The playable Nightborne didnât exactly look amazing. Took a long time before getting okayish customization or even have properly aligned spellcasting animations.
Agree, Nightborns are also kinda weird.
I said âmainlyâ. That doesnât mean there are exceptions. Also, Nightelfs arenât immortal anymore after the destruction of their 1st world tree afaik.
Vulpera were also present in Boralus as part of pirate crews that sail the seas.
Not a valid point.
Dracthyr were soldiers of Neltharion. Not a real dragon on their own like the Aspects.
See it like with humans. Humans are weaker descendants from Vrykul due to the Curse of Flesh. We donât have Vrykul (yet) as allied race.
My point was that our wishes differ from the WoW dev teams vision for the game.
After all, they make the decision. We can merely express wishes that will or will not be ignored.
That was the point about that.
Yes. I am sane. Because the Arakkoa are still more reasonable as Allied race for multiple reasons:
- They are present in the realm of the living (or were, depending on timeline)
- They are not immortal
- They are not tied to the Shadowlands as âguidesâ for the souls of the dead
- They are not relying on Anima to survive, a form of energy that doesnât exist in the Mortal Realms but exclusively in the Shadowlands (as stated by Blizzard).
Let me know your thoughts
Let me know your thoughts? Bruh, shut up and take my money. 10/10!
As much as I appreciate the gothic vampire vibe, I would sooner have that sort of drip added to sanâlayn and somehow incorporate them as playable whatevers.
I cannot sufficiently express how much I want Shadowlands lore to remain exactly where it is. In the past.
but I respect that others may really love them and enjoy playing them
Never said I didnât respect other peopleâs desire to play them, same as I respect other peopleâs desire to play mechagnome or indeed a class I intensely dislike playing.
I wonât claim to advocate appeasing the 0.0001%, like one guy that wants a yellow and black striped horse named peaches and we go⊠aww go on then.
Neither do I. But Allied Races are a niche. And as I have said and will say again, there is NO (but one) Allied Race that cannot simply be a customization feature.
Dark , sinister & cunning races in all games have a fan base and the Venthyr nail it !
You have those already, they are called The Forsaken. Well you did until Blizzard decided to " redeem" Sylvanas but somehow managed to turn the Forsaken into whipped curs who blindly followed one of the worst written npcs in videogame history as she spiralled downwards into a pathetic unfunny joke.
As I said.
Of all the races already in the game and potential âAlliedâ races that could not be more of a crude pile of clichĂ©sâŠ
Ergo a walking pile of videogame clichés and tropes, and so⊠so⊠boring.
I also donât agree with your stance on allied races. I donât feel they were implemented for the sole reason to âtrick people into buying BFAâ. Wasnât Nightborne and the other allied races available during Legion?
Yes as a crude attempt at âpre-purchase bonusâ. You could only play as certain races but only after certain criteria were met. You had to wait until BfA to unlock Kul Tirans and Zandalaris
Did they mishandle it and use it to drive up pre-order sales and hype? Absolutely
Does that mean we shouldnât have them? Absolutely not
There is no NEED for them, thatâs my point.
Because as I have said before, the justification for them is ridiculous and the âloreâ written for them presumably during a lunch break is pathetic.
Void Elves. No mention WHATSOEVER before a certain Windrunner decides to use her (spot the clichĂ©) âhidden powerâ, then all of a sudden they have (again, spot the clichĂ©) âbetrayed their kinâ and naturally join the opposing faction.
Light Touched Draenei. Draenei who have been zapped one too many times with the Light. So many times in fact when they are killed they explode like a lithium battery left too long in the sun.
Dark Iron Dwarves. No reason at all not to be customization for regular dwarves as there is only ONE dwarf race, they are not split into the Dwarf clans outside of customization.
Mechagnomes. I can only assume whoever thought of them was either drunk or took way too seriously an in-house email joke.
DEFINITELY, no reason whatsoever to not be an allied race and just customization.
Kul Tiran Humans with slightly bushier mustaches, bulkier bodies (Ironically showing what an actual strong person looks like, much to the surprise of people who think walking around looking like an advert for protein powder is the norm). Again⊠Oh you get the idea.
On the horde we have the Nightborne.
Just imagine going through an entire expansion begging for your help. even going as far as helping you defeat your big bad then turning around and saying âOK we now donât like you because some elf in white was rude to me, and I really fancy the blond tall guy with the scar on his faceâ.
Welcome to the Nightborneâs reason for joining the Horde.
