Starborne Gathering: Event for Nightborne & Night Elf Arcanists đŸ§™â€â™€ïž

Rumors are circulating in Suramar that Lord Remethion Lastaril is organizing a gathering for the citizens of Suramar to meet the Highborne of Kalimdor. This event presents an opportunity for individuals to discover long-lost relatives and bridge the ancient divide between practitioners of arcane who were once part of a unified civilization. The intention is to honor their shared origins and prevent them from being forgotten, through the exchange of enigmatic gifts and knowledge.

Highborne Serafier Winterflow, Lastaril’s correspondent about the matter, has agreed to assist in making this gathering a reality. The news of this initiative spreads through the Shen’dralar to other night elf arcanists by word of mouth. They are invited to explore a mutual heritage, exchange magical gifts as a symbol of goodwill, and pay tribute to the recently passed Shen’dralar mage Taroth Shadewell, who desired to be buried in Tel’anor, a graveyard overlooking the city of his birth.

In the voices of many delivering word of the occasion, there’s a lingering nostalgia mingling with cautious anticipation.

Date: Sunday 26th May
Time: 20:00 Server Time
Location: Tel’anor, Suramar
Target Audience: Nightborne and Night Elf arcanists
Hosted by: Remethion & Acrona (as Serafier Winterflow)

OOC information:

There are many public crossfaction events hosted on Argent Dawn, and we aim to target a more specialised audience for this particular event. Its primary purpose is to create opportunities for individuals roleplaying as a nightborne / night elf practitioner of the arcane, to connect with one another. Our intention is for the characters to have enough in common, such as their heritage and interest in magic, which will help them engage in conversations.

Event program:

Introduction

:left_speech_bubble: The event will begin with an introduction held by Serafier and Remethion. The two nobles shall explore the gathering’s raison d’etre, and offer a quick overview of the night’s themes.

Formal exchange of arcane gifts

:handshake: Every individual should bring a gift from their homeland. A typical product of their people’s arcane craftsmanship, that will then be offered to another character of the opposing faction: a gesture of goodwill and solidarity.

Gift examples

The Arcanist’s Almanac. Nothing screams arcane such as a spellbook. Surprise your guests with an intricately crafted tome containing spells and incantations passed down through the newest generations of nightborne mages, showcasing the progress our people have achieved during their time of isolation underneath the dome.

Guide to the Constellations. If you’re uncertain, a book is usually a safe bet. A highborne may instead gift a book about constellations that can’t be seen from Suramar’s skies - this book could depict and study the movements of celestial bodies seen on the other side of the planet? And it doesn’t have to be a book. Give it a twist, make it an illusion!

Weapon - Sword. Highborne and nightborne have very different weaponcrafting techniques. Whereas highborne are known for their great runeblades, the nightborne instead have the iconic arcblades. Who would say no to a priceless weapon?

Divination Orb. Pulsing with arcane energy, a divination orb may be capable of farseeing, allowing you to scry remote areas otherwise inaccessible to the eyes, but may also be capable of showing you glimpses of your own future.

Feast, drinks, mingling

:clinking_glasses: There’ll be opportunity to speak freely with the other attendees. Perhaps you’re curious of rumours circlating another person, or interested to learn more about a gift you saw exchanged?

Commemoration

:headstone: Announcing the final will of the late Taroth Shadewell. This includes the distribution of his most prized artifact pieces to select attendees (via RNG), and a joint empowerment of the artifact.

Details regarding Taroth Shadewell that may be familiar to other Shen’dralar

Taroth Shadewell. First a Higborne of Suramar, then a Shen’dralar of Eldre’Thalas.

Despite his desert dry and sarcastic personality, Taroth’s mastery of enchantment and transmutation was often admired by his peers.

During the isolation of the Shen’dralar, he fathered renowned items, from banshee-repelling mirrors to tomes capable of transforming its unsuspecting reader into an animal - or worse. As Eldre’Thalas fell into ruin, he was one of Prince Tortheldrin’s exceptionally ruthless followers in the culling of the city’s population.

