn’t really possible until TBC. It’s got a short range it doesn’t hit very hard, has a long cooldown, all of your other damage is very low, the gear to get any significant amount of spell damage will be extremely difficult.
Those videos are highlights where the paladin is going up against players who don’t know what they are doing and is using two trinkets with one of them crit’ing every time saw. I didn’t watch the whole video and stopped once I saw the warlock not dotting the paladin up or draining their mana especially when they were stunned.
That’s not accurate. A “shockadin” in cloth will get ruined by warriors and Rogues. All a warrior has to do is hamstring, run away and charge/stun until the paladin has run out of mana. A rogue will just stun lock the paladin until either the paladin is dead if they get close to dying they will just vanish and run away.
Only if they don’t know how to play
Mages will win every time unless they don’t know how to play. A paladin can’t catch up with a mage if they blink just once.
No way unless the Shaman has no idea how to play. Frost shock, earth shock, chain lightning and windfury are all way more powerful individually than all of paladins ability’s together except for the random and lucky SOC proc that crits.
You can apply that sentence to any pvp wow video on Youtube tbh
You should not wear cloth, you must wear Judgement set + Lokamir with spd shield
Have you checked that by himself?
I tested SoR with edward the odd (bretty fast mace too) and the damage still sucked
On Bgs, burst dmg prevails over sustainable damage and I ended up using the SoC Judgement + stun combo even with 1-hander
I agree that burst dmg is better for bg’s because you rarely get into long 1v1 fights because most of the time other players join the fights and you simply need to kill players fast.
Open world pvp or dueling is a different story tho. You don’t need to burst your enemy down quickly, you can also slowly whittle them down while they don’t have much of a chance. It’s a more defensive play style because most players who don’t want to fight you can try to run away.
It makes sense to use SoC for the full burst combo but in that sense you only want it for the judgement. If you just want to auto-attack then SoR rank3 should be better than SoC with onehand weapon and shield. Standard use SoR and once you go for the combo use SoC, trinkets, stun, judgement, holy shock pew pew. Ideally you put judgement of crusader on the target first.
I tested most weapons myself except edward the odd because i don’t like the procc so much but that’s personal taste. If you don’t have enough spellpower then the dmg of SoR rank3 will not be great. While SoR is active you also have higher chance to get a weapon proc (x2). I can’t prove that but from my experience i think it’s true because procs happen a lot. Ancient Hakkary manslayer has an insane proc but the lvl42 flury axe has slightly higher dps.
Mug o hurt is another lvl42 blue weapon with fast attack speed and a proc that has a slow effect. With the icy chill enchant you have another chance to proc a slow effect and you could even add frost oil on top of it. With a bit of luck you can permanently slow enemy players with this weapon. The great thing is that druids can’t even shift out of this slow effect.