Zandalari trolls. Spent the better time of Warcraft trying in one way or another to use either faction as target practice, now decide âoh hey, our princess was captured by your army and was thrown in your stockade!â angry shaking fist at Stormwind livery crest and reveal they have a massive fleet of ships. Well thatâs convenient isnât it. Just what the Horde needed after the Kul Tirans reveal that they too (much to the apparent surprise of everyone who knew the Kul Tirans lived on a big island) have a lot of big ships and people trained to use them. Unless of course you played MoP where the Zandalaris had loads of them so wasnât really THAT much of a shock.
Magâhar orcs and Highmountain trolls.
Well. Already covered the Highmountain Tauren but lets go to the Magâhar orcs.
Brown skinned orcs with various tattoos.
OK. fair enough Blizzard. egadsâŠ
The only. The ONLY actual allied race in the entire game that can be justified is the Vulpera. But of course because of the reasons of âbalanceâ that would mean, the Alliance would need to get something, and the most likely candidate would be the Sethrakk, which would take an entire year of QnAâs and in team meetings to even begin writing a story even halfway justifying how a race of walking skinks with speech impediments would possibly even begin to start wondering âOK why do we need the soft-skinned warm-blooded losers who canât take the sun or deal with a bunch of nomadic foxes before they joined the other soft skinned losers and why are we joining them???â
so the Venthyr, who have no reason to join any faction outside of the Shadowlands will now have to âfindâ a way to leave the Shadowlands and get involved with a dimension they had no reason to visit before.
Just so some players can âplayâ as them.
Give them a VERY good reason to join a âsideâ now, and actual reasons based on the previous game/s, and make it believable and acceptable so even the most hardened cynic, ie points at self people like me can say "yeah actually, thatâs a pretty good reason to join the (insert faction here).
Otherwise they will just be added to checkbook of other âAllied racesâ.
Crude attempts to sell subs and have no justification to be âracesâ and not be customization options.
Im still stuck on the âwhy?ââŠ
I mean I could see some of the Kyrian getting their memories back and wanting to go back home or the Maldraxxi leaving their home to go fight or spy (although they would be difficult to have as a race having so many different models).
But why would the Venthyr join the Horde or Alliance??
(not disagreeing with the fact they would be kinda cool!).
Never said I didnât respect other peopleâs desire to play them, same as I respect other peopleâs desire to play mechagnome or indeed a class I intensely dislike playing.
Me saying that I do X. Does not mean that I have claimed you do not do X. This always frustrates me. I never claimed you donât
Neither do I.
BruhâŠ
Allied Races are a niche. And as I have said and will say again, there is NO (but one) Allied Race that cannot simply be a customization feature.
Vulpera
Zandalari
Nightborne
Kulâtiran
All of which arenât just âreskinsâ but okay
You have those already, they are called The Forsaken.
Forksaken arenât that cunning, sorry and with their new leader , itâs more of a cursed sorrow redemption story than Dark sinister and cunning. Venthyr are aristocratic also. Undead are not. I see the rest of your point answers your own question. Not sure why you went with this
walking pile of videogame clichés and tropes, and so⊠so⊠boring.
Your opinion pleaseâŠ
Dark , sinister & cunning races in all games have a fan base and the Venthyr nail it !
This is more proven when you consider other RPGs. They will always have a place. If you want to play as a BORING! human that is your choice. You just lack taste dear friend
Yes as a crude attempt at âpre-purchase bonusâ. You could only play as certain races but only after certain criteria were met. You had to wait until BfA to unlock Kul Tirans and Zandalaris
You missed my point. Completely it seems
There is no NEED for them, thatâs my point.
Well then you donât have a point as itâs your opinion and it isnât up to you to determine where there is need or isnât. Odd really when you state this earlier:
I respect other peopleâs desire to play mechagnome or indeed a class I intensely dislike playing.
Evidently
In regards to the wall of text and breakdown of the races and their implementation. It does beg the question, why do you play the game
Itâs apparent that Allied Races arenât your divine cup of tea so er , maybe this isnât the thread for you my dear
If you hinge upon the lore for your reasoning, you will be disappointed every single expansion. The lore is a terrible sole basis to determine whether a race should become playable or not.
Itâs like your expecting this to play out like a movie or something, completely missing player desire or game flavour.
Alliance would need to get something, and the most likely candidate would be the Sethrakk
Would have loved this
a race of walking skinks
Warhammer fan? Nice you do have some taste then
Also Skinks are awesome thank you very much
so the Venthyr, who have no reason to join any faction outside of the Shadowlands will now have to âfindâ a way to leave the Shadowlands and get involved with a dimension they had no reason to visit before.
Itâs this simple. An INTERN would be able to write into the GAME lore/story a good reason for them becoming playable. It doesnât have to be clichĂ© at all and can have an interesting plot twist. Where there is a will , there is a way⊠and itâs the will of Remornia fool
Give them a VERY good reason to join a âsideâ now, and actual reasons based on the previous game/s, and make it believable and acceptable so even the most hardened cynic, ie points at self people like me can say "yeah actually, thatâs a pretty good reason to join the (insert faction here).
