When reading old forumposts I stumbled across comments stating that Blizzard added rating requirement for TBC Classic arena gear. Is this correct?
It is my understanding this was not in TBC original. Have they stated anything similar for TBC Anniversary? And also, was there any reason behind this change if they did it in TBC Classic?
I hope that they don’t gatekeep gear from casuals and lesser skilled players. It would make the gap to fight better players even larger and could have alot of players avoiding pvp altogether.
It seems like such a stupid thing to add to me. PvP should be about who is the better player and having titles and mounts is a good enough incentive. Gatekeeping gear from “bad” pvp-ers seems like it would just make alot of people not bother with pvp at all, but thats just my personal guess.
It’s similar to R14 - prevent PvP gear from being welfare epics. Current season arena gear requires an Arena Rating to purchase. Previous season’s gear does not.
I wouldn’t call it wellfare epics when people farm and grind to enhance their character. But I get your point.
Seeing that wowhead-link it seems that they actually did add a rating requirement in Classic TBC. Probably they will in Anniversary as well then but I’m guessing we have heard nothing at all seeing as there are basically no updates at all from Blizzard in terms of TBC Anniversary.
For me personally I would prefer if PvP was based on skills only. Im not a fan of creating a huge power-gap where the better players outgear everyone who isn’t as good. And I also think that this would greatly disincentivise a quite large casual playerbase from even bothering with arena.
Edit: Just to clarify, I feel the same way when people who raid and get huge PvE-items have a big advantage in the PvP-scene when that have occured historically.
For me personally though my headache is this; I would have to play arena with pugs first in order to get gear. And first after I have bought my BIS pvp-gear for the season I could play with my friends who usually struggle a bit in PvP. I’m not even sure that they would feel like facing of vs better opponents if they will have a permanent gear-advantage as well though. To me this is all a nobrainer but perhaps I’m in the minority with my views and on how I enjoy PvP.
If someone’s semi-AFK in BGs and tries to gank green levels in the open world, then no Arena epic. Arena is competitive content with its own rewards - if you aren’t raiding or PvPing competitively, you won’t have the best gear in the game for the given moment.
I think this is arguing a bit in absurdum. Being AFK in a BG or ganking lowlevels in world pvp should not reward arena-gear no. Of course not. And I never said that either.
I was also against this when I heard it was in TBC.
But it actually works great, - It’s awesome to see someone in a full PvP set in TBC because you know they’re a skilled player.
Frankly the ‘‘everyone should be equal balanced gear’’ mentality has been tested again and again in retail. It always ends up being boring and unsatisfying.
Well sure, but also you can see that people are skilled from titles and mounts etc and still have an even playingfield in the arena where the playerskill is what matters only. This setup to me have been the best seasons. Not when lesser skilled people will permanently have worse gear or when for example when you are required to hardcore-raid to get the current PvP-BIS.
I think having huge gaps in gear, where the best players will always outgear the lesser skilled PvP-ers is really bad and will disincentivise people from playing arena. But it’s just my opinion, what I believe the consequences are and perhaps I’m wrong.
I was mostly curious what system they would have in place for Anniversary so I could plan accordingly. And to be honest I think playing with my friends who are usually quite low-rated will be out of the question. They might not even bother if they will have a permanent gear-disadvantage in the arena. And for me having to pug in order to gear up before playing with my friends feels so bad… Anyway, I didnt write the post to argue pro’s and con’s of having gear-disparities in the arena.
And seeing as they did have rating-requirements in TBC Classsic I’m positive that they will do the same in Anniversary.
Thank you for the information.
But please dont quote me and modify my sentences… This was my actual sentence:
It’s not a huge gap, the rating requirements are really low. Only the shoulders have a hard requirement. You will have 99% the same gear if you are just average.
But you can’t queue for 10 games and loose them all every week and get full PvP BiSl
What a degenerate answer. Who are you even arguing with? Did you even read my post?
Or are you saying that my opinion not valid unless I login and show you my titles? So stupid… Shouldnt really bother to reply tbh.
You know you could just say that you disagree and provide a counter-argument like a normal adult person?
Yeah, but like I said I will be forced to gear up with pugs before playing with my friends. They are usually 1k rating below me. And so again, my concern is twofold, firstly I have to play with pugs and get BIS in each season before I can start playing with my friends. Secondly I’m not sure they are too fond of doing arena when stuck in a permanent gear-disadvantage due to their lower skill.
And people can disagree all they want. I dont care. I just wanted to know what system would be in place seeing as some people claimed that S1 and S2 in original had an even playingfield in the arena.
