Now here me out! I completely understand why the current retail version of transmogrification doesn’t sit well in the classic universe. As a matter of fact I very much dislike it as it completely devalues finding gear.
But at the same time, it allows items that become redundant early to become relevant again.
What would people think if transmogging was brought into the classic universe except it wasn’t any of this account bound wardrobe trollop.
Instead if you want to transmog an item it consumes the item you want to take the appearance of and slaps it on the item you want the stats of. That way if you wanted to get it again you would have to go out in the world and get it. Not only that but the cost of transmogrification could be very expenses, a great end game gold sinker.
I’m curious to know what others think? I think if done in an immersive way it could sit quite well.
That’s actually one of the interesting aspects of Transmog for me.
For instance in Lord of the Rings, when you see Aragorn, he’s wearing ranger rags, you can’t guess that he’s such a great fighter just from is aspect and equipment.
Also, transmog reduces that “clone wars” effect you get during each raid tier, with everyone wearing the same T1 then T2 then T3 gear.
And by the way, in classic, if you don’t want the enemy to see your gear, just eat a deviate fish, or a noggenfogger elixir… and there you go, transmog.
The retail version of transmog allows you to forever keep an item in your wardrobe. This makes weapons and armours feel like nothing more than skins, hence losing their value.
I guess the point I’m trying to make is that it makes me sad that there are some awesome low level items that I wish I could wear end game. So many cool looking items become redundant.
I wish we could upgrade them so that they can stay relevant end game and I’d be happy to work hard in game to apply these upgrades.
The classic version of ilevel is to know how gear pieces look and what their stats are. Decent PVPers know how geared their opponent is by his look. Any kind of transmog devalues player skill of determining your proponent’s statwise strength.
If you want to look cool you can still wear the gear you like. But that should come at its price of being weak statwise. Choice should always matter, it should never be without consequences.
Oh so there is now like a separate inventory for transmog items? I see the idea in that but I suppose it means fewer people re-run old instances because they won’t delete the item.
I can’t tell you the number of transmog items I vendored back in the day when I was short on bag space.
If Transmog was client-side (so only you can see your transmog, others don’t see it), I’d personally be okay with it.
For example, there’s a hunter bug that sometimes when I attack in melee my character hits with the quiver, and not with the weapon (happening with 2h weapons). But only I can see it happening, others in party/world don’t.
If the same was done for Transmog, I think everyone wins.
That said, this is Classic and there was no Transmog, so…
The only reason i wouldn’t want this to happen is for PvP reasons as mentioned above. In classic there isn’t a way to know the opponents HP or equipment so you have to calculate his “item level” by his appearance and if transmog come into play then this goes out of the window!