You see this here yeah? This right here This is it folksâŠ
I donât get paid to write game lore or justification, and I only have one foot invested in the lore as Iâm too busy enjoying playing the game. People that strictly play the game for lore reasons are probably VERY much in the minority, letâs be honest.
Crude attempts to sell subs and have no justification to be âracesâ and not be customization options.
You donât need to project your on-going pain and disappointment that Blizzard has inflicted on you previously here
In conclusion, Venthyr are awesome and would be awesome as a playable race. The mere fact you state if the lore reasoning and story development for joining is there, youâre onboard and will be convinced and at peace with them being playable, tells me as much that they are indeed awesome
For anyone else reading
Please leave your ancient lore justifications out of my Fan request
The lore is broken , and was largely separated from Gameplay
Thanks for listening to my Ted Talk
Im still stuck on the âwhy?ââŠ
This is where you need creative story writing, a strong intro trailer for the race, and some introduction or unlock quests that explain it. Along with good marketing for a future expansion (it is business after all)
If your answer pivots on ⊠yeah but why? This will be an up-hill battle
Before the Zandalari were playable , no doubt the same was said
Before the Dark Iron Dwarves were playable, the same was definitely said, in fact I got ridiculed by my older brotherâs school friends in Vanilla for hoping that we could play them one day. HA! Look who is laughing now⊠fool
I mean I could see some of the Kyrian getting their memories back and wanting to go back home or the Maldraxxi leaving their home to go fight or spy (although they would be difficult to have as a race having so many different models).
First of
Venthyr have the best animations and in my opinion are the closest to becoming playable.
Secondly - Maldraxxi? err which ones? The undead? or you can see everyone being a huge Stitches undead model?
apologies - I read the brackets after typing but still
But why would the Venthyr join the Horde or Alliance??
Iâm having a bit of a bad week, burn out mentally drained etc so genuinely lack capacity to attempt to give you a cool reason as to why
But I am sure you can agree, I hope, that some people are so creative, we could get a really strong reason for them to join (ideally horde because Iâm so sick of this 1 for you , 1 for you approach) Like blizzard going EH?! there is a bit of a shortage of âdarkerâ races on Alliance⊠yes yes
Harry Potter sorting Hat
Dark
Cunning
Sinisiter
Arrogant
Aristocratic
hmmm
ALLIANCE!
However , I deeply appreciate the acknowledgement that you also feel, they would be cool
As much as I appreciate the gothic vampire vibe, I would sooner have that sort of drip added to sanâlayn and somehow incorporate them as playable whatevers.
I too really enjoy the Sanâlayn models but I feel that would be one heck of a stretch to get them implemented. If they did can we get Naga too please?
I cannot sufficiently express how much I want Shadowlands lore to remain exactly where it is. In the past.
Look we all bear the scars of Shadowlands, let something good come out of it at the very leastâŠ
bubbly bilbo voice
Like saving our Favourite sinister arrogant aristocrats with their glamorous Umbrellas!
Let me know your thoughts? Bruh, shut up and take my money. 10/10!
Ahhh another individual of Culture
Welcome Welcome
Careful there, darling. My blueberness is a glamour
Blubberness?
Donât be so harsh on yourself! Youâre not that ugly!
We all know as far as the Elven Races go
Itâs
Night Elf
Night Elf
More Night Elves
Nightborne
A floater
TV remote without batteries
Blood Elves
Windows 98
Dial up
âŠ
Void Elves
We are immortal beings anyway.
One of the reasons is that player races are mainly chosen from factions that arenât immortal
EH?!
That doesnât mean there are exceptions
Night Elves were Immortal for most of their History. Kinda defeats the point youâre making
Futhermore⊠I trawled through Wowpedia and found nothing stating the Venthyr are Immortal? Can you give me your source please?
Also - You can go to Revendreth, as a player playing the game, and kill them. You have to kill lots of Venthyr in actual fact. Can we please advocate for game consistency please?
Vulpera were also present in Boralus as part of pirate crews that sail the seas.
Not a valid point.
Very valid point. Being next door on a boat with a handful of pirates doesnât equate to having any real presence outside of their home before joining the Horde
Dracthyr were soldiers of Neltharion. Not a real dragon on their own like the Aspects.
See it like with humans. Humans are weaker descendants from Vrykul due to the Curse of Flesh. We donât have Vrykul (yet) as allied race.
This is deflection and isnât relevant to the previous points I was contending sigh
Dodged the bit about Lifghtforged Draenei didnât you?!
