The relatively low classic era population underlines the fact that not many players have used the clone service: It is hardly a money spinner.
If scrapping clone costs incentivizes players to play classic era, it could also conceivably attract some players to re-sub. The character clone cost is a barrier to entry to play classic era and should either be removed or dramatically reduced (ideally removed).
They save money by merging server. They make money by keeping customers happy (subscribed). They make new customers by having a product to deliver. They are losing money by bleeding players.
Obviously they don’t care about money.
I think they do care about money but they are too incompetent to earn a lot.
Their decisions are money-driven but in a very short-term mindset. They want cash NOW. They don’t think about slow progression of cash (like earning more subscribers by delivering a competitive mmo in the market).
I think WoW’s problem comes from a refusal to invest enough to be competitive. WoW classic could be a cash-printing machine ; but they just pay 3 dudes to remake a 15 yo game instead of building on top of it with a dedicated team (like OSRS). That’s a proof of investment refusal. The problem is : if you refuse to invest in an evolving market, you die.
Exactly. TBC is just an expansion of WOW Classic. I play TBC twice a week when we raid because there is nothing more to do there.
On topic - Blizzard need to answer.

Fresh classic servers could add more players looking to do some new characters.
1 month after the creation of this thread and we are still waiting for at least a respectful communication with your ERA community Blizzard…
“Please consider at least to answer our calls by explaining us what are your plans to improve the situation of the ERA servers.”
It’s not asking too much…
just throw all PvP servers into one giant pool please
i hate to be the ones to break this news to you and i mean that genuinely.
They are waiting for you to get out the shop so they can pull the shutter down.
I’ll stay for a while longer
good for you man.
What would be most logical to do with Classic Era would be to create three new servers;
1xPvP
1xNormal
1xRP.
And with these new servers also make it so that the PvP is cross realm when you’re entering a battleground to minimize the que time.
That for me would be by far the best option.
Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Warcraft 3 the Reforged ?
I thought not. It’s not a story Blizzard would tell you.
Vanilla realms will always be dead until TBC is well and truly exhausted. There was and is nothing, actually nothing, that could or can be done about that. It astonishes me that people can’t see that.
Classic has been out for years, TBC for a few months. Work it out. Once the gilding has tarnished on TBC - and no that takes a lot longer than the content-pushers who make such a noise and who complete everything in the first week - people in numbers will step back and choose Vanilla over TBC.
There’s a reason why the vast majority of ilicit servers are Vanilla. That game has greater staying power, evidently.
People just HAVE to wait. Stop asking Blizzard to compromise the game for an issue that is impossible to fix by intervention, and can only be fixed by waiting.
There were too many PvP servers from the get-go, but that’s a different matter. That was all about the ‘cool kids’ following the trend-train set by all the big streamers and the general hype. People like that were never going to stay properly.
/no, not going to happen
sure, it doesn’t change the fact that’s what they are doing though.
Hate to be the spoilsports, but all of EU is already in one pool for BGs.
Perhaps an actual merger of servers (as opposed to the connection of the realms as we have now) is more complicated because of all the clones sitting untouched? What would happen to all those un-activated clones people playing TBCC must surely have on their accounts in Classic Era? To me it seems a problematic situation, since these cannot just be deleted. And there are far too many people who played Classic for their clones to be re-distributed between 1 PvE and 1 PvP. RP-PvP and RP-PvE not so much, since those are only one respectively.
It IS already cross-realm … If so, they could introduce the faction-swap thing they tested on TBC.
More than cross-realm. The BG pool is all of EU, all servers, all languages.