After the prince’s death and the Highborne’s difficult reintegration into the kaldorei society, information about Taroth became scarce. It is known he intended to reunite with his family in Suramar but was devastated to learn of their demise during the Nightfallen rebellion.

Taroth’s decision to finally cleanse himself of his past actions, and actively pursue a brighter future for his kin, was the discovery of the diaries written by his Nightborne brother. Having done soul-searching, the Highborne fought in the Fourth War to defend Darkshore, and later helped tutor new kaldorei mages.

Recently, Taroth was taken by an incurable sickness, which at least allowed him time to make his last will known to his closest associates.

Should you desire to share any details regarding your character that would likely be known to other Nightborne or Night Elves, please feel free to post them in the forum thread as RP hooks. This can enhance your experience of connecting with the other characters, particularly given the extended periods of isolation endured by both the Nightborne of Suramar and the Highborne of Eldre’Thalas.

A cross-faction raid group will be formed for the event. If you have any inquiries about the gathering, please don’t hesitate to ask here or reach out to the hosts.

Arcane magic never bothered me anyway.

Time for night elves and nightborne arcane doers to meet for a gathering where, hopefully, they won’t stab each other in the back. Or in the front. Or anywhere else.

Oh, boy. Who ever said Highborne meetings are boring, is sure in for a suprise :smirk:

Eitherway this looks like a very interesting event! Mori here has always tried to keep a cordial relationship with the Nightborne of Suramar, so this will deffo be interesting to come to!

I’m kinda more curious why such a gathering is only restricted for arcanists of each groups? I know the base for Highborne and Nightborne is arcane magic
but there are many other records of characters or even roleplayers who are highborne or nightborne, yet are not practitioners of the arcane arts.

If this is supposed to be a chance for the CITITZENS of Suramar to meet the highborne of Kalimdor and even discover long-lost relatives, why restrict it to purely arcanists?

This is more a question out of curiousity.

This is crazy cool.

Makes me almost regret being stuck on a backwater demon world.

 Almost!

It can be nothing but a wondrous spectacle, when hosted by such illustrious two! Best of all wishes with the event.

What about non-Highborne night elf arcanists?

As we brainstormed our idea, we tried to find things in common for night elves and nightborne. It became evident that arcane magic resonated deeply with what we had in mind, and thus we made it the event’s central theme.

Ultimately, driven by enthusiasm, we were like: heck, yeah, let’s get this thread started! More details will soon come, as a couple of things we had in mind will be about arcane magic. I hope it will become more clear in the following days as we expand on the event’s contents! I apologize if it wasn’t super-clear.

A second problem was a practical one: we both feared imbalance in numbers. Given the greater population of the night elf community compared to the nightborne, we wanted to somewhat tackle this disparity. The prevalence of arcane-hybrids among the nightborne populace should allow us to somewhat mitigate the imbalance without having to resort to OOC tools like the dreaded “number cap”.

Granted, if there is enthusiasm for this kind of events, and non-night elf mages would like to meet nightborne, we can always create more events like this in the future!

You, that is, and any night elf arcanist/arcane magic-user is welcome. It is not a highborne-only event.

That is fair, in all honesty. Was more out of curiousity, as I occasionally struggle with arcane roleplay and sometimes take any Highborne or Nightborne I created down towards a different route instead.

Alas, the reasons you placed forth are completely understandable, and I could see a number issue occuring if it was made
 less restricted.

I may still attend on a arcane user then
but thank you for answering! Very appreciated.

Although I’m certain there is ethusiasm for Highborne to Nightborne meetups, without restrictions of practise. Yet
that is obviously something for the future to consider!

I always wanted more kaldorei/nightborne interaction, especially around mages. I shall do my best to attend !

There has been an update to the thread! OOC informations have been added.

Meanwhile, those that want can post bits of their background, so that others may recognize them as potential RP hooks. For example, here are some of Remethion’s facts that others may have heard of:

KALDOREI EMPIRE:

Friends in high places. During the Kaldorei Empire the Lastaril were known for being part of a highborne sect which excelled at acquiring artifacts for the Grand Magistrix Elisande.

