So what’s the point of Player Housing?

Exactly

Midnight housing is like your mount menu, but in 3d

The goal is for blizzard to sell us housing items in the store to increase their income. Simple as that.

Alright, i think i need to reply to some of these posts because some people are showing their own frustration with the player base that are hating on player housing, and its not the case with my original post.

(i’m 38) In all my life i have only played the following games: W3, WoW, Diablo2, Diablo3, Diablo4, Heroes3, Age of Empires, Scions of Fate and Solitaire (and now D&D). And i am not a hardcore player, i’m super casual. I’m NOT going for the M+ self-flagellation (and yes, that’s what M+ feels like for me) rankings or Mythic raiding. I do all the quests, try to get the achievements, try to farm old content for trasmog, farming pets and mounts.

Player housing is completely new for me and to be honest it feels off. I could be wrong. Maybe the moment i try it, it will be the coolest thing since 2005. I never played a game that had player housing. Why would i design a game house (that is not even mine..blizz can take it any moment they wish) when i could design my own real house in the real world? ..hence why i don’t see the point to it. I will try it because it the “new” big thing Blizz has to offer, but..

Why the “hate” on player housing and not let’s say transmogs, or pets or mounts? ..because transmogs, pets mounts are with you wherever you go. You just open the pet/mount/toy window select what you want and summon it wherever you are in the world. With player housing i doubt you can “summon” your house wherever you are in the world, you will have to hearthstone there. So it removes you from whatever you were doing. Does it makes sense?

The other “hate” on player housing is that the next expansion (Midnight) feels like a major patch rather then an actual expansion, and yes player housing takes the brunt of it because it feels like it took away man-power from making the expansion something bigger and better.
Think about it, remove player housing, and you get the following:
-redesigned existing maps with new quests
-“half-a-class” with the new DH spec
-new allied race
(prey, ui improvements, class fixes are not even worth mentioning)

So you don’t get a new class, no redesign to support classes, no new race with new bone structure (its the same mount with new colors.. who cares). Only new quests in redesigned existing zones. It honestly DOES feel like a major patch then a new expansion.

Recently i have been playing D&D, and i fell in love with the Bard class. It feels like me, like that class is an extension of myself. I don’t have that in WoW. All the existing classes don’t feel like an extension of myself when i play them. Yes, they look cool, with cool animations, but its just not “me”. I can’t bond with it, and i feel like with the Bard class it would be different.

I did talk with older players who play the same character since 2005, they say that their character is like an extension of themselves. If that character would be deleted it would feel like something got removed from their soul. I wish to have that as well, and i have a feeling that the Bard class would be the one for me. I have tried every other class but there was always something missing..

However, in the next expansion, there is no Bard class, even though almost every expansion teases me with either items (harps from shadowlands), NPC’s that sing (legion rogue order-hall), ..and yes, even in midnight you have an entire dungeon with the Windrunner brother that was a singer, aka a bard. And there was a Sylvanas datamined image having a harp in her hands…so yes, the Bard class is teased ..and it hurts not to play it. And it feels like player housing has stolen the man-power from the expansion for this to happen.

That’s all.
Have a great day!

While that may ‘feel’ like that; it’s not the case.
The people that are working on housing would not be working on the WoW team if not for housing. There is no loss when it comes to other content ‘because of housing’.

I mean… I’m not going to tell you how to ‘feel’.
I can only share my viewpoint, and to me Midnight feels like an expansion.
It does ‘feel’ a little different; but for me that’s because of the World Soul Saga and the way they’re continuing this one big storyline.

And now I’m roleplaying someone flagging a reply.

So, a summary…

The player housing is apparently coming and we know very little considering it’s supposed to be an evergreen feature. Will it succeed in this? We don’t know.

Will it eventually have an access to bank and crafting? We don’t know.

Will it have a price tag in Euros in some for or another? Definitely. The big question remains; are we expected to buy actual player advantage like bank and crafting with real life currency? Again, we don’t know. So far devs have said this will not happen, the housing will not give an advantage but… what is an advantage anyway? For those who concentrate solely on cosmetics even them being in cash shop is pay-to-win.

Will players like the idea of housing? Some will, some will not, debating here will not change that. Debating in the Internet never changes anything, people just dig deeper in their trenches. One could argue that it’d be better to first see how a new feature works before deciding if it’s good or bad. Alpha or PTR do not count, they are for testing purposes and prove absolutely nothing of the final retail version. I know, I was testing Shadowlands.

Will the actual housing plot have an affordable price? We don’t know that either, in Alpha at least it was 1K but that naturally proves nothing.

Can I have the exact plot I want and if it’s taken, will a new instance appear immediatelly? Again, we don’t know.

Hearthsteel? About that we know absolutely nothing for sure, speculation is totally pointless. While the devs say the system is “player-first, not revenue-first”, there is some doubt in people’s minds whether players and devs agree on what exactly is “player-first”.

And finally… the dance studio. So keep in mind nothing is real until you see and experience it. And admit you don’t really know anything yet.

I’m not expecting it but I agree, other peoples creativity has lead to some visual eyesore. I definitely want some outer plot somewhere away from anyone else.

In most games with solo housing you can tour other people’s solo plots (if they choose to let people in ofc) and some people do beautiful things and others have stuff that isnt your taste or just off the wall but it doesnt matter because no one else has to overlook it.

The dude just makes stuff up about others, it’s just all inaccurate claims. And don’t get me started on the out of context over quoting  . I stopped replying very quickly to that one. It was clear they are just out to troll.

To have fun!!!

I’m also surprised anyone is struggling to find out info about housing. There is so much out there.

With Alpha testing, the housing test they did on PTR, the upcoming beta and a wealth of content out there to peruse from various creators.

Don’t worry!

HS to city and there is bound to be a HS to your house!
Just HS between the 2! No need to travel or fly anywhere, anymore!!

I must agree and I think you are being generous with the 2 year mark until people will stop speaking about it.

Its going to be a few months at max, because player housing implies people to remain stationary in a small area, not participating in any aspects that makes WoW a fun game.

I don’t really care about player housing, as you said, when my raid or m+ run will be over, I will alt f4 as I always did in WoW and I never thought “oh …it would be lovely if I had a house to go to and sit on a chair before disconnecting”

I think player housing will affect the game, because don’t be fooled, for Blizzard …player housing is just a means to grab more cash. Oh, you want that UNIQUE lamp ? Get it NOW or ELSE……

And they put so much working power into it , that we going to get the usual rushed and buggy expansion

Yes it will be even for new players with a fresh level 10 Toon possible to buy a house plot.

Actually, housing has its own tab and in the top of that screen is a ‘teleport to home’ button. So no need for extra HS-ing.

Three hearthstones is enough!

Who needs a hearthstone, when I’ll be there most of the time anyway!
