UI Feedback

Just my many cents regarding the heavy handed incentive for players to use default UI. I don’t think its that bad, a few simple changes could go a long way in my opinion.

Cooldown manager: I think this function doesnt really do anything special that I couldn’t achieve by just using action bars, if anything this is more restricted. To me, the only functionality of cooldown manager is in buff/debuff tracking.

Buffs/Debuffs: There is currently no option to have multiple buff bars. Yes, I can track certain things as bar and certain things as icon to separate them that way, but if we had an option to add additional of either and track certain buffs on their own would be appreciated.
Many players are used to tracking their defensive and offensive buffs separately, which is currently not possible.

Personally I am used to tracking everything as icons, not big fan of bars in to track my buffs. I would prefer having a bar for my offensive buffs, my offensive debuffs, and my defensive buffs, this would require 3 icon rows, and currently only have 1 available. Having this type of additional buff tracking available further allows people to customize their UI in a more sandboxy way, and would be a lot closer to what we were used to with weakauras.

Resources: currently resource tracking is probably the worst part of the default UI. I can see my resources under my player frame, or on the personal resource display. The personal resource display does not show numbers, only bars. As a Death Knight for example, I dont know how much runic power I have, I only see a bar but unable to tell my exact resource amount. This is bad.

There is currently no option to deattach resources from the health. There is a single option regarding the personal resource display, which hides BOTH of health and power bars. So again, as a Death Knight, there is no option to show only my runic power and runes, my health has to be attached to it. There should be an option to separately toggle health, primary, and secondary resources.

This leads to player frame, we should also have an option to hide resources from it, maybe even the portrait. I would prefer to have my player frame as 1 big bar, and track my resources elsewhere separately.

Nameplates: apart from the memeworthy stacking option, which I imagine will be fixed in some capacity, my biggest problem is that everything applies to both friendly and enemy nameplates. I can simplify friendly players, but that removes everything except class color. I would like to be able to be more selective with my settings. I imagine something like the graphic settings has Base/Raid and battleground versions, we could have this also for Enemy NPC and Player/Friendly NPC and Player.

Damage meter looks good from the preview, hopefully it will have features similar to what we are used to from Details. One important thing in my opinion is the death recap of Details helped players understand why and how they died, this is an important functionality to add.

Bossmods havent had the chance to try them in action, what I can tell is I have no idea what will be classified as Minor/Medium/Critical boss warning.

I appreciate the idea of implementing some addon features into the game itself, however, having been used to some very “vital” addons for years, it would be nice if they were implemented some graphical mods:

  • something similar to BigDebuff, so you can see any immunities and the duration of a CC directly on the target frame
  • the skin when using the flying mount always has a “draconic” style even when using any other flying mount, I use Girdle addon to modify the graphics and it wouldn’t be bad to integrate something like this
  • I’ve been playing with add-ons for years to recreate the Dark Mode of bars, icons, and game windows, finding them very suitable for Warlock and DK. It would be interesting to integrate a system like this to change the overall color
  • Unfortunately, Weakauras will no longer be usable. Is it possible to have something similar just for self-proc spells such as “backlash” or “shard instability” to add skins present in the game and be able to modify them?
  • I really loved the “immersive” addon to make the game really immersive and very “RPG style” when talking to an NPC for the quest, are there any possibilities to introduce something like this as an option?

Would be a real help to add the option to show the group frame even when you’re alone. So healer can use Clique when they are alone for mouseover healing and we can see more important things in a small window instead of the big player frame/buff bar.