Veteran of the Empire. In a now nearly-forgotten era, Remethion fought against the enemies of the Kaldorei Empire - trolls, mogu, and vrykuls. Not all his expeditions were a success, and on occasion the nobles of the Empire, arcanist included, reported an astounding defeat in the Battle of Suramar Pass.

NIGHTBORNE-ERA:

Arcanist of the Duskwatch. During Suramar’s isolation, Remethion worked as an arcanist in the Nighthold. During the late stages of the Insurrection, Remethion resigned.

Loyalist or Rebel? The truth may be out there, but not in Remethion’s case. Malicious rumors insinuate he conspired with the demonkind to kill his brother, Maphazael Aesther Lastaril, and take his place as the Lord of the House.

Cursed. His face bears the marks of a dark curse which devours the arcanist’s very magic.

REMETHION TODAY:

Following his brother’s mysterious fall, Remethion is currently the head of House Lastaril. But his more eccentric adventures happen beyond the borders of the city: rumors have it, he is an avid artifact hunter.

He still retains some friends in the Nighthold, as he is on occasion involved in city-wide festivals.

I will do my upmost to attend this event. It’ll be an exciting and interesting moment between two cultures! Here’s three little hooks about my Mage!

Roleplaying Hooks & Knowledge

Lorekeeper of the Athenaeum

During the isolationist era of the House of Shen’dralar, Rhyari Lashel’derel spent thousands of years as the librarian and one of many lore keepers within the depths of Eldre’thalas.

House of Lashel'derel

A Highborne lineage traced back to Eldre’thalas and a family of Arcanists trained at the Mennar Academy, and Rhyari continues to hold an ancient Mennar Tome to this day.

Arcane Seeker & Bookkeeper

To the modern day, she has been known to seek arcane artefacts and books of magical knowledge from across the known world to keep and archive, to make up for knowledge lost by the Horde raid of the Athenaeum.

Some information / RP hooks about Serafier Winterflow:

History

Originally a Highborne of Zin-Azshari, Serafier was one born into her caste. In Suramar today, a meticulous seeker may find some faded record of the Winterflow family line making notable profit from memory crystals which, created with ancient sorcery, were used to store history, stories, music, and sometimes even memories.

Serafier married Mafus Nightomen, a union of two noble houses arranged by their families. The two stayed together until the Legion shoved the Night Elf Empire into chaos.

While Mafus stayed behind, fervently loyal to Queen Azshara, Serafier fled the city during the War of the Ancients and reached Eldre’Thalas with her young twin sons. Pregnant at the time, she gave birth to the couple’s third son in Feralas. Mafus is thought to have met his demise by either the Kaldorei Resistance or the Great Sundering.

The following thousands of years, the family kept close watch of each other’s backs as part of the Shen’dralar, ‘Those Who Remain Hidden’. It is rumored that Serafier would occasionally venture out in search of artifacts, despite the Highborne’s banishment and the potential danger of being apprehended by the kaldorei.

Recent past

Serafier is a skilled artificer who guards her ancient knowledge of the arcane with secrecy. It’s rumored among the Shen’dralar that she harbors a cryptic compilation of artifacts that are concealed and meticulously guarded in Feralas. According to certain sources, it is possible that the Highborne retains a collection of ancient memory crystals from a bygone era, although others speculate that it was all destroyed during the Horde’s assault on Eldre’Thalas.

Be as it may, one could surmise the reasons behind the Winterflow family’s persistent presence in Feralas instead of assimilating into the wider night elf populace.

One of the twins, Dalathir, and the third son Reikh’aris, are still often seen in Serafier’s company.

Serafier has organized several events with the Higborne’s interests in mind, such as a public tournament in the Eldre’Thalas amphitheater to ward off the ogres, social gatherings, and relic hunt expeditions. The family’s participation in the Fourth War is not documented.

