BFA made me quit the game. It’s the only expansion I’ve 100% skipped so far.
It was Legion on steroids. Doubling down on everything that was wrong about its predecessor.
The only problems I have had is the removal of Gladiator stance from warrior and that Prot Pally does the damage of a wet noodle. Ret is actually good now, though a bit button bloated. Then of course monk in BfA. I’ve never quit WoW, just taken long breaks, and it was never because they messed my class up so much but I can relate to how incredibly frustrating and disheartening it must be. I think I was close in SL because of Paladin issues but honestly I forget half the time…
Had a look at it.
Not my thing, honestly.
I’ve never been a fan of those ‘ring fight’ things Blizzard did.
And the PvP part of it is of zero interest to me.
I get that. Unfortunately I don’t really have a solution to offer.
But that’s the thing: I enjoyed Legion Monk design. It was the only time in WoW when I liked playing Mistweaver. I could have even enjoyed playing Brewmaster because the gameplay itself was pretty fun, but I simply don’t enjoy tanking in any way, shape or form.
I have not liked the changes they made to the class after Legion.
So I haven’t really done much on my Monk alt since Legion (I leveled it up to 60 a few months back to unlock the leather transmog you can get in the Waking Shores - but that was all, and I did so using brewmaster because I really don’t enjoy the mistweaver playstyle anymore).
What this does say is that you don’t really like Mistweaver. You enjoyed it only in the one expansion where it was the most generic, and the most like “other healers”.
You enjoyed it when it was the least true to its identity.
It’s okay that you don’t like the spec.
But at the same time, you can’t deny that it was heavily homogenized, as evidenced by the many examples I listed.
Well, each to their own. That’s when I liked it the most.
I don’t think it was. But then again, I experience the game quite different than you do.
Also: I hadn’t played a healing class since TBC at that time.
I’ve played hunter for the vast vast majority of my time in WoW.
Let’s see:
- Channeling spells through a beam: Completely unique to MW, removed
- Using stances as a healer: Completely unique to MW, removed
- Using a combo point system as a healer: Completely unique to MW, removed
- Mana Tea: Turned into a copy of Innervate
- Having an execute spell as a healer, completely unique to MW, removed
How can you deny that the spec was homogenized?
It’s not a “feeling” or an “experience”, it’s an objective list of things that happened.
It very much IS an experience. For ME it was not homogenized.
It’s like telling Person A the taste of ‘drink X’ was changed.
But Person A had never had that drink before. To them this IS what the drink is.
It very much is a matter of perspective.
From your perspective: Yes, it was homogenized.
But I don’t share your perspective. I never knew the class/spec as anything else.
Just because they discovered the drink like this doesn’t change the fact that it has changed.
They discovered it after it has changed. But it has changed.
Which is why I’m describing it to you. I’m giving you a list of unique mechanics that it had, and that were completely unique to it. No other healers had those.
Removing them was, therefore, homogenization. It made Mistweaver less unique.
You don’t need to have played Mistweaver with 2 stances to acknowledge that it is indeed pretty unique for a healer, do you?
I’m the wrong guy to ask, honestly. I saw health bars and I filled them up.
That’s what a healer is to me. A bar watching game.
If you want me to say you’re right in that it was homogenized; sure, I’ll say it.
It doesn’t mean anything to me though.
All I know is that I liked the mistweaver gameplay during Legion.
And I didn’t enjoy it afterwards.
That’s my entire assessment of the spec.
I’m a hunter main. If you want to talk about hunters I can get into much, much more detail.
Hopefully the new survival game is good. It looks like they’re making some good changes to D4 as well, I think D4 can be really good in a few seasons it just needs time to cook.
Hearthstone is still fun to play, it’s just way too expensive. Maybe if they make a sequel for it that has better monetization it could be great.
Hots is still a really fun game that is just abandoned. It’s genuinely one of the best MOBAs out there, it just needs a bit of love.
Idk why they’ve abandoned Starcraft IP. Even if RTS’ aren’t popular anymore, the IP has a ton of hype around it. They could make some amazing games with it. Same with the Warcraft IP tbh, they could do more with it.
Overwatch idk how it is, it never interested me so i’m not playing it. I thought i’d try out the PvE, but seeing it canned killed any interest I had in the game.
Make Warcraft: Fractured Timeways!
What that is? An idea of a Left4Dead-type game I brought several times up, similar to Warhammer Vermintide 2 with original characters (with at least customization options for them) that have to help the Bronze Dragonflight to defeat and clear the most dangerous fissures appearing in the most dystopian timelines.
Including specific classes (for each race) from WoW with a limited, distinctive skill set to make you sweat in class fantasy while playing.
Due to the setting, so many different levels could be created with so many different enemy factions/versions of them (even if they recycle the rigs and animation and such).
Make it bloody. Make it gory. Make it Warcraft, Blizzard!
