Key word here is FARM
Regardless of what you are farming for, be it gold, or a rare for a mount or what ever, you are doing it in the game.
There really is no differens between farming for gold or for a mount to drop in the game.
Thats weird, by going with the same analogy, they never were selling 2 products, your first product would be your subscription which is Access to the game.
Your second product doesn’t currently exist and therefor he is not going to sell you an item you havn’t asked for. Infact hes saying, “Hey, i have an exclusive item, that you may be interested in, but this is the cost.”
Now your just mad because you want it but dont want to pay for it neither do you want make a little gold (You 100% dont need to farm 10 hours a day for it either). Neither is a transmog in the shop “content”.
Blizzard actually managed to make you people pay to play this game, to farm gold to own 13 dollars in their store, while raking in 7 dollars in the process.
Blizzard is brilliant.
Lol it really isn’t much work to it at all, but I suppose
says it all really. I have nothing more to add to that.
Says the guy who spends more money in a heroic edition of WoW for the mount?
It literally is cutting content in the game when they could be turned into content for the secret finding community or as some sort of rep reward or even just a rare drop to incentivise players to play the game regardless of when the art team designed them. For all we know half of all WoW content could be an afterthought but at least it’s actual content instead of something you buy off the shop.
Blizzard has enough excuses to lay off whoever they want whenever they want to and it’s facetious to say that the art team provides no value in between expansions just because Blizzard refuses to add mid-patch content. Besides, if they truly had so much free time they wouldn’t have needed to reuse so many instances for scenarios and raids.
Nobody’s disputing the talent of the art team, so it’s all the more tragic to see their work be put in the store instead of as an in-game reward for content whether it be a 20 day grind or a 20 minute quest chain. Adding any in-game asset into the Blizzard shop is, by the law of opportunity cost, cutting content from the game.
Support the art team all you like, but the only pretending that’s happening here is you pretending that buying cosmetics off the Blizzard shop actually realistically supports the “integrity” of the art team.
“What’s that cool mount you have? It looks really nice”
“Oh I bought it in the store”
“Can I earn it in game?”
“No because I support the art team so I bought it with real money”
???
I guess by your logic there’s no added value to keeping anyone who does lore or music or voice acting or dungeon design close to the production of the game either because there’s only so much they do after each major patch.
… oh wait, YES you can. Farm a few hundred k gold.
ACTIVISION-Blizzard
… that someone else had already convenient paid Blizzard before-the-fact. Also this has no bearing on my general point. I mean it’s true that gold farming is technically content but it’s not anything that they’ve put actual effort into and most people who grind gold already have enough to cycle through every single store mount a few times anyway.
I guess you can get CE with gold too so getting boosted is actually content for players too right? lmao
Nobody but whales play OW, HoTS barely exists and Hearthstone is a cardgame so who cares
Which that person, who bought the token, would have done anyway to get gold ingame instead. You said it’s not obtainable in game, but in fact it is obtainable in game.
You brought it up, not me.
I honestly can’t see what the CE, bought for gold or not, would have to do with boosting. Don’t grasp for straws now…
That’s not my problem lol but I’ll help you understand anyway
If the logic is: Farm gold → Blizz store cosmetics → content
then: Farm gold → Buy boosts for CE / Glad → content
which if you think is true then you’re allowed to stay in your little bubble
The person who’s clasping at straws here is the one attacking my hypothetical instead of making rebuttals to my actual points
Farming gold for a mount or item from an in game vendor, is no different to farming the gold for balance to buy from the shop.
If someone buys me lunch it’s still a free lunch regardless of the fact that whoever took me out paid for it. It is no less free. This was a great example given on Taliesin & Evitel’s twitter.
In the early days players did not have the gold option at all. That has changed so if anyone wants that ugly gaudy fairy costume they can earn gold and get it. It’s a heck of a lot cheaper than the amount of gold that was needed for the Long Boi. Some of us (myself included) get them totally free because they are a freebie bonus thrown in for having a six monthly recurring sub. Others who can’t stand the idea of making the gold can just straight up buy it. Some people are very good at making gold, they will flip on the AH, boost or just straight up grind it out.
It is optional fluff. It’s not going to affect anyone’s dps, healing or tanking, they are not going to turn into a god of PvP by wearing this costume. Although judging by some of the childish reactions to people wearing the outfits free or paid for, you might be able to be a pretty good decoy in a BG.
Think you might have directed that to the wrong person, cause that is kinda pretty much what I said
Farm gold ingame and buy tokens so you can get items from the store via ingame means.
