Spy addon could easily ruin world PvP for classic

Questie doens’t meet the same criteria though, that’s the thing.

Questie doesn’t affect anything competitive in this game, Spy does.

You can’t manually parse the combat log the same way that the Spy addon does, because your brain and eyes simply aren’t fast enough to collect information and execute actions depending on the information collected. You need to be able to read 50+ lines per second for that. Never gonna happen.

You make arguments in favor of keeping the Spy addon but fail hard to make valid arguments. The only thing you’ve been doing is making excuses to keep the addon alive.

Any addon that has a negative impact on PVP and forces the majority to use it, is an addon that needs to have its functionalities severely limited.

No. It has nothing to do with ignorance. It has everything to do with wanting the PVP aspect of the game to be competitive and fun, for everyone. Spy addon removes the competitive and fun aspect from PVP.

The ones being ignorant are Blizzard, for still allowing this addon to stay, and those who defend it.

The only reason people defend it is because a: They use it. b: They would suck without it.

People who complain about players playing on RP and PVE servers and that they suck and that PVP servers is the one true way of playing WoW because “It’s the thrill of knowing someone might attack you out of the blue” “It’s the adrenaline man!” etc yet still use the Spy addon, are hypocrites. They use an addon that removes that whole ‘thrilling’ aspect of PVP.

Thx for sharing the download. Just downloaded it. I am ready for WPVP now. TY Sir!

I could go through the exact same points that have already been made (repeatedly and in detail), explain how you can make new filters for the combat log, etc…
But we both know you’re not gonna care. So I’ll just sum it up instead.

Feel free to do the same.

I’m gonna teach you how to get the same functionality as the Spy AddOn just by using the in-game combat log.

  • Click the “Combat Log” tab in chat.
  • Right click it, then select “Settings”.
  • Click “Add Filter” and give your new filter a name. How about “Spy”?
  • Manage sources for “Spy” and check “Enemy Players” under “Done By”.
  • Check all of the options under “Done To”.
  • Click the “Message Types” tab and make sure the following is checked: Melee (Damage), Ranged (Damage), Spells (Damage, Heals, Power Gains), Periodic (Damage, Heals), Miscellaneous (Kills, Deaths).
  • Click the “Colors” tab and colorize “Unite Names”, “Spell Names”, “Damage Number” and “Damage School”.
  • Click “Okay” in the lower right corner.

Congratulations! You now have the exact same information as the Spy AddOn provides in an easy to read window. You want to ban this as well?

There are plenty other addons that affect combat and give you competitive advantage, so Spy isn’t special in any regard compared to other addons, that’s the point.

I’m using Spy for quite a while.
Gives nice advantages over other people.

There is no surprise that braindead people think that the list below aren’t cheats and are just fine in good MMORPG game.

  • Spy addon
  • multiboxing
  • healbot
  • DBM and other.

Braindead people should not affect the game.
Game directors who make poor decisions and not fix them should be fired in multibillion company.

According to the forum posts, more than a 3/4 of people are braindead, its really surprising for me, since I though wow classic gamer is 25y.o. in average.

Keep it simple and open eyes to the facts.

Lol, a cheat is something that breaks a rule. Spy breaks no rule. Check your facts.

As I said its more than 3/4.

Lol, if you dislike something it’s a “cheat”.

Yeah if only the chat log was so nice and easy to look at.

Whoah… addons make things easier?

Don’t get emotional about this, you look silly.

Anyway, the point is everyone with common sense knows the difference between looking at a chat log and the visuals of Spy.

Looks kinda silly to assume

The point is, an addon’s purpose is to make something easier. Ban all addons? PvE addons give you a speed advantage over those not using them, ban them?

There’s logical reasons for Spy to not be allowed, despite that.

For one, if you’re a hunter it negates(could argue it automates) one vital part of gamplay; tracking.
The visual ques seem minor but it is an instant hit to the brain where you find it easy to remember(cant think of the easier way to describe that) so for example its far easier to remember that there was a group near you and what those classes were; names guild and everything.
Also the visual que for stealth/kos is an extreme example of that, you dont even need to be paying attention for it.

I get that it probably wont be removed and it wont affect me that much, but I think your emotional investment for the other side of the argument to be very peculiar.

It makes my class less unique by its existance, imo thats a big deal.

Ban This Garbage borderline Hack addon NOW !

Emotional? I’m being logical. Addons are created to make something easier. Spy makes something easier. Simple. Combat log parsers were in vanilla, nochanges = this addon is in classic. Logic. Blizz stopped community breaking addon, because of the hype about classic community. But spy is just a log parser, other addons do the same. Disable combat log parsing? Break a whole bunch of addons.

Spy is not just a combat log parser because that doesnt mean anything. Stop talking poo.

They removed aspects of ClassicLFG because it automated parts of gameplay that was considered important.

Spy parses the combat log and displays the info better.

You had to edit your comment but thats the thing.

It doesn’t just make the info easier to see, it’s the only way it’s practical.

Your imaginary scenario of looking at the combat log and getting the same information is nonsense. That would mean not getting information from the other 99% of the screen.

Nope.
Spy doesn’t show you where anyone is. It just shows you that someone is nearby, not where.

That means exactly what it says: it parses the combat log for relevant info.

No, that would mean making a new filter for the combat log (how has been explained multiple times), pulling the window out to where ever you want it, then resizing it to whatever size you want.
