I have the same issues. mostely happens when I open the collections tab or transmog. I opened two Ticket about it already but and got the same response to both:
“We know how frustrating it can be when your game crashes, freezes, or just doesn’t perform the way it should especially when you’re ready to jump in and play blah blah…
Try Update Graphics Drivers, Verify Game Files, Disable Background Applications etc”
So basically nothing even though I mentioned in the ticket that I already tried everything.
Season 3 launch but no change, if anything it’s worse, so I raised another in game bug report.
Client version currently 11.2.0.62493
yeah same here for me, never personally had any issues. but since season 3 dropped the new raid gives me driver crashes, played earlier that day with zero issues. did tw raid etc, the moment i was in the new raid i was able to do the first 2 bosses no problem and then bam like ever 5-10 min driver crash, and at very specific points to on a boss we had to redo a couple times. this season is a mess lmao.
Its not a crash for me, but still the game freezes instead and reloads (/reload). Obviously a new bug introduced with season 3.
This problem has preceded season 3 by some 40 days and was introduced by the previous content patch.
If you have been playing all this time without noticing anything wrong, you’ve been in luck, but it isn’t good news hearing that even more players are starting to experience this as well.
Up until now I have experienced only one such crash during gameplay and my personal problems are less severe than what other players in here have described. However, I’m still seeing corrupted textures on character selection screen and they’re triggered by logging out.
Paradoxically more players experiencing the issue and raising bug reports in game, while bad for those of us struggling with it, may actually be a good thing as the more widespread the problem is the more likely it is that it will force Blizzard to take notice and fix it
I posted another video capture to YouTube as it was really bad today.

It’s even worse when it happens during actual gameplay rather than just idling in the central hub. I have pulled this from one of the topics over on US. The user has a machine strong enough to instantly recover from the crash but many others may not be so lucky.

Super fun when it happens during a timed key run.
Afterwards you can either hide your head in shame knowing you’ve wasted 3/4 of an hour for everyone in the party or risk trying to explain in chat what had happened. A hostile exchange is guaranteed to follow including a question why you are playing with a broken PC in first place (lol).
Add salt to the wound half of the group will report you out of spite for something because they will be angry at you and by tomorrow morning you can ask yourself how you ended up silenced and not being able to partake in LFG at all.
Worst I’ve had was soloing a tier 11 delve in season 2 when it froze on the final boss. Thankfully Brann kept me alive long enough that I survived but not fun.
Most of my issues are with transmogs although recently it’s started happening more in the open world mainly on flightpaths or flying so I guess it’s the change in models that’s giving it problems.
As if transmog related crashes aren’t widespread or frequent enough
which is why the maker of the popular PLUMBER quality of life addon made a recent adjustment option for the transmog/collection window to load only 6 preview slots at one time to lessen the initial GPU load and reduce the chance of a crash (these are their words in the tooltip). Not sure how successful it is in preventing these issues completely but it is much more than a billion dollar company has done for us or the game in two months. So far not even a word from them.
Speaking in context of all these crashes (and corrupted textures with failed reloads), there’s one overlooked, relatively recent addition to the patch - the animated player models in the costume sets window.
It’s the same thing as when viewing models on the login screen or in the pop-up transmog window and new problems behind the scenes with it could help explain why players who have not been experiencing similar issues BEFORE these last 10 days of a new patch have just now started reporting problems as well.
I thought it was my graphic card failing on me, then i found this topic. Glad i didn’t buy a new one straight away, always found it strange i only had the ‘failing’ graphics in WoW and nowhere else.
Thats exactly what happens to me. Game freezes for a few seconds then recovers but Event Viewer is showing the nvlddmkm error, I’m literally on the latest Nvidia Driver so idk what the heck is going on. 100% Blizzard issue as I never had this problem prior to 11.2
I’ve been using directX 11 for a while because of this bug, and the problem was solved. Today I switched back to dx12 because I haven’t checked the forums and figured “hey, they must’ve fixed this by now!”.
