Too many buttons

https://www.curseforge.com/wow/addons/btwloadouts

Maybe this helps?

Yes I know - more addons. What are you gonna do…

Features

  • Create talent, pvp talent, essence, soulbinds, equipment sets, and action bars
  • Combine sets into loadouts to switch them at once
  • Add conditions to prompt to switch loadouts in different situations, for example equipping special items for specific bosses
  • Drag loadouts to your action bars

in mop we had nearly 70 buttons and the pop wasnt declining
the pruning however when they removed half toolkits of all classes was the start

Jesus christ this thread is toxic. returning player struggling with the absolute disco that is current actionbars players: “wow, youre so bad, git gud noob and go play something thats not wow”… and these same people wander why the player base plummets each year.

Also, we have never had 70 buttons, i don’t think many of you know how many 70 is.

70 binds including all the macros for pvp that was
at least as affli
and i wasn’t even using arena123 macros back then kek

This all comes down to playstyle, in theory they could make mythic and raids only use 3-4 abilities max if they want you to, like you do 200% more damage with those abilities and nerf everything else when you enter the instance (so you don’t need them), this way you could not use any excess you don’t want to, and maybe out of 3 mobility you could use only 1 and others are banned in those modes, this equal to fewer buttons.

…and pvp is an entirely different beast, people there will try to min max things (skill-wise) as they get better at understanding the game.

Ignore the negative replies. Hopefully you can find some other classes to try.

I do use more keybindings than Heramaar to play my Paladin but even so you might want to give it a try.

You may find class trials useful just to see how they feel on a target dummy. DH is always memed the most for having the least abilities.

Let us know how you get on.

From what I remember there were regular threads on it tho, with plenty of complaints, and plenty of ‘git gud’ retorts. Times don’t change it seems

There’s a reason the prune happened. People asked for it.

And the prune was a good idea, just not executed very well.

EDIT: This thread is a perfect encapsulation of what happens when a new player joins the game and also a perfect representation of why my position on it is the right one. Sue me!

Evoker (any spec)
Hunter (BM/MM)
Warrior (fury/arms)
Warlock (destro)
Mage (Frost)
Death Knight (Frost)

Any of those. You can get away with less than 10 buttons. The other 10 are defensives/utility which judging by the average player, you don’t really use until 3K io.

Just the core rotation has 50% more than that.
Ice Nova
Ice Lance
Frostbolt
Flurry
Glacial Spike
Cone of Cold
Ray of Frost
Frozen Orb
Blizzard
Comet Storm
Frost Nova (for shatters)
Pet nova (called Freeze)
For PvP in addition:
Ring of Fire
Frost Bomb

And he won’t get +20’s done when using no defensives or utilities, that much I can promise. Unless he buys a boost I guess.

Can we stop it with this?! Please? If he actually follows your advice he’ll have wasted a lot of time and have little left to show for it.

I can pull 500K DPS with just Frozen Orb, Comet, Blizzard, Flurry, Glacial Spike, and Lance.

How often do you really use Fbolt, nova, Ray of Frost (Sorry are we calling Bestial Wrath and other 1-2 minute cooldowns rotations as well)?

Ring of Fire? LOL sorry didn’t realise this was a PvP post. Same with cone of cold.

You say stop oversimplifying it, I say stop overcomplicating it. No one cares about PvP and even if we did, frost mage is probably the easiest caster to play in the game, almost everything is instacast and incredibly easy to kite with.

I am around +13’s now on my frost DK and i am spamming my stun/pull utility and my cheeseing anti magic defensive  Without i would be nowhere.

Then you are a great one. I was healing 23s/24s last season and I would see an AMZ maybe once in 30 minutes.

Wasnt talking about anti magic zone. That isn’t even in the prefered talent tree in subcreation. I was talking about the personal anti magic barrier. It is really good.

Sorry, but if you are playing arenas, you’re sh*t out of luck. In PvE you can stand out by your positioning. In arenas, you stand out by utilizing your spec’s toolkit. You chose to play the part of the game that rewards you being able to use the totality of your spec’s toolkit and then complain that your spec’s toolkit is too vast?

You don’t need to minmax it all to gain rating at first. As you go along you’ll build in more and more spells.

Your compaint is the same as a player playing tank complaining that the mobs are always hitting them.

I don’t know how you can say this game hastoo many buttons, most are utility / situational at best.

Dude, this might be common knowledge to others, but I honestly didnt know you could do this! I went into my mouse software and tested to bind my two thumb buttons (mouse 4 and mouse 5 I believe) to be ctrl and alt and it worked!

I have around 15 (give or take) binds that I can use “comfortably” without any modifier, and with shift that doubles it to 30. I dont really use ctrl or alt since I find them awkward to reach, but if they are on my mouse thumb they are no problem! I can easily reach around 60 binds now using this method. Not that I need that many atm, but if I reroll something that does this could come in handy!

I dont usually post but I felt I had to just to thank you for this neat lil’ trick.

Awesome to hear

I use these key binds for shortcuts and most of them with either shift/ctrl/alt modifiers or I just make a macro.

Also, transformed my middle click with mouse original soft to “=” so now I can mouse over with the middle click.

I use the mouse button: scroll (both), middle click (=), left side thumb buttons, and even the left and right scroll button (i have those, and use them for pet attack macros)
Q, E, F, R, T, X, C, V, G, 1-5 (I can’t use 6-9 as they are too far)

I also use Shift + E and Shift + Q to toggle to another action bar and use a niche ability, and
“~” button to go back to the original action bar (learned this from GW2 engineer lol, from using kits all the time)

I use keypad for niche stuff like, character and talents, saved some camera zoom and use keypad to quick switch them, ctrl and +/- for manual camera zoom, but I use the saved camera settings.

Mainly use alt and shift as ctrl is in an uncomfortable position.

Also kudos to retail mouse over settings! now you can use abilities mouse over by enabling the feature, and set it to non, after that you can use mouse over without a macro on anyone, altough sometime it doesn’t work with raid plates and party dunno why.

ps. I use middle click for quick heals, usually macro 2 abilities to use, like priests shield and flash heal, and shift + = (middle mouse) for flash.

Hes one of the best players in the world, hes doing that to get over 2400 on every spec out of boredom.

Hes doing so well because he plays the game for a living and has a deep understanding and awareness of exactly whats happening and what the next move is going to be etc. His binds are poor there because hes just thrown them together because hes doing 30+ specs at a time.

So kinda irrelevant.

I also agree, I think there are far too many buttons atm.
Before I’ve even cast a heal or damage spell on holy I have PI, mass dispel, shackle undead, dominate mind, fade, deseprate prayer, mind soothe, symbol of hope, leap of faith, dispel magic, purify and levitate. Thats 12 abilities and I may have missed some.