Im just pointing out my view that arena should be based on skills and not gear-difference and provided information about how my situation is as context for my question. It seems I offended some people by asking this question though. Yikes…
Nah it’s okay, deffinantly didn’t offend me. Im just trying to explain how it works for you and the positives of it, dont worry.
Firstly: Everyone will start with full honor gear, meaning everyone will be on the same playfield gearwise.
Secondly: The rating requirements are very low (almost non-existant) so unless your plan is to queue up and purposely loose 10 games for points, you will be able to achieve almost all the BiS PvP - Probably except for shoulders ONLY, which are the 2k requirement.
And in TBC classic, they also added a system where you could exchange PvE gear tokens for current PvP gear - AND a lot of PvE gear is useful in arena, so there is really almost endless ways to gear up and fill the gaps in TBC.
Im trying to say I understand your concerns for what the rating requirements seems to represent, but it doesn’t really work like that in practice in TBC.
Edit: The rating requirements really in practice in TBC only serves one purpose: People with full current PvP sets including the shoulders are cool because most PvP’ers run around with the dustly old shoulders from the previous season who are almost equally as good. (difference is like a few stats)
You dont want rating requirements on the current seasons gear.
It´s basically saying that you are not good enough to reach said rating but you still want gear for free.
Yeah I knew I didnt offend you with my question. That part of my comment was certainly not directed at you. I really apreciate all your feedback!
I feel I should really avoid discussing WHY I asked the question, seeing as people got really emotionally upset by it and it’s all they can see and everyone ignores my question.
But against better judgement, yeah my friends would struggle quite hard long before even getting the weapon at 1850 (if TBC Classic is what we get again). But yes, there are workarounds. They could get into raiding as well etc to try and create an even playingfield in the arena seeing as they wont be able to get full arena-gear. I apreciate your feedback on fixes to that problem. Either way is fine, I just wanted to know what system we get so I can plan ahead.
I didnt start doing serious pvp until 2008 or something so I don’t remember how the arena seasons was back in TBC. I was only doing PvE back then. And I have had mutiple people telling me that there was no rating-requirement in S1 and S2 in TBC. Which would be quite nice for me because then I could play with my friends instead.
And so I naively thought “lets ask the wow forums for more information, it should be a good place”… But all I have had now is one guy claiming the oposite - that there was rating requirement back in S1 and S2 in 2007. So I’m not really any wiser as of now. I can’t see any information at all from Blizzard about anything TBC Anniversary so I guess we will find out when it launches.
Yeah you ignored my question completely… But either way, since you brought it up… I want all arena gear to only be available at your maximum rating, +1. No free wellfare epics or pvp-gear for you!
Your question has been answered here many times. There were rating requirements in original TBC.
You act like a child that wants his reward despite not having done its homework.
Wow… Is throwing insults at people the only thing you are capable of? Complete degeneracy… If this is the level on these forums I should remember to stay way clear of it.
And for the record, Netheroh was the only one answering my question. Saying that there was rating requirement in TBC original. So now I have a few people telling me no rating requirement and one guy in these forums telling me yes.
And a bunch of nasty replies and insults of course… It’s like a kindergarden in here…
Anyway, I realize asking a simple question in these forums was a big mistake so no need to continue with your random insults. I know looking for an answer in here is worse than fruitless and I will be on my way.
I played in real TBC on Misery and later Cyclone and I can confirm that there was no rating requirement in season 1 and season 2, as personal rating was not added until season 3 (vengeful). This was done in an attempt to completly change how rating system works for gladiator.
As selling and boosting teams and playing 10games would effectively give the buyer gladiator without having the personal rating himself. Many guilds did this so everyone could have the 310% mount. Play the team to high rating on the brackets on ur battlegrp inv people who couldnt get it, leave the team and create a new one. Many people got gladiator like this in season 2.
In season 3 there was a rating requirement of 1850 for weapons and 2000 for shoulders. This expanded to all pieces including off sets in season 4 with hands from 1500 to weapon 1950 + Shoulders 2200 and the Vengeful gear would have its rating lowered by 50pts.
In last TBC Classic release there was a rating requirement for Shoulders (2000) and Weapons (1850) every season.
Thanks a bunch for the information Decus! This information is just what I was looking for. Much apreciated!
The only thing better would be information directly from Blizzard what their plans are with Anniversay but until we get word from them I think Im going to assume it will be like Classic TBC and not like original TBC.
Big thanks for taking the time with such a detailed reply!
Yeah I would assume so as well. It would be easier and lower cost for them to do a copy-paste of Classic TBC. Only big flaws could be adressed I suppose, if even that.
But now I’m somewhat of certain how it was; Orginal TBC didnt have rating requirement but Classic TBC did. It gives a hint of whats to come.
