Numbers and quality are not mutually exclusive or mutually inclusive, but there’s correlation when you’re talking about an activity that thrives on interaction.
Is a lie, when so many communities there did in fact die and leave. It’s indicative of the fact that OOCers make RP impossible for the grand majority. If your hobby sees you ridiculed or harrassed in a certain space, you’ll want move out of that space sooner or later.
I unironically love you so much for this intelligent take in good faith to contribute to the argument because when my DB guild was griefed for hours straight by people mounting/ standing on us during as little things as 1 v 1 emote fights in Tirisfal I also continued to role play and maintained that community
Guess DB was alright then back then wonder why I came to AD
Except all the OOCers left after they destroyed the server.
I have characters on that realm. There is no RP outside Stormwind. There hasn’t been for years. At least 10 years, even. OOCers killed the RP community off with their trolling. I. WAS. THERE.
^^^^^ It’s undoubtedly one of the most important things of AD as a whole.
I’ve come to the game again from ESO after a few years and RP there on EU is basically like 50 people in total that have a few cliques they’re in and it’s all kind of focused on the same area of the game world - and it’s not exactly growing or getting any better, because you can’t get any RP to begin with without already being ‘in’ these groups. The open world AD offers with so many people RPing throughout it is, undoubtedly IMO, one of its biggest strengths. It’s easy to find RP and there’s RP with a lot of different themes and groups for different interests. The more the server population gets diluted by people that don’t RP at all, the more difficult this gets tbh.
The fact they left doesn’t mean it’s because of the OOCers. Other players have offered alternatives to “the evil OOCers did it!” and they were far more believable than this group of people that would harass players 24h with toys and mammoth to a point the entire servers would leave. These stories are usually just distorted events.
It’s not impossible to rp on any realm, but where those realms had communities to rival that of Argent Dawn at one point. Now there’s barely any. Because a lot of those communities came to Argent Dawn.
Their forum as well, is barely active, and with little to no rp related posts.
Tell me if that looks like a healthy community to you?
Once again a very informed take from someone who has surely experienced it first hand, unlike me who was entirely unable to role play in Orgrimmar on DB
If you were to look ten or fifteen years ago, their forums would also look barely active when compared to AD. Heck, AD forums are just extremely prolific when compared to any other server. This is the problem: you think these servers should mirror AD or else they’re dead, or not healthy.
I remember when you fibbed so much that your own friend had to come and politely remind you to stop capping about the state of their server. I’m sure you can find the post and link it if you like
Damn, a RP server where casual RP / hubs are dead? Sounds absolutely amazing
lol
True but I can enjoy this server with 0 OOCers while I probably won’t with 0 RPers (because I would presumably banned) so I can’t make the same claim
As I say it is basically preformative + to make Blizzard realise that if they’re going to pretend to foster an RP community it should have some protection - in the same way that people who exploit / wintrade etc in a PVP situation, people who disrupt our thing should also get their nose flicked
No bother at all
I am personally in a position where I can have basically any opinion I want at any time. Presumably unless I’m speaking to a clay golem animated by dark magic you also have that power
So sure, I can say “I don’t like the final active RP realm having a super-majority of OOC-only players because looking at other RP realms with that layout, it will not be fun for me personally to play on”
It really doesn’t go much further than that + I don’t need permission to have that position
They have maintained their communities by abandoning hubs and making RP a guild-based / scheduled affair. Is it not crazy to you that the PCU (which is arguably only a tiny slice of the AD pie) potentially eclipses the effective RP guild activity of every non AD RP realm in Europe combined on any given day
You might deny this one but if you do I will need you to construct an annual spreadsheet crunching those numbers for me and then we can swap notes (mine has really cool colours)
It was an RP-PvP server: a different group of rules, promoting the griefing of other players and rewarding it. It had different mechanics, and the rules didn’t defend you from ganking, unlike in AD where you can just blueshield.
Unironically a lot of DB players are behind the “OOCers bad!” trend, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they are partly to blame for this.
I think they should have signs of active rp initiatives on their forums, in order to be counted as a healthy rp community. I don’t expect them to match the activity of a server who has several hundred more rp’ers than they do.
Defias Brotherhood’s OOC problem got so bad that every campaign we did was targeted by griefers out to kill us. And city rp was met with people who genuinly did not know what RP was and started with the typical “Lol what is this? Nerds” stands on you with a mammoth response to seeing it. Hearing of a haven realm where people were actually free to RP, it’s no wonder guilds started swapping to Argent Dawn. In turn making the problem even worse for the ones left behind. People not caring about the “rp” in “Rppvp” 100% played a big part in killing my home realm. People got tired.
