The change towards Garrosh' dialogue was unneeded

For those of you that are unaware of this issue, Garrosh his dialogue from the quest “the Warchief cometh” has been changed recently. No longer will Garrosh utter the B word (rhymes with stitch). Some of you may argue this is a good change, you have that right.

I for one, felt that it was unneeded, even more so when you see the reason provided by the team at Blizzard.

A team member sent feedback that he enjoyed playing the game with his kid, but when they encountered Garrosh’s line, it stuck out from other language in the game.

You have a team member, involving his/her child with a game, that he’s not allowed to play because of the age rating the game has. I thought a team member would know the game better than to involve his kid into this game if he/she knew about it.

This is a massively multiplayer online (MMO) role-playing game set in the imaginary world of Azeroth. Players complete quests in order to “level up” their characters, while gaining powers and better weapons/armor/accessories along the way. Quest objectives sometimes involve using magic and hand-to-hand combat to defeat various creatures, enemy soldiers, and occasionally other characters such as innocent villagers. Some attacks can result in splashes of red blood or small bursts of flesh and bone falling to the ground. Certain quests require the player to drink alcohol, resulting in the character’s impaired vision (blurry screen, pink elephants) and movement. Players can interact with scantily clad characters, listen to provocative dialogue (e.g., “Is that a mana wyrm in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?”), or view sexually suggestive dance routines performed by elves and other player-characters. One quest requires players to search for specific creatures among a landscape covered with piles of brown feces. The words “axs,”“bastard,” and “bxtch” can be heard in the dialogue

Second of all, you have a game full with cannibalism, genocide, racial conflict, and much more gruesome matters if you involve yourself into the lore, and you’re going to take issue with Garrosh saying the B word against Sylvanas? What if your kid is going to see the cinematic where the Night Elves get burned alive?

Third of all, are we going towards a future where team members can just change ingame content as they see fit?

Note that I do not wish to witch hunt any of these people involved.

We still don’t know how old the kid was tho? lol

typical blizzard, nothing wrong with displaying murder and genocide, but god forbid we use a word that might upset someone.

Tbh if Blizz was a european company they wouldnt do this. For americans you can explain in every detail a gory mess made by an axe to the head but show some tiddies or say “bad” words everybody loses their minds.

Why though? That simp of a writer deserves to be hunted by a furious orc Warrior.

Indeed. 12-15 year olds are still kids and they’re allowed to play it.

i mean really who cares, its such a small thing to get annoyed about.

Tbh i don´t really care about that change. But to think that kids the age of 12 don´t swear or know worse words than “bit-ch” is ridiculous. xD

I’m fully aware how 12 y/o-s talk. Doesn’t mean parents want to pay for games that contain such words for their 12 y/o-s.

Well yes, but it is even delusional of the parents. Much more improtant would be to teach kids when one is allowed to curse and why Garrosh calling Sylvanas that in that situation is uncalled for. Instead of censorship i mean.
If i had kids i would go that route.

Just because they know the word you don’t want them to think it’s socially appropriate to use.

I agree that parental education is probably the most important part in the matter, but you can’t expect parents to sand comb games like these for every bad word that might appear. They go by PEGI/ESRB ratings which I already criticized WoW for not being 16+, and not for language reasons.

You can’t ignore the fact that not all parents do the best job at teaching their kids about swear words and the likes.

+points at theramoore+ aye what happened there on the other hand is totally fine for a “kid” to witness. Especially if one reads the details what every citizen there suffered in their last moment.

Yeah like I said I think WoW should be 16+.

People like to blame Blizzard but it’s our skewed society as a whole that deems stuff like language, usage of alcohol and tobacco, gambling and sexual themes worse than fantastic racism, genocide, slavery and what not.

Oh i actually don´t expect parents to comb through every game like it, but if their kid says a “bad word” they shouldn´t freak out, but instead teach them about it and its usage (if applicable). Since “bit-ch” is an insult (if directed to a person and not to a female dog) i would actually teach them not to use it at all, since its not nice to insult people.

I only agree with you on your points, but i think looking to blame others for ones own shortcomings isn´t the solution.

I just saw a good solution where someone said they could´ve changed the word “bit-ch” to “witch”. Still censorship but i thought that was a cool idea. Just saying.

P.S. Also i would love a 16+ WoW rating.

Fair enough.

Afaik there is soooo much stuff in the game that this “stood out” is a hypocritical statement at best. Especially in regards of language (hello Illidan for instance)

Dependent on country and also on continent in that regard. The US and EU have quite the opposite opinions on a lot of things.

It’s current year don’t ya know ? Bad words, especially against any gender other than men is the greatest of all transgressions.

Release the hounds!!

I’ve been saying something similar on that thread about the whole male nelf referring to another male nelf as his husband. All the killing and racism ‘race wars’, but this little husband reference offends alot of delicate little snowflakes they see that husband reference worse than genocide, racism and drug addiction themes (ie surramar). Swearing is far worse than genocide apparently.

Lots of people on these forums consider me a kid even with 18 so xd.

It’s such a vague description that is completely up for interpretation.

If you´re talking about the Ardenweald stuff. They are not nightelfs as far as i know. Their names are totally different annd based on the context of what they say its a totally different planet.

But thats by to by
