The War Within Season 2 Mythic+ Updates Ahead

I finally started on TWW tonight with my daughter and the tank friend, we may dip our toes in M0 for fun. It won’t be a carry (like, at all lol) but you’d be more than welcome to join in the mayhem

That’s absolutly great to hear they listend to feedback! Getting my excitement back for s2! GJ Blizz!

Because Blizzard do not respond to feedback they respond to engagement metrics.

What a lovely set of changes. It’s interesting, that you can now almost complete end-game gear by running +7s, which are essentially equal in difficulty to Heroic dungeons from Shadowlands and BfA.

Can’t wait to get all my alts fully geared! Game On!

Weightlifting is good example.
After some time you get used to a certain weight, so you raise the bar.
Same can be said about wow diff.
Over the year i played a lot at the begining i was complete noob wiping on normal raid and HC dungeons in cata.
Now normal raids provide ZERO challange no stimulation to my brain
so i go into m+ and i need to do m+ at least on +10 key otherwise i’m bored.

I think that’s why people are trying to go higher with diff
it’s the wiring of a brain in a certain way.

Same as with ADHD you not sick or ill you just have differently wired brain.

I find that difficultly is an important part of success, as a high chance of failure increases the positive I feel when I succeed, provided of course the difficulty can be overcome by skill rather than for example gambling odds which aren’t fun at all.

I get it with stuff like that. Just not with gaming.

I love that feeling. So relaxing.
I suppose it’s the way I find some quiet. My brain is always on; always being creative and wanting to create and learn. Gaming for me is a break from that.
And when I don’t need that ‘quiet’, I’d rather multitask. To me that’s more interesting than intensely focusing on one thing.

Fair. I don’t have that after a difficult activity in a game; all I feel is relief that that’s finally over and anger towards the game for putting me through that.

But, I feel like I’ve derailed this thread enough. By all means, discuss the M+ changes!

Then you may have reached the difficulty you are looking for. If anything harder upsets you then there is no point in trying it.

Sometimes I don’t want to play anything hard, so I play eurotruck sim :joy:

It’s obvious what I meant. Post edited for clarity though

The issue most glaring and frustrating with the current system is not adressed by these changes at all, imho:
If you are a solo DPS player with average gear and low rating trying to get into the system, you have a very hard/impossible time getting into groups. Your main access to keys is your own keystone.

Despite the changes outlined in the article, there will always be a floor M+ level “the community” wants to run. In S1 it was mainly +8 or +10. +8 for Gilded Crests if you were not comfortable with the difficulty of +10, or +10 if you wanted Myth in the weekly vault and could manage the difficulty. With the changes outlined here this will likely move to +7/+10.

Here is the problem: If +7 is the lowest level you can get a group together in a reasonable amount of time (and with reasonably experienced players) and your own keystone is the only thing you have to offer, you are completely screwed if that stone is depleted to +6 and nobody wants to run +6 keys.

What are your options in that situation? If you do not have friends or a community to pick you up and help you out, you are looking at a major time investment trying to get a group for that +6 stone (which does not award the reward you were originally after) and to even get a +7 key to start out with next week you will then have to play another dungeon on top.

So instead of playing just the one +7 dungeon you wanted to play you are now faced with:

  1. Failed/maybe disbanded +7 run
  2. Time investment to get a group together for +6 which does not offer the rewards you are after + hoping that group actually beats the dungeon in-time
  3. Play the new +7 key afterwards just to have a key to start out with next week

My point should be obvious: For a solo DPS player with average gear and low rating losing your own key is just too punishing. The changes outlined in this article do not adress that.
Imho keys simply should not deplete at all and instead the higher reward penalty for failing the timer should be brought back. Yes, that may increase the likelihood of players quitting a dungeon. Still, that would be less punishing, imho, than the current outlook when losing your own key as a solo DPS player.

Although its a step in the right direction, it wont “save” M+. During the progression phase when you can still deplete the key, people are still going to be scared to pick someone. You will still spend hours in a queue trying to get into a dungeon. For pugs this changes nothing. I’ve said it over and over, Blizzard need to get rid of keystones and allow players to select a difficulty like in Delves. If you’ve timed a +10, then you can attempt an 11 as many times as you want till you’ve timed it, then a +12 becomes available. It will completely remove the fear of wiping and depleting a key. It should decrease toxicity, improve queue times and just provide a better experience overall in M+.

I wish I could like this post twice!
I completely agree that these changes wont “save” M+ for the average pug player. It may improve for streamers or pros that don’t struggle to get into good groups at all.

The feeling of depleting a key is what kills m+ for me. I then have to do a lower key that means absolutely nothing to me and if I time it, then it generates a random dungeon keystone, meanwhile I had a +12 for SV initially and that’s the dungeon I need to time.

Its a complete time waste and not a fun experience at all. The solution is simple and a mechanic that already exists. Add a stone to each dungeon and allow players to select the difficulty they want to attempt. GET RID OF KEYS! If you’ve timed a 10, then you can select an 11 and so on. Its not that hard!

It will remove long queues, remove fear of depleting, decrease dungeon community toxicity and most importantly, improve the game experience and fun factor.

So we return to tanks beign immortals, healers need to dps, except when heal party for unavoidable dmg.

Not saying tww s1 was so amazing, but replace one bad with another is not the correct option.

Should find the balance between the 2.

Gearing changes are good, but the 3k score to get mount is meh. All +12 timed would make perfect sense for it (that was around 2850).

Actual W, might care to get into the season this time around.

Well, M0s will supposedly be harder, so you will see boss mechanics there.

And I’m personally still very happy about the removal of weekly Affixes; we have dungeons changeing seasonally, that’s more than enough variety for me. Weekly Affixes just lead to annoying dead weeks to skip some of them that were unbearable, resulting in even longer wait times for tanks or healers in those weeks.

All in all looking quite nice; seems I’ll be able to stick to 6-7 next season to get my myth tints the easierst way. DF says hello; we only had to take a step backwards to improve the situation…

While i definitely understand your point, you have to keep in mind that Blizzard has never and will never design m+ with pugs in mind. They have even mentioned this before, m+ is aimed at premade groups and will be designed as such, so while puggable, you cant expect them to cater to pugs.
I agree, there will definitely still be big issues in lower pug levels but at this point that getting fixed is a fever dream…

It wouldn’t surprise me if at some point they’ll cave on this, because the facts are so many people do pug it. At the same time I have the impression they do it for good reasons, to at least give people an incentive here and there for socialising, making friends, running guilds etc, and to allow for a genuinely challenging game format. Either way, they’re still sticking to their guns at this moment so the advice will also be the same as it has been. I’d try find a Community if you regularly want to M+

Seemingly great changes! For sure I’ll give S2 a chance after skipping S1 entirely.