Oh I have a ton of comments on UI. This seems like a good thread for it as I don’t see another one titled for the UI in general. I’ll break it into sections:

Guild UI

  • I appreciate that you have already said no updates in Midnight, guess you don’t have the dev time but if I don’t give the feedback here, then how will you ever hear what’s wrong?
  • As an officer I should be able to click a button and see every alt a specific player has in the guild
  • If that’s too hard then could I at least get a search function? Having to manually search through near 1000 names is… tedious at best (I could use some other words too)
  • If I am an officer rank and can promote, then why can’t I promote to my own rank? Why only the one below? This is a nuisance when inviting officer alts to the guild, as only the GM can then sort it out which isn’t fair.
  • I am seriously worried about guild management for player housing, because this feature launches to early access in 3 weeks and as far as I know this hasn’t even been testable yet. I would love to give feedback on this. From testing on the PTR I know only a GM can make the guild neighbourhood (hopefully they don’t require early access to be able to do it), but can regular officers do everything else? I just don’t know, as I don’t even know what the guild management offers. Is this even going to be ready without testing in three weeks???

Warband Settings

Not sure what else to title this section but it’s about options that have to be manually set on each character and that is slowly driving me insane. So feedback!

  • Why isn’t the chat window part of edit mode??? All I can do is position it but none of my other settings transfer. I don’t like it to be totally transparent as I need contrast to be able to read. Having to change the background and adjust the channels on every single character is a complete PITA. I can just click to apply my layout, why is this excluded?
  • Settings for nameplates are applied globally (yay! thank you) but settings for raid frames aren’t - why? Having to tick show class colours, show healer mana etc. on every single character is infuriating. I’ve been using raid frame addon up until now and that is obviously saved on my profile and just loads, so this is extra annoying.
  • Ignore - how is it almost 2026 and we don’t have global ignore? If I have blocked someone on one character, why on earth would I want to see them ever again regardless of what character I am playing? I really can’t believe this hasn’t been implemented already.

A couple of small gripes

  • Trading Post - it irritates the hell out of me that after I have filled the bar, got the 1000 for the month, that I still get pop-ups for fulfilling more of the criteria - I’m not getting anything for that! It’s like it’s taunting me. Either give us extra tender if we do more stuff, or turn off the notifications, but please stop with the “you did this but haha you get nothing as you are capped”.
  • Accessibility point - when you killed off WA you didn’t just kill off combat things. I lost the ability to highlight my cursor (had a green circle around it). I’m always losing my cursor so it would be fantastic if you added some way to highlight the cursor. I don’t really know what I’m going to do if you don’t

Finally Collections!

I’m a collector, it’s my thing but the current UI is so unwieldy and dare I say incomplete.

  • The transmog ‘sets’ window is a complete joke as there’s tons of stuff that isn’t there. Bizarrely a case in point is the Midnight Epic edition outfits.
  • There really needs to be filters in a number of directions:
    • What I am missing from X profession, or X dungeon etc.
    • List of every ‘X’ (e.g. shield) I’m missing and then the ability to filter by source, so all missing shields from professions, or raids etc.
    • Should be able to filter search by colour (I can’t believe we can’t even do that in player housing decor - it’s brand new), but seriously if I’m putting an outfit together (or a room) I’m going to have a colour scheme in mind.
  • This doesn’t just apply to transmog/decor, but also mounts, pets, toys etc. It’s like I wish you could either start with a source e.g. Blacksmithing, and it would say what appearances/toys/mounts etc. was missing from there. Or you want to know what appearances you are missing and it can break it down into sources, like here’s all the appearances you can craft, all the ones you can farm from raids etc.
  • I do have All The Things addon obviously but as all encompassing as that is, it can still only work with the information your API offers
  • I like progress bars. We have ones for toys so how many we have/how many there are, same with achievements. What if we applied this to other things? Pull up the adventure journal and browse to a raid and get like a completion percentage.

I have left feedback on Nameplates, the Personal Resource Display and the Cooldown Manager in their designated threads

I thought of more things. I don’t know what the rule is as I was the last one to post in this thread. I considered editing my post but then it won’t flag there’s new points.

