People who develop add-ons like this ruin games.
Anyone who feels they need add-ons like this should get their cowardly butts off of pvp servers and out of any form of pvp.
There are pve servers if you hate pvp. And if you get your kicks from being falsely powerful go play a single player game where you’re the chosen one or something.

An addon is not a cheat, so no one is defending cheating. All addons are an advantage in some respect, but are only doing what the player could do themselves, except easier than without addon.

Wrong. There are normal realms and rp realms, and no pvp realms.

Also the only reason why an add-on hasn’t ruined WoW is because Blizzard have cracked down on those that threatened to.
If you don’t think the information below looks like cheating, then either you don’t understand how pvp is supposed to work or you use the add-on yourself.
People were already using similar addons in vanilla, i know i was. I was relying heavily on Kill on Sight List to remember douchebags names.
Anyone that creates/uses cheats is not awesome. The spy addon is not a cheat, the dev is awesome. If an addon was a cheat it would be banned quickly.
Blizzard don’t think what this addon does is a cheat. You saying they don’t understand their own api? It reads the combat log, which you can do without the addon.
Lets get real. The combat log can often scroll way too fast for anyone to read during combat. The add-on reads the combat log even when it’s impossible for a human to do so. Don’t try to pretend the add-on merely does what a human can also do.
Have to say I agree with you. It has ruined a couple of my stalking. Then recently I saw the addon, and immediately recognised people’s behaviour that have it. Unfortunately to stay competitive, I’m now also using it. Would prefer it not existing. Ow well, I’ll just be in stealth for longer periods that people don’t even get the alert.
Spy is mostly used pre-combat, that’s the point of it.
Ofc the combat log is not always easy to read. That’s what an addon is for.
All addons are doing something that makes something easier than without the addon.

Yes I do but not the kind that allow me to make another player’s stealth less effective. My add-ons only affect me personally. They do not affect anyone else. Which is how they should be.
There is quite a big difference between an addon that makes it easier to manage my bars, and an addon that effectively greps for players out of a tailed log and dings when it finds a match to its criteria. Don’t strawman, you’re better than that.
gamebreaking addons must be banned.
Thing that FaiLizzard doesn’t ban it - doesn’t mean it is safe / doesn’t ruin game.
Examples:
Spy addon is a affecting hard PVP, ruining it. Is allowed by FaiLizzard / MoneyVision.
Cheatoboxing is a cheat. Alloed by FaiLizzard / MoneyVision.
There is more stuff going on.
You can rationalize anything. All addons give some advantage, otherwise pointless to install.
Thank you for completely ignoring the difference between an add-on that only affects the user, and an add-on that affects more than just the user.
Nonsense, the addon was around in Vanilla.
I think you guys over reacting about the subject. The only useful thing what the addon really does is announce if enemy gets close to you. All the other features are pretty crap: map/minimap icons of coords? - bull$hit, nobody staying at one place and those icons became very annoying overlapping all of the map so you end up turning it off. Player detection; works weird, it does detect players if they are out of sight, however you are NOT get his position because even if you target the enemy there are no target marks on minimap; and if you are on open field you will able to see enemy BEFORE addon tells you.
So my opinion is that addon definitely does affect the game, but it’s very far from braking gameplay.

What really should be banned are retail babies trying to remove addons that was around in Vanilla, like Spy. Yo do know that Spy and similar addons have existed in retail too for a long time? How come you aren’t complaining about them?
Disagree, I had a questing addon back in the day, it was like an additional minimap which shown the objectives… forgot the name, but it also shown opposing faction players on the map too.
It’s nothing new, therefore, there’s nothing wrong.

My bad for trusting the creator of an addon over a random guy on the internet. If you scroll a bit further down you’ll see he provided evidence which contradicted my beliefs and I admitted fault.
