I’ve been wondering this too. People bragging about their AH profits, using hours and hours on this, farming this and that item which they do not need for potions, gear, reputation or anything. only to sell them on AH.
There’s only so much G you can use in-game. Maybe it would be fun to hit max G hjust because you could. But yes what’s the use of G’s sitting in your money tab?
PS: I sell things on AH as well. If I find something I do not have any need for or when outskilling mats. I sell cheap because I sell them for other to use them instead of me just vendoring them, not to make a profit.
Ok, so you are literally saying someone needs 100g more than others because “it means more to them”.
From that perspective, I could see why you’d think a 100g BoE is worth more than 100g, because “it means more”.
I imagine you also think that salary for equal work should not be based on equal money numbers, but on what “it means” to every worker.
That’s not how it works.
Why such obsession with BoEs in this game?
What for do you need BoEs after you buy all you need from the AH with your gold… oh wait.
What use is running dungeons for gear you’re just gonna replace?
I used to play the AH a lot (bank alts with guild banks, etc), and once I got epic mounts and some extra gold to buy whatever I might need of potions and such later, it was just for fun.
And when you’ve got enough gold to start doing mass buyouts and reposting, you don’t have to spend time farming for stuff that can be sold on AH. Leveling alts is quicker too, because you can just send them some gold and they can buy all skills, gears, and mounts.
It’s basically just another way of playing the game.
Firstly I don’t run dungeons for gear. If iI do - and I haven’t run any dungeon yet - I’ll do it for fun, for the experience, and maybe to help a friend or my guild.
I am wholly able to send my alts (I have quite a lot) a cople of G and bags etc. as starting help.
I still do not understand the fun in collecting in-game Gold. I might just be simple minded, but I do not get any satisfaction whatsoever in seeing the numbers in my money slot rise, well maybe that first G, but after that. Nope.
And there’s your answer. I found it fun to see my gold creep towards (and eventually well over) 10k. I could also help out guildies or friends, or just be that random guy who gave some newbie 200g if I felt like it. In WotLK I was able to not only buy all riding skills for all alts, but buy things like the Tundra Mammoth without it making much of a dent in total gold.
I had guy call me moron and so on 15 sec in conversation after he /w asking to join his Dungeon run, not going to lie I was shocked, have seen allot of toxic people, but this guy found a way to impress me!
Same reason city building games are fun, I guess.
Not everyone’s can of Mtn Dew, but some enjoy the particular challenges that come with it. Paying attention to trends, predicting swings in market based on new patches, cornering parts of the market, trying to beat out the competition… all that stuff.
Personally, I just enjoyed the convenience and didn’t really go full Gordon Gekko. I just carved out a little slice for myself and saved a ton of grinding time. Spending 15mins posting stuff for a few hundred gold profit meant I didn’t have to spend 2-3 hours grinding mats.
<OK like people playing the stock market IRL - only not risking anything but pixels Absolutely not my can of Mountain Dew as you put it, but I have observed that it is attractive to people.
Not gonna quote the people above, but if you want to take such mental gymnastics to justify your own greed suit yourself.
I, and luckily many others, find your stance on needing on BoE’s that people in the group could actually use, a disgusting way to treat your fellow players.
But I expect nothing else from a bunch of gold hoarders.
BoE are for sale. You can buy them, you don’t need them to drop for you. That’s why everyone should roll on BoEs. Those who can’t use, can sell it and buy a BoE they need. I do tell everyone when I’m leading to all roll needs on blue/epic BoEs.
Because some people have more than 1 level 60. Im at 50 on my mage atm and i plan on getting a paladin and a warlock up too. Thats 4400 needed for epic riding.
Isnt it funny how you keep talking about greed and how greedy we are, completely ignoring the fact that we also let other people to roll on “our” BoEs instead of demanding it for ourselves like you would.
In fact, our loot system isnt more greedy or less greedy than yours, because it applies to everyone. It doesn’t make anyone get more loot on average.
But I don’t blame you for that hypocrisy, since this false moral highground is literally the only thing you have in this argument.
If a BoE drops then everyone presses need, it’s the best way to do it.
Protects against ninja looters, gives everyone a fair chance at either an upgrade or a good sum of gold and if someone is feeling generous then they can give it to someone who desperately needs it.
It’s a tactic everyone should use, especially in PUGs.