Anyway these points were borne from some frustrations I had today as I was testing different Demon Hunter specs:

  • The cool-down manager advanced settings window really should be moveable like the HUD Edit mode windows are. If my tracked stuff is under the window, then I can’t see it.
  • Similarly why does the options panel take up 85% of the entire screen? I’m trying to do my keybindings and it’s overlapping my action bars.
  • Oh major pain point! I created a layout in edit mode as a general UI starting point. I then started reworking it specifically for Vengeance DH, only to realise after I had shifted everything that I hadn’t copied the layout. I had two choices: revert and have to remake the new one all over again, or overwrite my original layout. There really should be a “save as” option to create a new layout after making changes
  • Keybindings. Some classes the specs are similar enough in terms of available buttons and how they work that the same keybinds are great - builds on muscle memory. Then you have the very, very different Vengeance vs Devourer DH and that’s a problem. I really need to make very different UI’s for those specs but I can’t really as my actionbars have to maintain the same keybinding layout. I really wish I could have different keybindings for each spec, rather than just one set for the character always.

Very much agree with something like BigDebuffs being added. I mostly use the nameplates and not the player frame so it is quite difficult to see when someones using CDs if they’re not super visual.

I have no idea why:
I cant put a sound alert on cooldown ready for spells and sound alert for buffs?

Why are nameplates font not customizable? Some text for some mobs dont even fit it.

Why are some mobs that should be red (because they aggro) are not red?

The current cooldown manager lacks clarity, on my devourer DH I cannot easily tell that eye beam is ready, why not making shine when ready? why not the same for Metamorphosis ready?

I agree with your point about the personal resource display, it needs more customisation. As a warlock I want to see my soul shards but they are too small.

After playing around with the UI in beta, some things need some SERIOUS work.

Nameplates:

  • Nameplate stacking seems broken, but everyone is talking abou that so nothing more on that front.
  • There needs an option for short names, even if implemented by blizzard. Most mobs have like 3-4 words in their name and the first 2 are the same. Impossible to get information out of that.
  • Needs more customization for aura whitelist and blacklist. Seeing all the auras of allies on the mobs and all your debuffs on the same size is not practical.
  • Ideally I want to have the option to color the nameplates if they have one of my aura on them. Most classes have really important dots that you want to track in aoe, and having a simple way to check which of the 12 mobs “have” this debuff, is really helpful.

Buffs/debuffs:

  • Need a way to customize a blacklist/whitelist for buffs/debuffs and their position on the screen. There is no need to check the duration of your flask during the fight or a random xp buff, but some combat procs would be helpful.
  • In the name spirit it would help if there is a spot so we can filter “encounter” buffs/debuffs, even if we do not choose those debuffs, and is a predetermined list by blizzard (so that addons cannot read them).
  • Some personal auras are pretty important and we need more customization for them. Example being enh shaman MSW. There is no world where it is ok to have your main resource have the same “visual priority” as a random proc.

Cooldown Manager:

  • It is in a good spot, but would really like to have the option to make my own “groups”. I would like to have one group with my main rotational abilities and another with cds, same thing with bars with buffs. Multiple groups would be really helpful with customization.
  • A “resource” option is sorely lacking. The unit frame and personal resource display is a mediocre replacement, when we actually could really use a bar that we could customize.

Unitframes:

  • Not much to add here, but please let us track our own auras on players and blacklist/whitelist them.
  • Using resto shaman as an example, I really like the option to color unitframes that have my riptide on them a different color, instead of trying to fight with my UI in order to track a small icon. I do not think it is such a bad idea to let us track our own auras on party/raid members.

The Raid frames/Party frames….why on earth can we not scale buffs/debuffs, I need a microscope to see them. Cannot track echo efficiently at all.

The textures in the game need a revamp . Up date them in line with what practically every player uses.

The nameplates need massive improvement across the board. My specific grievance is that your target doesn’t scale or increase in size without an addon. Stacking is also busted.

