Key Sections:
- Gear Issues: PvP gear imbalance ruins BG experience after the first weeks of a season.
- Premades: Premade groups create a huge gap in BGs, making matches unfair.
- Solo Shuffle: Great system, balances players by skill and gear, but toxic players remain a problem.
- MMR Problems: MMR system in random BGs and Blitz needs improvement to avoid unfair matches.
- Most Important: Solo queue is necessary, and it helps reduce interaction with toxic players.
I’ve been playing WoW for many years, but I won’t go on about how much better things used to be.
I want to focus on my current impression. I left the game during Shadowlands and didn’t even bother buying or playing Dragonflight. Instead, I moved over to EvE Online and had some awesome PvP experiences. But that’s a different game, right? So, why did I leave WoW? Because I remember world PvP when people actually walked (or rode their mounts) to dungeons.
As far back as I can remember, I’ve always played PvP, and in my opinion, the best PvP was in Legion. But… this isn’t about that. For those who want to bash me and say I can’t PvP, I’ll admit: yes, you’re right. My max rating was 1600 since RBG was released (starting in Cataclysm, which, by the way, is my favorite expansion). I’m not claiming to be a Gladiator… yet.
1) Gear
I always enjoyed PvP and battlegrounds, but let’s talk about Shadowlands. In SL, they made PvP almost impossible to enjoy. Outside of Legion, BGs have always had two major problems: gear imbalance and gear rush. By the second or third week of the season, it already feels pointless farming honor for starter gear. Even after you get some, the PvP experience is ruined because players already outgear you massively. The cap system helps, but it doesn’t fully solve the issue.
So, BGs already suck. I played a lot of BGs because you didn’t need a rating for them, and once the cap was done, you could get gear. But some players do world PvP or raids and are super skilled. I’d go into a BG as Horde, and we’d win with a huge difference—like 50+ HKs on our side and 7 on the Alliance. Next BG? Complete reversal. We’d have 10 HKs, and the Alliance would have 50+. What do these numbers tell us? First, gear mismatch. Second, skill mismatch. Also, premade groups. I’ve played in premades of 4 people, and we just annihilated the enemy. We locked them in the graveyard for fun while the Druid capped the flag three times without any resistance. Honestly, I don’t enjoy that.
New System
I had an epiphany yesterday. After a losing streak in Blitz, I decided to try something new and joined Solo Shuffle. WOW! What an amazing system. And Blitz is great by design, too. But… the implementation? Not so much.
First off, arenas. There’s a huge amount of toxic players trying to compete in Solo Shuffle… which is silly. But okay, just ignore them. Solo Shuffle itself is a great example of how skirmishes should work, and the same goes for Blitz. It’s like a solo battleground with a good attempt to equalize things. I love that when I’m at 1400, I’m playing against similarly skilled and geared players. Even the losses are awesome because they’re balanced fights. Give or take.
But random BGs? Complete garbage! And Blitz could turn into garbage, too, because of the MMR system and the rating gain/loss mechanics. From 0 to 1600, it’s a nightmare, especially if you don’t hit 1600+ quickly. By the second or third week of the season, it feels like the game is telling you to stop and wait for the next season—or go do PvE.
Conclusion
I don’t have all the answers, but I believe that if they did the following, things would improve:
Introduce separate queues for random solo players and random premades, similar to Blitz and RBGs. Then, developers could create algorithms to average out item levels and match players based on gear, achievements (because they at least show players understand BGs), and current rating. This would be a solid solution. If you have a full PvE party, they should fight similar players and have fun, while PvP lovers get matched with equally skilled opponents.
I really enjoy the game, and I like to mix PvP with PvE (in Shadowlands, it was Torghast, and in TW, Delves). But come on, Blizzard, do the math! It’s not that difficult, and it would make the game better. Just imagine: some old players might return, and new PvP-focused players might actually stick around.
Most Important!
WoW really needs a solo queue for random BGs as well as rated ones because the amount of toxic players is higher than I remember—even more than in Shadowlands. I’ve had to disable private conversations because so many “gladiators” with a rating of 700+ in Solo Shuffle keep calling me a noob… Russians are another issue; they’re always rude and offensive. Why doesn’t Blizzard use AI to detect toxic behavior in chat and deal with it? I play on an RP server, but in Orgrimmar, it feels like everyone’s from everywhere, and BGs are full of toxic players. I constantly see people bullying others for an unlucky fight or a simple mistake.
P.S. Please if you don’t understand that keep in mind english not my born language, so instead to offend me, try use AI maybe… I’ve tried make it good. And I wanna that Blizzard read this. That’s all.
