Having tried and tested this, will just add my 2c.
I love the addon, it provides a comfortable and worry free play style whilst out and about -but I’m also sure that it removes from the world too -as you’re no longer looking over your shoulder.
Can’t have both elements to the game (barr PVE realms) so yes I side on this needing to be disabled. It directly changes your playstyle in my opinion by too much of a degree (and for me Rogues are my least favourite class).
Any addon changes your play style.
Thank you for pointing this out, however I’m just expressing that this one changes the wrong elements by quite a large margin.
I suggest you try it before posting about things you know nothing about… you’re making yourself more ridiculous in each new post full of ignorance.
As has been pointed out earlier, you can get the same info by customizing your combat log.
The only thing Spy does that you can’t do otherwise is make it more practical (like pretty much all addons), give the option of sound alerts, track your W/L ratio, and let you make KoS/No Kill lists.

Nope I do not use that addon. But I’m software engineer, and I understand what it really can do, unlike you and your tinfoil hat.
The addons broken imo but I am using it cos it makes avoiding being ganked far, far easier as well as having a KoS.

What I can say is I am far more safe. Legitimately. If I don’t want to engage combat with someone, if they show up in my Spy I am at a much higher chance of avoiding it than otherwise.
I do not need to use track humanoid, it’s become a far rarer ability.
Walking into blackrock mountain and instantly knowing if there is a large group outside of MC or UBRS makes it so I should never accidentally get killed by that. At the very least there is no chance I would be unprepared.
I’ve saved an entire guild into my KOS list because of two annoying players. Hundreds of innocents have suffered.
How did you make the KoS work? Are you a senior software engineer?
I had ran past around 30 of them coincidentally, and then it triggered enough that I would for sure remember that guild even if they were not saved.
I think if 1 in guild is KoS, spy will tell you if any from that guild are near.
Oh well I didn’t know you could actually auto put a whole guild into KOS, I just decided to do so on my own lol
The Spy AddOn is fine. Here’s why:
If you don’t want to use the AddOn, simply don’t use it. You have that power. What you don’t have, however, is the power to decide for the rest of us.

What’s up with this “doing it manually” argument? You can’t do manually most of the things addons do, otherwise we wouldn’t need addons in the first place.
You can’t manually have an instant access to all the quest info Questie provides.
You can’t manually switch between gear sets in one second, which Itemrack allows you to do.

So once again, if you’re trying to make a point about Spy being bad because it lets you do things faster than you would manually, you’re setting yourself up to look stupid in these arguments.
I’m cackling irl you guys are beyond any hope rofl. If you had bothered to read the rest of the thread you would have seen those people poorly attempting to defend this addon because “it just highlights to the user some information which is already in the game :((”. Well except for that the very e͟x͟a͟c͟t͟ s͟a͟m͟e kind of feature was banned by Blizzard; latest example being the LFG addon made by Icy-veins specifically for Classic which also JUST HIGHLIGHTED LFG MESSAGES FOR A SPECIFIC DUNGEON TO THE USER, and yet got plenty of people nerdraging at it (and wouldn’t definitely be surprised if you were two of those).
Please show some coherence before bothering to talk again in a forum. Bring your irl frustration elsewhere.
EDIT: oh and btw, very solid arguments there with “people been using similiar addons for 15 years”, because people have literally also been using LFG addons for the whole vanilla. Seriously, please show yourself out.
