but I wanna use the extra powerful dangerous wicked magic without the social stigma
1; people that overclutter their rp addon. delete yourselves.
2; boring and uninteresting charcters that we’ve all seen done 100 times before. start something new. be something different. there are a lot of tools at your disposal. however i must stress like child rp and dragon rp are not ok and will never be ok. they are not interesting concepts. they are creepy and op respectively.
3; people that dont accept consequences set out by their dm and just rofldodge over every trap/attack/action thrown at them because “my character is super cool and wouldnt do that”.
4; characters that are all knowing and know 100% of the history of the world, old and new. im sorry, i just hate lorewalker/arch mage types of characters. they’re boring. they’re uninteresting. what fun is there when you know literally everything.
5; i dont have a 5th so teyha specifically.
Thinking about it, that’s another addition to my list of ‘worst roleplayers’. The people who are/become unbearably negative about everything that pertains to the game. The people who never have a good thing to say about anyone outside of their immediate circle, whose cynicism means they reject nearly every community as ‘toxic’ or ‘bad’.
It’s exhausting having to navigate conversations with people who are determined to be miserable and irritable about a game they presumably started playing just for fun. It’s exhausting being that person.
It’s a little telling that Pet Peeves has nearly 15k posts, whereas the positive threads have markedly less.
What’s the point in indulging in dark magic if you don’t want to revel in the stigma of it?
A flip side to this is also when people attending an event are just passive and refuse to take initiative themselves. It makes me anxious if I’m attending a group event and I’m the only one trying to take initiative to give the DM something to work with because I really don’t want to come across as a glory hogger, but someone has to do something to further the story along. I hate people who are just passive and refuse to do anything other than follow along like sheep, which is largely why I only do little personal adventure stories for close friends who I know are interactive and take the initiative.
As a result, my DM style has turned more towards my DM emotes being reactions to what the characters do, and the event itself is more character-driven and RP heavy and the characters fill the blanks with their own theories as they investigate, using DMed clues and the environment of choice and I as the DM either confirm or deny those findings when they’re put to the test.
Hear, hear.
Pet Peeves is mostly a general discussion thread.
I too have purposefully distanced myself from the constantly negative discourse - especially in WoW.
I’d say it’s about 50/50, but yeah - extreme negativity in a hobby is very silly.
People who dont react to anything thats not a /RW and a demand to roll, then rant they didnt get to do anything.
The RP was fun. The OOC memesters running around spouting memes or spamming /y weren’t.
ye i agree
Everyone who is an elf.
Unironic /pol/ quoting is the death of roleplay.
cat rpers aka druids who stay in cat form all the time and ‘meow’ and stuff
flashbacks to when I saw a cat & bear rper once in SW
Hah, I stealthed into Goldshire many years ago to see what all the fuzz was about (I was new to AD, and I heard stuff).
Naked human female with druid in cat form… <_<
Yeah, I never returned.
Speaking for myself; I can definitely tell when someone is simply being the one who is actually taking part where others are not, versus someone who is not really letting anyone else take part because they’ve solved it all.
I totally get you, though, that there’s a problem with some people being really passive and needing hands held through events.
It kind of goes, in a way, to this idea of people not wanting to RP unless they can claim absolute OOC knowledge of the events and goings on. Sometimes, the best RP comes from throwing a character at a situation and letting them react completely organically; but not everyone is able to do it.
I guess what I am saying is! You wouldn’t trigger to me as a glory hog because when DMing it is REALLY obvious when someone is just standing about doing nothing, versus when someone is being left out. People like you who actually work to push the story forward are super! Don’t worry.
hahah yeah that still happens, and usually in SW
The amount of guilds I’ve been in where it’s fallen apart like three/four months down the line because there’s been some weird falling out between the officers of who is whispering who for ERP is ridiculous. These people go from wanting to create something together to unbridled loathing so quick. Have to say it’s p. much always been house/noble guilds in my experience too.
This is the other reason I can’t condone or support ERP in this game (the first being obviously that this is a game not suitable for adult themes) - it turns most regular RP into just a pretense for the next sexual encounter.
I’ve heard a lot of stories from people (usually women) who have in-game variations of the situation where they meet someone who seems initially interested in a conversation only for them to realise that they’re only interested in getting their rocks off.
Bonus points for when it’s an underage girl being groomed into ERP which also happens more often than anyone would like to admit.
