They thought they did, but they didn’t.
Anyone stating bullsh* like “But it was in Vanilla too” or “No changes” are basically saying “I was cheating then, so it should be okay that I cheat right now”
Back in the day add-ons weren’t as commonly used by people as they are today and they definitely weren’t as accessible as they are these days.
Spy is a game breaker for Rogues and Feral Druids, as people have already mentioned in this thread above they can now prepare for every Rogue they come across cause a add-on will tell who’s nearby even when out of line of sight. (Don’t go telling me you play while going 360 with the camera all the time to see everything, not that it would be of much use but I won’t go into those details google if you want to find out why)
Don’t give me the bullsh* of the combat log either, because it’s impossible for humans to keep track of everything happening in the combat log and the rest of the screen. Spy doing all of that for you, is what makes it so convenient for a lot of people but doesn’t take away it’s breaking the game play of Rogues and Feral Druids.
To give a simple example, how is a Rogue going to have any chance against a Mage, Warlock, Priest, Paladin, Warrior, Shaman, Druid, Hunter or other Rogue using the Spy add-on. When there is no element of surprise? Which is what Rogues rely on, if they plan on killing their target.
Some people have already given the answer to this example, the Rogue doesn’t stand a chance cause there is no element of surprise anymore (Unless the target of the Rogue only clicks every ability with their mouse to use their skills) or they simply run away to avoid the fight.
As people have also stated before, Blizzard haven’t been able to do anything about this add-on simply because it would break other add-ons too.
How long did it take Blizzard back in the day to get rid of all the gold farm bots? (Those Hunters you could see brain dead farming 24/7)
It took them quite a while, cause they simple couldn’t just auto ban people as that would affect real farmers too. (A lot of people can farm like bots for a certain amount of time)
I personally don’t use this add-on and will never use it either. I will wait for the day Blizzard is going to simply ban people using it and people crying about not being able to use it anymore in anyway.
Until then, I’ll find a way to kill all the cheaters using the add-on anyway and if I notice they use it I will keep killing them over and over till they get bored or mad.
Stupid… The addon gives people coordinations of other faction players. How is this still not broken?
“Don’t give the reasons why this addon isn’t gamebreaking, because it makes my arguments flawed and I don’t want to hear it!!”
This addon NEEDS to go
Those arguments are flawed and thus invalid.
Go back to school maybe?
Hasn’t broken it for me in retail, why would it in classic?
Why would blizz do that?
It’s your own co-ordinates.
Did you seriously just compare Classic to Retail?
You want to try to compare a Apple to a Orange as well?
They might ban people in time for using it, if they can’t find any other way to disable the add-on without breaking a lot of other add-ons that aren’t game breaking.
DBM Isn’t game breaking, as it’s a tool for blind people unable to respond within 10 seconds. (I used it back in the day, cause my guild back then required me to have it in order to get into a raid… But I already understood back then, most people are idiots just like they still are and that’s why Retail turned out the way it is…)
No matter what kind of arguments you try to come up with, the fact remains Spy gives people a advantage that’s game breaking for Rogues and Feral Druids in Classic and thus falls under the category of cheating.
Coming with flawed and invalid arguments on why it isn’t game breaking or a form of cheating. Is either not wanting to see the facts or being too stupid to see them even though many people pointed them out already.
Simply saying “I want to keep my cheat and advantage or I can’t kill a Rogue and will only die to them QQ”
When a Warlock or Shadow Priests sees me, I’m dead cause if they’re smart they’ll dot me right away. Nothing I will be able to do at that point.
If however I can sneak up to a Warlock, I might have a chance on killing the Warlock depending on his PvP skills.
If a add-on tells the Warlock, I’m already close how is he going to let me sneak on him? He isn’t.
A Priest gave a example of how hard it is (or should I say nearly impossible?) for a Rogue to kill him since he uses the add-on.
Now if you want to reply again, I suggest using your brains and think hard before replying.
Well it’s been 15 years, maybe in another 15
Yeah, Classic is out for 15 years now…
Maybe you can go troll on the Retail section of the forums?
Neither a rogue, nor a feral druid, but I also think this addon is disgusting. I downloaded to see how it works.
Last night I was questing in Arathi and saw a notice about an enemy rogue around. So I just popped my racial a couple of minutes later and saw him, got him out of stealth and as he was 3 levels lower and had no opened, I finished him off. If I didn’t have the addon, the battle would’ve gone differently. Basically it felt like cheating. Deleted the addon right after logging out.
Then list the flaws.
+1 This addon needs to go.
I felt forced to install it myself.
Why use a wooden sword if steel ones are allowed?
It gives a huge advantage over players that don’t use it.
Stealth classes are not that stealthy any more.
Kill this addon please.
Thats probably one of the biggest issues, that people feel forced to use it
This thread is getting close to the level of the “BoE ninja” threads in its hilarity.

I will wait for the day Blizzard is going to simply ban people using it
Is that what you’re seriously suggesting? Well first of all, that won’t happen. Secondly, if it were to happen, people would just use another addon, called “not-spy” with the exact same functionality.

Stupid… The addon gives people coordinations of other faction players. How is this still not broken?
Because you’re lying and it doesn’t do that.

So this rogue not only happened to attack you exactly when you popped your racial, but also failed to run away from a paladin? Doesn’t sound to me like the addon problem.
You should atleast use alternative characters to attempt to hide your agenda.

You should atleast use alternative characters to attempt to hide your agenda.
What would this agenda be? As I said, I don’t care if this addon becomes unavailable for whatever reason. All I’m saying is it doesn’t give the gamebreaking advantage people claim it does, and its totally fine to use it.
Sure. The 4 people with 150 combined posts on the topic with the same opinion, dont have an agenda.
The add on is a literal cheat, totally removing any element of surprise is an overwhelming advantage in PvP.

Because opinion doesn’t equal agenda? You should grab a tinfoil hat instead of that t2 helmet probably.
