The Evolution of Creative Content in World of Warcraft

Nothing stopping people from targeting someone and typing /e farts on %t
AFAIK it only works for same faction.

I disaprove of this obvious virtue signaling done by blizzard. Seeing what themes we have ingame such as murder, genocide, cannibalism, war, mutilation etc i dont understand why innocent things as some emotes, some npc names, art assests are seen as inapropiate?
This is a teen rated game so some innuendo and crude jokes should be perfectly fine unless we are down on the path to creating world of hello kitty.
I saw someone else mention this analogy and it made perfect sense to me, wow is made up of many different elements like a fine dish. Some of the ingredients might not taste that great on their own but combined in the greater whole it adds much needed flavor. Blizzard removing all this is like removing a single ingredient will leave us all with a much blander and more boring end result. Compared to other mmoā€™s wow is already pretty bland in this regard.
In the end who is to say what the next person might find offensive and the next? If anything blizzard should increase the obscene jokes, innuendos, fancy artwork.

Oh yes! Finally! FINALLY!!! This is what Iā€™ve been waiting for!
You donā€™t know how many days and nights Iā€™ve just gazed at the ceiling, thinking ā€˜oh god, why isnā€™t succubus a maleā€™? Iā€™ve canceled my subscription 10 times because I REFUSE playing with a female succubus. But now, youā€™ve come to my rescue. Youā€™ve truly heard us, players.

I think youā€™re missing my point spectacularly

Blizzard!!

Wake up!!

Nobody is even playing your game to see your changes!!

Are you so blind and clueless that instead of focusing on bringing the players you are making the remaining leave!

Open your eyes for once!!

to me its just cringe how they present us their late assimilation with their culture, expecting you to adapt

ā€œWe also want players to be able to express themselves through their characters, so we donā€™t intend to change existing player looks or cosmetics.ā€

Thank you.

Seems like Blizzard does read forums after all. Proves it was definitely worth making our worries heard.

You claim to care about player expression and representation, so how about an update of the guild tabards?

Letā€™s be honest, they havenā€™t been updated in ages (or ever?)

P.s. please fix the clipping issues taking place when using a belt. Thank you.

Reading all those unecessary changes that noone cares about while real issues in gameplay are there actually ruining the fun. I donā€™t pay for a ā€œsafe spaceā€, i pay for an enjoyable game.

I hate you guys so much right now.

This is what happens to your game when old talent leaves and you bring he/she/they profile people to work.

There is no needed in any WoW killer, WoW just killed themself in Shadowlands. The changes that actually no one asked for - brilliant.

Removes a good chunk of the gameā€™s emotes.

They claim many things.

I remember not many weeks ago suggesting they might try more emotes and, in particular, animations for them.

My wish was corrupted, as usual. Instead of doing that, they added 4, yes, but without animations, and removed twice as many in the process.

And 3 of them are basically the same thing anyway.

Well itā€™s PTR, so maybe the animations will be coming.

I wonā€™t miss the ones they removed, but thatā€™s just me of course.

Itā€™s not like they affect gameplay, and custom emotes are possible by just typing, so if someone found them harmful Iā€™m totally fine with it.

Would probably have never noticed if it wasnā€™t for wowhead and forums really. :woman_shrugging:

As a matter of facts, the only people who canā€™t use the custom emote to make up for the change are those who may have used the previous emotes offensively cross factionsā€¦.

All true, but as you also also point out this ends up being a waste of resources because it doesnā€™t really change anything at all - and as far as insulting the opposite faction wellā€¦ thatā€™s the point. Youā€™re supposed to be able to do that.

But yes, itā€™s true - it doesnā€™t affect my gameplay. The lack of focus on things that actually matter, however, does.

I wouldnā€™t honestly dare think that these changes took more than a couple of clicksā€¦ but again, thatā€™s just me.

On the other hand, I am extremely pleased with the new customizations coming for allied races in 9.1.5!

The data updates? No, they took no time at all.

But I just made a change at my job and it consisted of adding 7 rows to a table. Took me 2 minutes.

But before that a customer requested it, a business manager looked at it and considered it a good idea, a feature was written describing to me what they wanted, I thought up some programming of what they wanted and found the right place for it, I added the data and a few lines of code, and now the change will be tested, then it will be deployed in a patch at a customer, meaning critical systems restarting, and then finally weā€™re going to tell our other customers that we now have this feature. In Blizzardā€™s case weā€™ve also got the HR involved, several people got fired, huge uproar, 1400 people stopped working, etc.

Do you see whatā€™s happened?

This isnā€™t like someone modelling 400 flowers - you donā€™t have this amount of coordination and communication for each and every flower. But when you want to make changes like thisā€¦ ooooh you canā€™t even imagine how much time has been spent on this. I wouldnā€™t be surprised if weā€™re talking several days for 10 people or more.

Yea this is why you remove players emotes.

You cannot complete a single article withoutā€¦

Iā€™m uncertain I understand why you would feel the need to mention that. Surely we all agree that it was the victimsā€™ right to bring up those issues rather than staying quiet and/or just leave the company themselves?

I love this game so much that Iā€™ve been playing it for 14 years.

Would I love some more content? Yeah.
Is it a pity that for one or another reason we arenā€™t getting that yet? Yeah.
But am I upset or offended it didnā€™t? Nah
Did those emotes etc bother me or will I miss them? Nah.

Seems to me that lifeā€™s that thing happening while youā€™re busy making other plans, and if someone was hurt by the removed content and feels better now thanks to the changes that were made Iā€™m all for it, and I will just wait for more interesting changes for me to come in the future, or eventually evaluate whether the current content is enough for me to stay.

If the game gets too boring I can always take a break and come back whenever something more interesting is added for me.

I took plenty of breaks in 14 years, obviously! No matter how good a game is, thereā€™s no way it could ever keep me hooked daily for that long - and probably I would be worried if it did.

Of course?

Not as long as I, then, but okay?

I wonā€™t miss them personally as I never use them or have them used against me, but I think thereā€™s a certain strength in character when you are being empowered to be awful but choose to be good. If you try to censor that away you infantilise.

Of course thereā€™s a limit to how cruel a player should be allowed to be, but brushing up against someone and farting hardly makes the list.

Any person who feels more safe and supported because /fart was removed from a video game is insane. Yeah, that was direct.

Wellā€¦ letā€™s hope that ever happens.
