“Anveena Teague appeared to be a kind and beautiful peasant girl from Tarren Mill. Unbeknown to anyone, she was in fact not a human at all, but rather the remaining energies of the Sunwell transfigured into the form of a human avatar by the red dragon Korialstrasz.”
I’m being a little facetious, the mangas do have a lot of fun or interesting side-stories. Trag’s story is a good view of a darker side of the Tauren, while we get some Draenei lore plus an unequivocal Good Guy Orc with Leena and Jaruk Bloodfyre, etc.
The comics are just the source of some of the way more questionable stuff around the main lore… Not just the mangas, but the western comics are where we got Med’an, and the awful, awful incarnation of Varian that ended up showing up in WotLK…
Don’t scientists keep changing their mind now and then as to whether we have more than one moon on earth also? I mean Luna is obvious, but I’m sure we apparently have more than one moon, just we can’t see the others without specialist equipment?
It’s not that scientists keep changing their minds, it’s that sometimes asteroids enter or leave a planet’s orbit; during that time, they are, by definition, moons of the planet. Although I would be very surprised to find any scientist claiming Earth has more than one moon without the word “technically” being in there somewhere.
Fair point, I was thinking of that ‘Cruithne’ but I -think- it is supposed to be falling out of our orbit (It has a weird orbit anyway) and closer into that of Mars. So yeah ‘technically’ we have had and may in the future have, more than one moon, but Luna is pretty much the only constant, I guess.
Don’t get me wrong the Sunwell trilogy is actually a nice manga. I don’t mind the whole story, it has a lot of nice elements which I have used as inspiration in my own role-play.
But the revelation that Anveena Teague is actually the Sunwell which was given a human form (by Krasus!) is a huge “wait, what?”
Anveena is just a reminder that Warcraft’s lore is so messy that it’s far from a solid guideline.
Yeah…I never understood that. I mean what I would find easier, is -if- when the Sunwell was defiled (Assuming it is in some way sentient, which we don’t really see any proof of) that it cast out part of ‘itself’ into a mortal vessel. I know that is essentially what Anveena -is-, but it was just so…arbitrary and without any explanation, I mean why Anveena? Is it as simple as “Hmm, Magic Dragon’s girlfriend?” I mean Kalecgos wasn’t the Blue Dragon Aspect at the time, he was just ‘A blue Dragon’. Why Anveena Teague? Who is she? Where does she come from? did she even come from anywhere?
I mean she is initially an illusion created by Korialstrasz. One that starts to develop feelings and motives. Right. Why Korialstrasz, He’s a -Red- Dragon. She is Sunwell, cool. That makes her fall under Malygos’ purview, not Korialstrasz’ She’s not natural, she isn’t a responsibility of the Life-Binder or her offspring, so how did Kor get involved? Her being born in Tarren Mill is kind of a horrible irony, as aside from Undercity, lets face it, Tarren Mill is kind of the place most synonymous with Undeath, which is a weird contrast to one of the -Red- Dragonflight aiding her.
Another interesting take; If Anveena was part of the Sunwell, or an avatar of it, and if the Sunwell was created by a vial from the Well of Eternity, and given what the Well of Eternity was, an exposure of the Life Blood of the World Soul of the Planet, does that mean that Anveena Teague was actually a precursor to the Champions of Azeroth. Actually Azeroth trying to make herself known, way back then in the day?