The Highborne is known to be the mother of Acrona Winterflow, although there remains speculation regarding the origins, as Acrona was not born or raised in Eldre’Thalas. The revelation of the daughter’s existence was a complete surprise to everyone about fifteen years ago. The astonishment extended to Serafier’s own sons.

"The Heir

Records speak of the Wintercrests as being a despotic dynasty which held domain over Kel’Theril for a time. Older archives may contain as many of their names in contributions to the understanding of cryptographic cyphers and shrouding magic as in the amount of academic scandals and convicted political assassinations.

The Scion

Millenia after the sundering, Aurellys was born as the youngest daughter to an eminent family which retained the good graces of an increasingly maddened prince. Strong in the arcane by lineage and gifted by birth, she showed a potential which never got to fully bloom due to an abrupt, mysterious disappearance.

The Fugitive

Barely surviving first contact with the common kaldorei and unable to find her way home, Aurellys took to a life on the run, living like an outcast while doing what she could to sustain her mana addiction and easily befriended any other unfortunate souls which shared a similar plight.

The Rogue

Posing as a blood elf, she joined her distant cousins over the sea under the horde’s banner, finding kinship with both sin’dorei and nightborne. Been involved in both peoples’ affairs, celebrations and conflicts. Lastly, has been a semi-reliable means of procurement for rare relics and magical artifacts.

Joining on the party with some hooks !

Birth of the House Manapearl

The Manapearl house is a minor lineage originated from Suramar. Founded by Lothiel Manapearl, the family was known for their incredible proficiency with enchantments and runes. Lothiel did work with many other house to craft powerful artifacts.

Lothiel had two sons. His eldest, Shanelor, lived in Zin-Azshari and acted as heir of the house and was the political head of the family, despite his father still being alive. The youngest, Gertiel, oversaw their estate in Suramar. Due to that separated organization, Shanelor side of the family died during the Sundering, except for Milandra and her daughter, Tessaemay. Gertiel and his wife survived, stuck in Suramar.

A rumor grew among highborne during the Empire, pretending the Manapearl were cursed to fall to insanity. The tragic ends of Lothiel, Shanelor and later Milandra only fed the rumor, even after the Sundering.

Two Families

While all Manapearl were born and raised in Suramar, they attended the court in Zin-Azshari for centuries. After the Sundering, Milandra and Tessaemay were separated from the rest of the family, which prompted Milandra to seek isolation and did not join the highborne in Eldre’thalas.

Overtime, the Manapearl trapped in Suramar settled in the new life within the dome. No one can precisely explain why they changed their name to Mana’garia but the rumor surrounding the tragic fate of their parents likely encouraged Gertiel to distance himself from their original name.

When Suramar opened to the outside during the Campaign against the Legion, Milandra made contact with her cousins. Yet the long awaited reunion turned to bloodshed when questions of legacy were brought up. No one know exactly what happened between her and Gertiel, but as both are now dead, the truth is unlikely to ever come out.

A Broken Legacy

In the present time, only Tessaemay remains for the highborn side of the Manapearl House. A few shal’dorei are still called Mana’garia but that branch of the family is more obscure. Tessaemay has some contacts with her known cousins, mostly through letters with Alynia who has been the head of the Mana’garia House after Gertiel passing.

Tessaemay is a Valewalker, which only increased her already soft spot for Suramar and its denizens. As she assisted the birth of the Arcan’dor which saved the rebels from withering, she often visit the region to see the ancient tree.

Among kaldorei, her ties with Suramar are often disapproved, especially within the more traditional circles of her kin. During the Empire, she was not well seen by the court neither, as she did not embrace the path of a mage and was criticized even by her own mother for her choices. Nowadays, she does tend to lay low and avoid flaunting her highborn heritage.

Despite the questionable situation of the House Manapearl, Tessaemay protects their legacy with the greatest care. As the sole heiress of millennia of knowledge, history and magical crafts, she never has been keen into sharing any of it, not even with her shal’dorei cousins. One can only theorize on the Why.