Oh and they surely could add a lot of paid customization options to that game, if manage to make it both 1st person and 3rd Person playable, alongside with having Cutscenes for pivotal moments, featuring the player characters.
I’m actually fearful that I’ll like the setting/aesthetic.
I don’t want to. Because I HATE survival games.
I got ‘lured’ into Overwatch because I really liked its aesthetic and world and character design. But I don’t like shooters. So I was fed up with that game rather fast.
EDIT: Slapface, wrong character.
We can. Survival is the only specialization I thought was made better by Legion.
I got to 2100 rating with it back then, and I got a neat Elite set out of it, which I think looks pretty cool: https://worldofwarcraft.blizzard.com/en-gb/character/eu/kazzak/tabouret
Ironically, Legion Survival eventually got the “Legion treatment” in BFA, where 30% of all its spells and mechanics were removed from the game and oversimplified.
I like the IDEA of the melee survival spec more than I liked their EXECUTION of the idea.
I think that spec still needs work. Among other things: It needs a dual wielding option, imo.
I did enjoy it more than MM though. But I haven’t liked MM in many years.
The big thing though is: Neither SV nor MM get even close to being as fun as BM is to me.
The execution was flawless in Legion, in my opinion.
Lacerate, Caltrops, Throw Hatchets…Such savagery. I really loved that gameplay.
Now they gave it Kill Command? It’s a half-BM spec now? I don’t get it.
All melee classes should be able to use all melee weapons without any impact on performance in my opinion.
Might as well go with full customization, we’re well past the point of lore restrictions by now.
I hate survival games so completely uninterested, I imagine it will gain popularity through others though.
D4 isn’t as good as D3 for me. It’s just too unnecessarily gory and the “end game” seems pointless. Plus no Paladin apparently, boo. Still, if people enjoy it.
I can’t play Hearthstone for the life of me but that’s my problem. It’s a shame.
I did actually like HoTS, I am rubbish at LoL and was great at this with friends but naturally they abandoned it because MUH E-SPORTS
I’d like an up to date Starcraft game to play as I have never played it or Warcraft. Again, I am a rubbish gamer.
Overwatch is FPS and PvP. I was intruiged when they mentioned PvE but they bombed it so I’ll never touch it which again is a real shame because the art is beautiful and I’m always up for a new world and lore.
I want a Warcraft RPG that’s like Skyrim.
And my Pet Battle mobile game, bring it back!
Yeah. It’s lost part of its identity.
Of course there’s many people who just want SV to go back to being a ranged spec. To them it lost its identity in Legion.
But if BM wasn’t such fun for me, I’d probably be playing SV right now.
That’d be great.
I’d like a (new) tabletop RPG in the Warcraft universe as well!
Pre-Legion Survival was Marksmanship reskin.
Few differences here and there, but 85% of shared DNA.
If queue times weren’t instant as a healer, I’d probably be playing a bunch of DPS specs.
Sadly, I can’t be bothered waiting so much before I can do something in this game.
I’ve definitely enjoyed a few survival games. Group survival games like Raft & The Forest were extremely fun to play with my friends. Solo ones like The Long Dark was also very fun. Idk how they plan on doing it though. Basically all of their games are live service ones, idk how they’d do that with a survival game if they plan on going down that route.
Hopefully they’ll show us something about it at Blizzcon, I think there’s definitely potential.
D4 is definitely lacking endgame rn, but the changes they’ve made recently have all been good ones. I don’t think the game is good rn or that it will be good next season, but it has a ton of potential.
As for the gore, I honestly wish it was even more gory & bleak. They could’ve been way edgier with it, but I wont complain too much about that.
I think HOTS kinda came out at the wrong time. While the esports aspect of League is still appealing to millions, I think there’s a much bigger market for a more casual MOBA right now than there was when it initially came out.
I believe that HOTS can end up being the Counter-Strike: Source of MOBAs. Just a really casual & fun version of CS that focused way more on fun game modes than it did being a super serious esport. Maybe with Microsoft taking over they’ll dedicate some resources to it.
I would love a game like Darktide, but with a heavier emphasis on story and with a more in-depth campaign+RPG elements on top of it set in the Starcraft universe. Or a game like Space Marine set in the Starcraft universe.
At this point i’ll take anything. Starcraft is one of my favourite universes and it’s so sad that they’ve just completely abadoned the IP.
I also want that. Although more akin to the Witcher 3 as I think it had more mature themes. I don’t think i’d enjoy an RPG if it had the same story direction Dragonflight does. The emphasis on “wholesome & cutesy” stuff really isn’t my cup of tea.
Maybe Microsoft buys CDPR next and has them create a new RPG with using the WoW or Diablo IP
It was a nice break from the real world but overall a little too huggy for me. I love me some cute stuff but not too much. I’d like a better balance. For an RPG yes I would expect it to be more serious with maybe a few things like if you had a house you could get some cute plushies or something, nothing too big. As I said, I think a pet battle mobile game would be great and that could be cute as can be. It has it’s area.
