Video driver crash in World of Warcraft with AMD video cards (7900 XTX) on DirectX 12

Also someone on reddit said the new driver that comes out on the 24th should actually fix the issue properly. I won’t hold my breath though. You can check it out now by installing the AMD preview driver.

Do not believe anything unless its straight from AMD or Blizzard

I am reposting this from another thread since it really helped me, it might help some others too:

None of the fixes that are described in this thread worked for me.
But i have found a fix. Apparantly amd drivers do not put the TdrDelay and TdrDdiDelay in the windows registry and thus the default value is really low. I put both those values to 60 and since then I have played crash free (one big crash but might be unrelated) for a week. (https ://helpx.adobe.com/substance-3d-painter/technical-support/technical-issues/gpu-issues/gpu-drivers-crash-with-long-computations-tdr-crash.html)

From experience this sort of fix never worked for me, it just result in long freezes followed by timeout, sounds like setting tdrdelay should work, but never did for me.

I tried this months ago. It just made the white screen last a minute instead of like 5 seconds

What shocks me most is Blizzard is not even trying to reach out to AMD about these issues, it’s obvious the amount of feedback via AMD own bug report tool is not enough to make AMD make a move to fix or look into these issues.
Probably not even if everyone started spamming about this issue even.

Blizzard could simply contact AMD about it since their game is a AMD sponsored tittle pretty much.

Or does Blizzard simply expect problem to fix it self, im not gonna re sub either way without compensation game has been in horrible state since before launch.
It does not matter if i change all my hardware the issue remains.

5800x3D + 7900xtx i have the same problem in WoW SoD with Direktx12.

Still facing issues here.

I have this issue with a geforce rtx2070 too.

Has anyone else tried going back to DX12 after 10.2.5 came? I’m having crashes sure, but I managed to complete an entire DOTI - Fall run without crashing once. The 2nd boss room in that dungeon was the most surefire way to trigger a TDR before. I also completed a full Amirdrassil HC run with just 1 crash between bosses.

Is it just me or did Blizzard fix something on their end? I’m assuming that this was a threeway issue between Blizzard’s game, Windows scuffing HAGS in W11 and AMD definitely messing something up in their drivers.

It’s so disheartening to pay so much for a GPU only to have such a horrible experience and companies not even prioritizing fixing our issues. At this point, if the issue won’t get fixed with AMD’s next driver release I’m returning my 7800 XT. It’s just not worth the many, many hours I’ve spent troubleshooting, researching, formatting and typing stuff in forums and reddit just to get the thing working.

And what’s even worse, is that they’ve all been dead silent all this time. There’s been no communication at all outside of that one blue post we got. “We are aware, we’ll fix it sometime in the future” just doesn’t cut it.

It’s so much copium being happy to have only “a few” crashes. I should be having none at all. I should not feel forced to turn off features that I paid for to use. Heck, with my good old 1060 I never once had to switch to DX11 just to play the game.

Waiting for this being fixed so I can resubscribe. Doesn’t look like 10.2.5 did the job, so I guess I’ll wait some more weeks. :\

24.1.1 drivers coming out this week, but im having very low expectations since wow has been unplayable for me since before launch, i was kind of expecting a fix early 2023 instead its still broken, which one of the reasons i won’t re sub without proper compensation since my sub about expire i had 1 year sub and barely played at all in that year except early on expansion with many system freezes as result, cos driver time outs are apparently broken in this game instead it freezes.

While my operating system still responds while its frozen but still requiring hard reset.

Yea, don’t wanna be a party pooper but there won’t be a compensation. Not gonna happen.

That is fine, im 100% done with world of warcraft scam.

Used to be like this for me for like a year currently tho AMD drivers are less stable overall but then again running beta driver for AFMF.
Always believed this to be part Microsoft Party Blizzard and part AMD issue.
Microsoft cos they have deadlock issue in all Blizzard tittles which is a Windows issue.
Blizzard cos it keeps GPU bussy in a state its frozen rather then letting gpu driver timeout on some systems.
AMD cos they ignore the issue despite lots of wow players having problems with it, this topic is from nov 2023 however the issue has existed for over a year few months before dragonflight release, and they have yet to acknowledge any issue.
It does not matter if its not an AMD issue or not caused by AMD them self, a large portion of AMD users having problems.

What AMD needs to do is next driver they release put in release notes known issue with world of warcraft, where they say they are in contact with Blizzard to get this resolved, cos it may end up needing fixes on both ends.

Heck why i think it may even need fixes on Windows the game it self and AMD drivers.

Also for those that are on driver that supports HAGS turn it off every driver release you get timeouts, every new driver release if it mentions fixes give it a try again until it causes issues again and then turn it off again.

Most issues are mostly Blizzard fault for ignoring it, even if it ends up being AMD issue they should least contact AMD about it since they have users on AMD systems as well.
The same for AMD should contact Blizzard and get the fixes out that are needed.

Both sides ignoring the issue is not helpful at all.

And Blizzard should be compensating users cos its been issue for over a year now.

anyone test new AMD drivers 24-1-1 ?

I haven’t, but there are several people on the us forums that have and, according to them, driver timeouts keep happening.

It’s honestly so embarrasing this is still an issue. I just did a fresh install of Windows 11 to try and fix this, installed the new beta drivers everyone is raving about and it’s still the same.

I’d say people being able to launch the game at all should be pretty high on Blizzards priority list. Having to go out of your way to find a solution, only to find you have to run the game in DX11 which runs awful isn’t an acceptable fix for an issue that should have been fixed months ago.

Despite what numerous people are saying, no, this isn’t an AMD issue. I’m able to run every single other game I could possibly want to without similar issues occuring.
It’s just absurd.

They are more stable and you got AFMF but it does not resolve any issues in world of warcraft.

This happens cos Blizzard won’t reach out to AMD and AMD won’t reach out to Blizzard as if they are in a bad relationship and in a fight about who’s to blame for what.
My sub is about to run out so i might not be able to post anymore after.

Just install them, wow wont run anymore stable anyway, if it annoys you can always play something else it sucks when you cant play what you want but that seems to be common theme with AMD, altho in this case its Blizzard fault.

I tried the new drivers. a bit more stable, but still had two crashes while raiding. after the second crash, my second monitor was unavailable until I rebooted my pc.

It is actually worse than before.

I am going back to the DXVK solution which works almost perfectly for me.

Hey under graphic card setting in wow it says that my card is on “low power” mode. is this normal with this vulkan fix or did i do something wrong?
