The War Within: we summon too much stuff

I keep watching videos of TWW hero talents and something bugs me:

Nearly every specialization passively summons stuff in combat.

  • Monks summon spirits of Yu’lon, Chi’ji and Niuzao
  • Shamans summon ancestral spirits.
  • Warlocks of all specializations summon various demons.
  • Death Knights summon horsemen.
  • Mages summon a phoenix.
  • Hunters, obviously, summon a bunch of animals.

And nearly all of those are just passive effects baked into already existing abilities, or RNG procs.
It’s too much. The visual clutter will be insane and it doesn’t add much gameplay wise. Homogenization is also becoming a concern here.
All in all, I’m not a fan of all the summoning that’s happening right now in TWW. Maybe that’s just me though.

Thoughts?

These are the only hero talents I actually like - bar the mage one, though now I am interested.
They are not summoning everything at once, either. It’s on rotation. Can you not handle demolocks?

I think in M+ I already have to glue my eyes to my character to spot the one visible pixel of a oneshot-mechanic that’s covered by 3 puddles and 5 flashing balls.

I appreciate the effort from the graphics team, but I’d prefer to have some option that lets me hide or tone down my own/friendly effects. I know the game supposedly has it, but they do nothing.

I think you have a valid point. It’s bad enough just now doing events where there’s hundreds of players, can’t see anything for anything, but if all of them are also summoning things too then that’s just going to be beyond playable for me at least. It will also just by more things to create lag.

Just done the cooking event, at least a hundred people doing it - got to legendary (8), couldn’t see anything and ended just standing there most of it doing nothing.

Yeah, I’ve only read the Shaman one and wasn’t too inspired by it.

Not only does it not add much gameplay wise it removes some control we already have. I’ve been running Dragon Soul for years now and some of my alts with either Starter Talents or Cookie Cutter talents do weird AoE type attacks that kill the tanacles before I want them.
These summon features will be like this, when you want a simple single target hit you’ll end up with some AoE or Dot doing stuff I don’t really want.

It has always been insane. A bit more won’t hurt it any further when it was already :poop: to read combat to begin with.

I’m not sure.
Having the Four Horsemen aiding you looks cool at first, but I think it could become annoying in the end.
Personally, the main incentive to pick Rider of the Apocalypse is the ability to use the death charger for 10 seconds like paladins.
There are a few talents involving D&D that I don’t like, so… I don’t know.
I’ll see once I test it in-game, but I can always go with Deathbringer, which doesn’t force me to stay in one spot to cleave.

And i will summon a mod very soon apparently >.>

I agree. If we’d be talking about extra stuff only getting summoned every 2 minutes during a big CD, fine. But it seems a lot of hero talent summoned stuff will appear multiple times per minute.

That feral druid hero talent that spawns gigantic thorny vines on enemies looks so distacting. We won’t see enemy mobs clearly if they’re all covered in those weird spiky balls nearly all the time.

The gigantic blue voidweaver orb will probably also get really annoying because it covers up a lot of space.

You truly live on these forums, do you? 3+ threads made the past day(s).

I know this is a subject that’s come up time and again on the forums, and it was at least a couple of years ago I made a suggestion that we are able to control friendly visual clutter.

For example healing rain, I need to see the outskirt of the circle, but not the infill, or the new monk ground visual. Just the outline and not a load of the infill.

Mage combustion and pyro’s exploding on the target or targets, firewall etc etc.

It is all way too much. Out of all the visual clutter Spirit link is about the best looking. It has a ring with nothing in the middle. You know what it is, what it does, where the boundary is.
On the same token I think DH sigils too are extremely modest when placed. You see a brief visual where its placed which then disappears and a mild translucent burst when it goes off.

Likewise I wonder, do we need to see pets properly ? Wouldn’t it be nice if we could have a setting for turning a friendlies pet to say 10% or 20% translucent. So you see a faded image of where they are, but nothing that would compare to see a character, or an enemy or a bid bad on the floor you need to soak or get out of.

I can only speak for monk, but i love it myself

Desk jobs have their perks.

those are rookie numbers :dracthyr_blob_dance_animated:

No. -_-

Demo locks basically made me quit PvP. I HATE them.

Oh absolutely, I’m on here a (bit) too much as well, but I just participate and rarely make my own threads.

Offtopic but do you know reddit? :stuck_out_tongue:

Yes, I’m IP banned from Reddit. I like Twitter better.

I kid you not I got permanently banned from r/wow for making my first thread there, where I explained why I thought Legion wasn’t a great expansion.

Whats Twitter ??? o.O

It’s this thing people keep calling ex-twitter.