It ended up being so much more than what I imagined ! It’s actually quite hard to summarize a long background

Ooh this sounds interesting! Can’t wait to meet everyone and see where this leads!

Hooks/Information below:

The Qin'thana Family

This family has been adored for millennia, and yet reviled by those who carries greed above all else. They have been through the very courts of the Queen herself, the early days of the Sisterhood of Elune, until the War of the Ancients came.

Yet most fancied themselves as enchanters, creating new items for their family that eventually passed down throughout the generations. This continued even after this noble family splintered after Azeroth lost its landmass after the tidal waves. But what stayed was how they bridged the gap between nobility and the common folk for their friendliness and warmth.

Not much can be said as of recent, other than that they are reclusive to a certain degree. While it is mostly known many of them have taken to live upon the Broken Isles, their exact whereabouts remains unknown - and they intend to keep it that way for all the loss they have suffered.

On Zeruda Herself

Born amongst several siblings, Zeruda Qin’thana proved to be the one whom carried the Arcane like none other. With her father a tutor and teacher, it wasn’t hard for her to be accepted into what was considered the Royal Academy. There she studied the arts within Zin-Azshari with love, support, and what little friendships she had.

It is said that it is due to her, the Qin’thana family formed a friendship to the Manashriek family. How exactly this happened, not many can say besides that it was perhaps due to the Lady’s friendly charm and warm disposition.

Yet she had to watch as her world crumbled within the very heart of the Empire, and was one of the few who made it to Suramar. Amongst her was her mother, and twin-brother. With her father lost to the tides, sorrow continued to follow her wake - and without knowledge of how her other three siblings fared.

Under the shield that protected Suramar, she took to the inclinations of gravity-based magic more known as Graviturgy alongside the enchanting. Asides from that, many have seen her as an accomplished painter.

Phew, bit of a longer ones but something to chew upon! I’ll see you folks on Sunday!

Since I will be attending, here are some hooks! Excited for the event!

House Lhalyr

A house that has established themselves for years among the Empire, often meddled with the court and the upper echelon of the Empire. They often provide services, most often discreet and under the table for other Houses.

Each family member had a separate specialization, but their most noticeable ones were the twins. Which, both, took a sudden different turn on how the House operated.

They had turned the House into a secretive organization called Shen’Talore for their own gains in the underworld, where they allowed for clients to request for jobs such as cursing individuals or use divination to gather information that is not to be known.

Araleath Lhalyr

The Male of the Twin, Lord of House Lhalyr and part of the Shen’Talore. He was the mastermind behind the organization along with his sister Seralyn.

Specialized in graviturgy and divination, he often performed the divination requests. While his sister was more on the cursing side.

After the Sundering, he joined the Shen’dralar with his Sister, along with his own family. During the Prince’s dark turn and culling, his own wife and children had been taken away from him, permanently.

He is still a part of the Shen’dralar and keeps to his duties, providing best what he can to them and the Kaldorei.

Hooks:

House Nishillion once bore a different name, as did Scythois herself, but these names have been lost to history since the emergence of Shalassian culture within Suramar’s isolated dome. A minor yet remarkably stable Highborne clan, House Nishillion has maintained a modest size and influence throughout the eons. The house finally experienced its breakthrough during the Nightfallen rebellion when Scythois, the youngest sister of the brood, broke her family’s pledge of allegience to the Grand Magistrix. With the support of her siblings, she usurped the eldest’s position and shifted loyalties towards the revolution.

Scythois, naturally, immediately proceeded to neglect her new responsibilities, leaving her retinue to desperately hold things together in her absence. She was appointed a magistrix in the wake of the war, filling one of the many seats that had been left vacant. In part because of her talent and obsession with the illusionary and chronomantic schools of magic, but also because of her contributions during the insurrection.

She loves to go where she isn’t supposed to be, associate with people she’s not meant to, and overindulge in simple pleasures instead of fulfilling her duties. Her redeeming qualities is that she’s quite fun at parties, amiable towards strangers and even supposed enemies, and quick to adopt a very cosmopolitan mindset.
