Stuck in loading screens

Yeah.

I’ve used VPN to a different Scandinavian country for about a day and a half and everything has been working great.

I did some quick tests right now, because of your earlier post about CGN.

EDIT: And I do have CGN enabled from my ISP, and a CGN-range IP on my public router).

When I’m not connected to VPN I still get stuck in loading screens. By login, or by portals, I will get stuck every now and then (at least once every fourth loading screen).

This time however, I decided to VPN into Norway (so still in Norway), and it does seem like this is working well. I’ve portaled about 30 times without issues. Not an extensive test or anything.

As many others have stated, this specific problem started after 10.2, and my guess would still be that Blizz has implemented new features/technology that doesn’t work well with some ISPs (at least in Norway). Since Norway as a country does not seem to be problematic, I would suspect it’s probably an issue with features/technologies used by the ISPs (or some of them).

I’ve never worked with CGN, so I’m not very familiar with that technology, but I would suspect that my VPN would effectively remove possible CGN issues (as long as the ISP allows the VPN-connection)?

Is there any other way of working around CGN (if only for test purposes), except contacting the ISP?

In my opinion it’s still Blizzards job to implement usable services, since CGN by a quick glance seems to be a standardized and globally accepted method of NAT-ing.

Only way to work around CGN without contacting the ISP is using a VPN that gives each user a unique IP.

No ISP’s should block VPNs or websites, outside of court orders, (like what happened to piratebay).
Or known harmful sites. Like spam/virus related.
Lots of people use VPN for work, but it would be possible to block certain VPN providers, but ISP’s have no incentive to do this. Work and cost for no gain for the ISP.

After checking a little more on this, I don’t think this is CGN related, but more likely routing or server issues somewhere.

After the patch release I’m sure there is a lot more traffic to the bliz servers and I doubt all traffic from norway has the same route.

So I think some of the traffic gets routed to a server in the chain that has issues. Or a route has capacity issues somewhere along the way.

Blizzard would be the people to figure out where the problem happens and can either do something about it or contact the network owner the issues happens at.

The VPN providers likely has a different route from your ISP to blizzards servers that avoid the problem.

I haven’t had any issues today so far but I’m not holding my breath exactly. Let’s see what happens.

Thanks regarding the clarification about CGN. Yeah, my point wasn’t that VPN in general is blocked by the ISP, but I was curious if Norwegian laws/law-proposals (e.g. our attempts to ban/block online gambling etc.), at a point caused some Blizzard services to be mistakenly blacklisted/blocked/sinkholed. After all, known virues/spam-sites are also updated and maintained autonomous, and ips/urls/sites/services in misplaced categories/lists does happen

It’s indeed interesting if we maybe have capacity, route, and/or server in the chain issue since it appears to be people from most of the country. Which in turn means that quite a large region has the same single dependency.

Same issues here.
Norway, Altibox.
Both retail and classic.

Me and my husband got the same problem.

Altibox Norway

I had a good roll too, until I had to HS to my Garrison and then everything just started falling apart after that :joy:

Not checked this thread in a few days as I gave up trying to play, I see alot of Norwegians are having a similar issue to me, I also live in Norway.

Im from Sweden and have same issues. Telia as ISP

Same issue, with Altibox. Norway.

Same problems also from norway, Altibox internet, thought it be just normal.patch day shenanigans, after hotfixes still hanging in loading screen every portal i take. Stuck aeveral times just logging into my account with black screen and no characters. Phasing out several times going into Zaralek caverns not able to log in fot at least 5 tries with same char. Its exhausting and wasting the time i bought and setted aside to play something.

Same issue in Sweden with Telia ISP.

Same issue, Norway / Altibox

Same issue both in WotLK Classic and Classic Hardcore, getting stuck on loading screens, or getting random latency spikes that cause me to get stuck at the end of flight paths, or have other player character keep running in place and being unable to interact with NPCs until I either disconnect or it resolves itself (which is rare) or until I Alt+F4 and try to re-launch.

West Norway, Albox/Bergen Fiber is my ISP.

Played all day yesterday with no issues using a VPN set to Sweden. Today, forgetting to start the VPN, the first loading screen freezes and I have to Alt+F4. People shouldn’t have to buy a VPN service to play this game. And someone from Blizzard needs to respond to this thread, because this issue is still unresolved.

someone said further up in the thread they tagged them on twitter and got a response. they are aware and investigating but have no ETA. a formal response on this thread would still be appriciated though.

Just got my first frozen screen of the day after playing for about 4-5 hours.

Howdy!

We have taken steps to help resolve this issue! Can you please retest and let us know if things have improved?

Thank you!

EDIT: ^^^ Guess I was a bit slow there…

I got a reply from Blizzard about an hour ago:

“…
Thanks for reporting your loading issue in-game, we’ve been looking into other reports and are investigating into an issue with connections reaching our realms from your country. That looks to be happening on diferent ISPs so seems to be a connection routing issue.
…”

I guess they’re onto it

I think blizzard should give us all free VPN so we can play their game