The CDM - why is nothing centred? If you have 9 icons showing, its 5 and 4 in a grid, not 5 with 4 centred beneath. Similar to buffs and tracked bars. There should be an option to dynamic grow up/down and not have a specific place on your screen. Adibuttonauras would be nice onto the cooldown manager/utility.

Implement bigdebuff style auras onto portrait for unitframes as you did with nameplates.

Let us hide action bar 1 without an addon. Let us hide the bag/micromenu.

It’s impossible for me to play without having bigdebuffs, I don’t understand if a target is immune or if it has been silenced

Items in inventory should have iLvL numbers like Bagnon does, honestly such a basic feature I always forget it’s not base of the core game.

Not sure if this is planned or not but currently can’t see it on the Beta

Please add (an option) to move frames around based on coordinates in Edit Mode. This is somethings addons can do, and lot of WoW players (including myself) are on the spectrum enough to care about having their stuff centered and symmetric, a grid is not enough.
Snap to elements is weird, it doesnt just “snap”, it sometimes links those elements. Had some issue with an action bar being linked to my target frame, and when I moved the target frame it also moved the action bar, since it snapped to it earlier.

Speak of action bars: maybe add a few more. Lot of people used UI addons before that exceeded the default UI’s limitation of action bars, if possible just include the tech to keep adding extra bars, up until an unreasonable amount.

Buff tracking: I believe it would be beneficial for both the players and developers, if you could add a way for players to add buffs into the tracker based on spell id. It would be something in the “Advanced Mode”, and to be honest, the wow community is tech savvy enough that it wouldn’t be an issue, can also just add an “Advanced Tooltips” option that shows spell id on tooltips, so we wouldn’t even need addon/external websites for this. This way people wouldn’t really complain every patch whenever XYZ new buff isn’t added to their cooldown manager, they could just do it themselves. Players are happier, developers need to maintain it less.

Player/target/etc frames:
The “classic” and “modern” frames are basically the same, literally every UI addon people use to make their frames into just massive healthbars, This should really be what the modern option is in the game baseline. We should be able to deattach resources, etc from the healthbar, customize primary and secondary resources separately,

Is it possible to add a different sound effect to a specific proc than the available ones?

I’ve been using the sound effects from the old Warlock addon “Necrosis LDC” since several years, such as the demonic “Shadowtrance!” voice when the Nightfall proc is activated, and I’d like to keep using them

This!! This right here makes perfect sense to me. Also, the padding of the icons. They need to go down to 0.

Also, the debuff/buff tracker is not dynamic. They are fixed in their position which is really clunky. It is dynamic in the base UI at the top right hand corner and that also shows trinket/item procs as well. Surely that could be put in the CDM?!

The Personal Resource needs more customisation. I love the base soul stones, but I cannot make them wider, taller, shorter…or even the option to turn them into bars.

Finally, the tracked buffs bars need to have the option to go vertical and separate them. I would love this function if I was able to separate the bars and place them either side of my CDM. For example, dreadstalkers on the left and tyrant on the right. Also, the ability to change their colour.

Lastly, as we’re tracking imps again, just add the number imps to the HoG icon in the CDM. Or incorporate that wildly popular weakaura that Kalamazi and Definitely Not Vlad had.

A few things from spending around 30 minutes trying to understand and set up the UI.

  • The resource display does not show combo points. It is also redundant, since health and energy are shown as part of the player display. Let us switch off the big character icon and this could be the PRD.
  • I could not find an option to display health and energy numbers. Either this is missing or very hidden.
  • I found it confusing to have a bar to track how long a buff is active and a separate icon with a number that shows its cooldown. It would be much better to have either a bar or an icon that does both: while the CD is active, flash and show remaining duration. Once CD is over, go “dark” and let the bar/icon display its cooldown.

To be fair, my first impression of the UI was … okay. I am reasonably confident I can turn this into something that will work for me. But it is a lot more awkward to set up and looks much less polished than what I could get using UI customizing addons.

