Honestly, if you can’t decypher it it probably has no meaning to you anyway. It was a very small-scale thing.
I’m not sure if I understand what you mean. I can’t speak for everyone else, obviously, but I don’t make any assumptions at all about the way people may react when I try to interact with them. It’s pointless because you can’t really know, and the fact you don’t know how a character will react is exactly what makes it fun to approach them in the first place. If I already knew it wouldn’t be spontaneous, after all.
If someone whispers me ooc asking me wtf I think I’m doing trying to rp with them without asking them first, I apologise (sidenote: how ridiculous is that. That I apologise for trying to roleplay with someone on a roleplay server. I can’t, honestly) for bothering them and move on (and probably wont interact with them again).
Why? Just keep RPing at them. Break them.
Honestly I wouldn’t be apologizing to someone like that at all.
If someone approaches me for random roleplay and they haven’t filled out and notarised the official application form, I am well within my rights to ask them what they think they’re playing at
Ohlin essentially said what I wanted to say, but this thing with “rules of engagement” (lol) is utterly bizarre to me. If we’re talking about emote fights, that’s one thing, but what rules could possibly exist that make regular interactions impossible? That just sounds like someone is unwilling to RP with certain characters, which isn’t anything to be concerned about at all.
Gets even better when a person you approach doesnt respond to you at all, while you can clearly see they are not afk because they were looking at characters earlier, then a moment later when another person shows up they suddenly become alive. That or they end up not talking to anyone for a whole evening.
Edit: And yes, when you wish to fight or harm someone, might be a good idea to ask beforehand ( unless the char you see is doing something that warrants intervention) but when you just wish to initiate rp with someone I dont see why you should ask permission at all.
It gets even more funny when they put approachable in their trp yet turn out to be anything but.
I saw it in someone’s roleplay addon once. It was like a note stating they were not interested in unplanned, random rp.
Fair enough to them, mind you. You pay for this game so you play it however you want, but I did wonder why. Terrible experiences maybe?
I’m working on something similar for SW for players like yourself — keep an eye out and get involved!
I remember a time when RP used to be good, mainly due to the fact we focused on the lore, and the chronicles. Sadly many RP characters on WoW are inspired by Game of Thrones characters, which really sucks. I don’t mind if a few people don’t like the high fantasy that WoW has to offer, but to ignore it is stupid. Game of Thrones is very good. That said, I would hate for WoW to try to be more like it; the two properties are extremely different in pretty much every way, from tone to setting to the level of fantasy (Game of Thrones is very low fantasy, while Warcraft is very high fantasy).

RP is still good. There are hundreds of awesome roleplayers on AD. You just need to have the motivation to go out there and find them.
Tarring everyone with a ‘Game of Thrones’ brush is unaccurate and unfair. My name theft is purely because I thought it sounded cool [sweats]

Name five.

I don’t think anyone has an issue with random individuals approaching. What I commonly see getting complained about is guilds who use the intimidation of numbers as a psychological effect, kind of like hidden Power RP, trying to “force” a specific reaction from the (mind, very much overwhelmed) player. In the past, this has been a major issue on both faction sides. If you accept, they get their will, if you decline, they can kind of shttalk you, make you look bad or call you out as a bad rp’er.
Is it naming-and-shaming if it’s naming-and-praising?
No, i’ve named and praised loads of times and not got any punishment.

One thing I hate about guilds, they always think they hold some sort of power over others, its funny when you just say no and ignore their “power”. they become helpless and do anything they can to try and look strong.
Hmm, okay. I’ll take this seriously.
So that I avoid favouritism, I won’t choose anyone from a guild that I’m currently in:
- Clovus
- Acrona/Manata
- Talenthiel
- Fearless
- Albanus
It was more difficult to narrow it down, so I chose five that came to mind, and aren’t necessarily my top 5.
Manata
I’ve met Manata, proper lad/lass, I’ll except that as proof.
Clovus
you’re making me blush

Yeah and then they ignore you back and with them being a guild (many) and you being one guy (few) that is basically a far worse deal for you
That is BTW a mentality that has done a lot of damage to this server’s RP infrastructure - people are so eager to " own " someone by denying their " power " (aka. presumably the position they are RPing their character having in good faith ) and think that them breaking character and spoiling the purely IC nature of an interaction is somehow commendable / something they should proudly boast about on the forums
In fact, it is almost always the mark of a lower order roleplayer