Nope, after a while game froze for a few seconds, then reloaded all textures. Fwiw, I have a gtx 970, trying different drivers didn’t help.
Dx11 is a viable alternative for users with high end modern machines and they will not be able to observe even a minimal loss in performance in comparison to Dx12, but for everyone else FPS can suffer to such an extent that participating in a raid is out of the question.
This expansion’s raids are poorly optimized so you end up with borderline to completely unplayable amount of FPS. For me personally just standing in an empty city results in almost a 40% drop with nothing significant going on in my view when switching from 12 to 11.
I’m a big fan of the new Karesh not for its layout or content but for how well it runs on just about any toaster. While playing there my PC is full cold, fans are silent, FPS is amazing and memory usage is three times below average of what I’m used to in any other modern zone in the game. I’m not joking when I say it’s using less RAM than abandoned Barrens in Kalimdor at night.
Playing Undermine in combination with the goblin emmisaries event was one of the most frustrating experiences in wow and the number of reports over technical difficulties at that time had spiked to record high.
Now that zone has been largely abandoned, there’s a lot less players complaining. Nothing in fact had changed or improved and we’ve just moved everyone to a less demanding area with much smaller concentration of npcs, objects and players.
Sorry but this is bull ![]()
The FPS loss with DX11 over DX12 on modern Nvidia GPUs is quite alot.
On my 5800X3D with a 4090 i lose like 20 FPS on average.
I would definately recommend using DX12 if you are on Nvidia and have no problems otherwise.
That is because the zone consists mostly of empty space ![]()
Undermine is the opposite of that new zone, it’s densely packed with meshes and NPCs, that’s why it’s heavy on the CPU.
Insane
I lose almost 60 staring at one of the walls in Orgrimmar. At least you aren’t doomed to play a powerpoint presentation.
I was trying to make a point that someone could have have easily reached the wrong conclusion in thinking that all the problems went away on their own when in fact all that the patch had done is incentivize everyone to move away from the single most densely packed zone in the whole game.
Getting the same nvlddmkm error when minimizing the game window. The game just freezes and reloads models/textures after like 5 seconds. Didn’t have this issue before 11.2. Performance seems off too, especially on K’aresh and switching Optional GPU Features off sometimes nearly triples fps
Is this happening to AMD GPUs? I saw the 580.88 Nvidia driver fix some ray tracing artifacts in WoW, maybe they broke something while “fixing” this issue. Has anyone tried to rollback to an older driver? For example from the 570 branch
I don’t know for other AMD users but personally I haven’t had any issues or crashes at all with AMD GPUs and WoW since 2005 up until today.
The only issues I ever have are things AMD borked and fixed, but those never affected WoW only.
Same as with the DX12 never ending loading screen or issue.
But I am still on 6800XT, so maybe that’s why I am not affected by those issues from the past patches as I haven’t updated to 7 or 9 series AMD GPUs.
I find it rather strange though that I never seemed to have any issues at all where as others suffer so much on so many different platforms ![]()
It happens to all regardless of brand or manufacturer. After asking around in a local netcafe if they have noticed anything strange, nvidia appears to be impacted to a higher degree with more frequent occurrences.
The guy running the venue first though the machines were overheating or that someone had hit them by accident because he would only receive poorly worded complaints such as “IT IS NOT WORKING AGAIN” and by the time he would come over to inspect the station, the problem would very likely self-correct so there was nothing to see. Kids today aren’t very tech savvy, they just go with default settings.
Among the older crowd the general consensus was that since recently something isn’t quite right with Dx12 even if they couldn’t fully narrow down and explain exactly what was going on. They would comment only on the game’s poor performance.
I’m guessing everyone here already has done but if you are having these issues raise an in game bug report. The more people that complain the more likely Blizzard will fix it.
I’ve been raising a new report every couple of patches.
