TL;DR: If classic wow was a private server, we wouldn’t be playing on it.
Right now, to most of us that have been playing for several years on pservers for a decade or so - this release seems like a joke. PVP and player-interaction is the only reason to play this game now.
I just have to say that, while I understand that Blizzard wants to only implement changes that they know are in effect in 1.12 that they can verify, that does not create the vanilla feeling we’ve sought after. It does not recreate the experience for us.
My sole wish for any potential “Fresh” server, is that Blizzard retrace patch logs and make every PVE encounter their most difficult version.
Let’s start making a list. If I don’t get em all - spam em in the replies…
- Crafting a lot of items are generally faster (10s per sapper instead of 30s)
- No mind control on boats?
- Layers messing up economy (hello people with 300+ lotuses that will never need to farm ever again, because you have well over 15 000gold)
- Dungeons are a cakewalk
- Spellbatching window subjectively too big.
- Leeway messed up (not from players, from mobs)
- Blizzard’s heartbeat cycle totally screwed up.
- Every scripted event in instances (ZF ladder event, Rend event etc) slow af, we literally do 2-3 pulls inbetween waves to entertain ourselfs.
- MC is a joke - we are considering doing double or even tripple pulls to make it challenging - OR even doing all dogs in 1 pull .
- Shazz doesn’t seem to do CS at all…
- Dogs instantly do their abilities within a single GCD??
- Demo shout needs to be mentioned.
- Onyxia is a joke - She is 100% clearly bugged, due to the aggro issues EVERYONE is having in p2/p3 transition. Also, give us conflagurate back on the fireballs please.
- Willing to bet my left nut that dal’rend mainhand droprate is wrong.
- Blinking or getting feared and getting hardstuck into objects is thing.
- Incorrect Drop tables in MC (flameguard, onslaught, RECIPES!!)
- Agility enchants in game, skewing the meta
Overall the game feels unpolished, uncertain, wonky, unresponsive.
And that’s by comparing it to youtube footage of the game 14-15 years ago. And frankly, if it wasn’t for the sole reason that we want to be a part of the hype and support Blizzard in doing this we would be gone.
But please, Blizzard - Realize who you are trying to please, and what we have been asking for… The Private Server we left behind, and shut down for you, didn’t have any of these issues - it was objectively a better product, and it was free.
The only hope right now is that AQ and Naxx isn’t a complete cakewalk - cuz BWL 100% is going to be.

Imagine claiming onyxia is bugged based on private server data.
People who made nost core asked blizzard if they got onyxia right the first chance they got.
And the answer was no

Can you stop quoting stupid youtube interviews?
We KNOW that Onyxia is supposed to have a wing buffet on the MT, it works.
We KNOW that Onyxia used to have a conflagurate effect on fireball that was patched out later.
We have NEVER seen any old video clips where HALF THE RAID dies due to no tank being able to get threat during P3 transition. It’s either the same tank as in P1 or a 2nd tank. <-- This is what is happening right now.
Edit: And to clarify, what you are quoting is in reference to how deep breath used to work - not onyxia herself.

At least you have very close to authentic environment where you could test everything and get some numbers you weren’t possible to get before.
You are 100% correct here. I’m very happy seeing Ironfoe being terribad, amongst other things.
Yes, it’s quite a way from private servers. But it’s also a blizzard official release of classic. I’d like to see the private server tuning too and the bugs fixed, but the fact that we have this at all is absolutely excellent.
Can’t particularly say I disagree with much of what you listed, but hey, it’s better than nothing
Sure, but if it was a new private server that was opening - you would rather stay on the one you were playing before…
Right?

It might just not be possible. Obviously public logs do not contain everything. And we have no idea about their internal data. As they claim to possess only latest build, those internal logs might be lost as well. I don’t think that they took the path of least resistance, but they rather took a path of most verifiable authenticity. They can try to recreate anything, but without reference environment they can never be sure whether they got it right. The amount of issues in Classic demonstrates that.
So the only reasonable approach would be to retune dungeons and raids. And that will divide the community, that’s for sure. Some people will want authentic numbers, some people will want authentic feelings. They’ve chosen the “safe” way. Some people will be happy: those, who don’t seek particular challenge and just want to have social fun.

I agree with the layering issue in combination with the Lotus. They were warned beforehand that it would happen…

Sure that’s always an option. But I would rather play on Blizzard’s services.
I’m not saying I’ll leave and stop playing Classic, I won’t. I’m just saying that the private servers objectively delivered a better product. Which really shouldn’t be the case.
Pservers are free to overtune things, here you’d get hate from #nochances purists if blizz tried to buff or change stuff.
Overall, biggest reason to avoid pserver; everytime new ‘fresh’ realm opens, masses flock there like a sheep leaving old servers half-dead and maybe more possibly closing down soon after.
Apart from maybe 1 or 2 big names that has some staying force, but then you’d deal with ppl being able to buy epics and rank 14 chars with real money “under the table”.

I’m always wary of any posts that claims to speak on behalf of more than just the poster.

I doubt there’s a concensus.
The main advantage a private server had was that blizzard didnt provide the service. The second thing I personally liked is that it was multinational, so I could play with the US, EU, Asia depending on the time.
There’s obviously flaws with Classic but im pretty damn sure private servers were far worse overall.

Get off your high horse and return to your shady Pservers.

I’m enjoying it
Main part I hate is the spellbatching.
Otherwise, it’s just like classic was back in 1.12
Where do you geT “No mind control on boats” from?
I always mind control people on boats, it’s entertaining as hell

People wanted Vanilla experience, they got it in a form of Classic. Blizz will not focus on balancing 1.12 patch to make content more difficult. Vanilla was (raid-wise) extremely easy compared to current raid mechanics, accept that.
Blizzard won´t waste resources and manpower to develop Classic.
Private servers modifying content to keep their playerbase challenged doesn´t mean Blizz will do that too. You want PvE challenge? Go play retail.
They aren’t modifying it to make it challening? They are modifying it to be as close as possible to the pre-nerfed state of the instance - to represent something as close to the challenge present at release of the raid.
It’s currently something close to doing 8.1 raid with 8.2 gear currently on retail - pretty easy.