Oh, one thing - the setup of the UI with some things in the “Options” menu and others in “Edit mode” is horrendous. Please let me right click on a UI item in edit mode and then show all the options that are applicable to this particular item in the UI.

I agree. The customisation options are clunky and awkward to navigate. I am seriously hoping they are reading this feedback and working to fix it otherwise this will backfire greatly.

After latest interview of Ion which now set clear that addons like Elvui , Shadowed Unit frames and other addons which don´t give any advantage to players which use no addons are killed to 99 %. It seams we have to give many many more feedback.

First of all. Like now in beta it seams we are around 20 % of custmisations Players want and need.

Big reason the original Blizzard UI looks chunky and you see Blizzard did nothing in last 25 years on it.

Action Bars:
Positiv:
Every player should have to organise his player bars like he want. I´m talking here about free position, Sorting if first bar should be on Top or last one. How big every Button are , how many buttons in line how much space inbetween.

Negativ:
You can do this but this Dragons stay or i miss something?
You can´t easy Drag and Drop cause old element will stay in place and don´t move away.
Sometimes Action Bars are doing groups and you can only move all at once not sorting.
Only 3 Bars can be in the middle you cant choce to put more there.

Menü bar Display:

Positiv:
Nothing to see here

Negativ:
No customisation here , nothing. Only making it bigger or small and standart Blizzard sysmbols

Bags Display:
Positiv:
Nothing new here

Negativ:
No customiisation opens. You can show your earned and lost Gold like on Elvui , You can switch to show all bags as one like on Elvui that´s such a good way too show you completly bank now you only see on Tap and never everything together , this must come badly.

Target and Character Helth Bars etc:
Positiv:
You can say how you want to see Health and so on but…

Negativ:
You only see Numbers and % if you do mouse over that´s completly bad hopefully onlöy a bug or i miss something.
**
Nameplates:**
Positiv:
Modern style looks much better and you can show some informations.

Negativ:
No collouring like player want
Stacking is broken
Addon´s gave like Plater or Tidy Plates gave players many more options and 90% of this options are missing now

**Player Resourcees and Seconddary Resourcess:
Positiv: **
Nothing to see here

Negativ:
Missing all kind of customisations before players could say were they want too see it , in which way if numbers of graphics or booth and so on. Here work is needed badly

Raid Frames:
Positiv:
.

Negativ:
Missing everything

Okay collection until now:
It seams UI is done 20% what people want and need. Overall atm it is realy frustrating to know how good an UI can look and how bad it look in Beta. Much better then before but so far away of target.

I completely agree, especially with that point: the buff/debuff scaling on raid and party frames is a real issue rigth now. It’s extremely hard to track. It becomes even more problematic for specs that rely on hots visibility - like us: druids.

The raid / party frames lack deeper customization options overall. There’s a good foundation, but it feels too limited compared to what players are used to with addons.

Hopefully this is not the final iteration yet and more improvements are planned. Can’t wait to see the system more flexible and customizable.

Please allow us to detach the cast bar from the target frame. I usually like to have this moved around so it’s easier for me to see when I need to interupt something. Not all of us look at nameplates.

Regarding the raid frames, as a healer I like to have different spells in each spot of the frame for each target so for example, Riptide Top Left, Earth Shield Center Top, Dispels Middle Center etc. Allow me to dictate what spell goes where so I can make it consistent rather than just having it in the bottom right hand corner and it grows to the left in a random order.

Again on the raid frames, please allow us to sort by role and by group at the same time. At the moment, you can only have one or the other. I would like the option for both as I prefer to have frames go Tank, Healer, DPS, DPS, DPS. This can be done in the party raid frames but not the actual raid frames.

Finally, please set the anchor point for raid frame growth. Currently it only goes downwards when you expand in the edit mode for a larger growth size. I prefer it to grow upwards.