My point was that our wishes differ from the WoW dev teams vision for the game.
After all, they make the decision. We can merely express wishes that will or will not be ignored.
This doesnât mean we canât make passionate fan requests. This is a meaningless point âŠ
They may or may not do things in respect of our wishes?
Ok⊠water is wet
It also doesnât link back to your Tuskaar pointâŠ
Yes. I am sane. Because the Arakkoa are still more reasonable as Allied race for multiple reasons:
You most certainly arenât
Doubling down on playing a LAME STUFFED PIGEON
They canât wield a 2 hander, have you seen their hands?
They wonât be able to cast spells stuttering and mumbling pigeon speak
Present in the living or the dead realm, and I assure you they are in both, doesnât change the fact they are pigeons
What is it with you and this immortal malarky? BE GONE!
Tied to the Shadowlands is the easiest abridging retcon and far less extraordinary compared to previous Allied Races. Rich coming from Holy space goat that was in the Army of the Light. Did someone say Far Fetched?
Anima, again retcon, did you not playthrough the Nightborne Suramar story?
Pleaaaase
Youâll have to do a LOT better than that
we could get a really strong reason for them to join (ideally horde because Iâm so sick of this 1 for you , 1 for you approach)
However , I deeply appreciate the acknowledgement that you also feel, they would be cool
I love these kinds of discussions honestly because I enjoy the thought experiment of coming up with a reason for any combination of race or classâŠits fun to imagine why an unusual thing could happen in the game (mechadruidsâŠIm talkinâ to you!!LOL).
Maybe you could have a renegade group of Venthyr? They decide that trying to save someones soul after they are dead is too lateâŠmaybe they could find a way to reach others before they blackened their souls?
Maybe dealing with souls like KaelâThas leads them to believe that the Horde is the perfect place to start??
You donât need to project your on-going pain and disappointment that Blizzard has inflicted on you previously here
What are you going on about now or are you just singling me out because I wonât validate you with your request for a Venthyr playable race?
In conclusion, Venthyr are awesome and would be awesome as a playable race.
Your opinion.
Not mine.
The mere fact you state if the lore reasoning and story development for joining is there, youâre onboard and will be convinced and at peace with them being playable
No I most certainly am not lol but you keep thinking I am if it will help you sleep better tonight dreaming about playing as a Venthyr.
Please leave your ancient lore justifications out of my Fan request
I donât get paid to write game lore or justification, and I only have one foot invested in the lore as Iâm too busy enjoying playing the game.
Obviously. But to a far BIGGER majority than people who want to play X or Y because âit looks coolâ lore IS important. For the bare minimum of examples, look at the forums.
People that strictly play the game for lore reasons are probably VERY much in the minority, letâs be honest.
Rperâs would like a word.
âVery good sir. Scouts reports RPâers over the ridge to Argent Dawn. Thousands of emâŠâ
and they probably do better rping as Venthyr than as a playable race as they use their imaginations
Itâs this simple. An INTERN would be able to write into the GAME lore/story a good reason for them becoming playable. It doesnât have to be clichĂ© at all and can have an interesting plot twist. Where there is a will , there is a way⊠and itâs the will of Remornia fool
oh dear⊠If the story development team leader gives us the complete and utter debacle that was Sylvanas I doubt very highly a mere intern would be able to somehow justify the Venthyr becoming an allied race without making 3 quarters of the players either laugh into their hands or eye roll so fast they make themselves dizzy. Even the fan fics I write I would feel deeply embarrassed by if they somehow found a way into the game.
But this all pointless anyway, Iâm wasting my time because I can see you have nothing to bring to this debate except âI want venthyr because I think they look cool and youâre a big meanie head for not liking themâ.
Iâll leave you to sulk in the corner.
Iâll leave you to sulk in the corner.
Please do
I no longer wish to talk to someone unreasonable
Good day!
I no longer wish to talk to someone unreasonable
Youâre probably on the wrong forum then
Youâre probably on the wrong forum then
Winner!
There are a few delightful people here however
and the game is in a slow spot for me
But then if we get one, peope will ask for the rest, and let me tell you I had enough of those oversized night fae butterflies hanging around
Itâd be certainly nice to be able to see some Shadowlands folks while in âghost modeâ tho.
Venthyr npcs has the best voicelines hands down. âLive a careful life, or weâll meet againâŠâ
But then if we get one, peope will ask for the rest, and let me tell you I had enough of those oversized night fae butterflies hanging around
This is where Blizzard need to take a realistic, fair & practical approach
I just want my Aristocrats of the Night
Venthyr npcs has the best voicelines hands down. âLive a careful life, or weâll meet againâŠâ
