Weird TBC builds for fun and memes

TBC opens many options for actually “working” builds that are super unusual at the same time.

  • Avoidance Rogue Tank: bosses dealing purely melee damage can be tanked by rogues that got 100% avoidance (they don’t take damage)
  • Panzerkin - Moonkin tank: good AoE threat and thicc fur/feathers.
  • Spellpower Rogue: A rogue that stacks spell damage, nature spell damage gear to increase poison damage (with some off-hand weapons switching)
  • Full Arcane Mage: similar to retail managing mana/power increase debuff to deal damage and sustain mana

Less unusual builds:

  • Smite Priest
  • Shockadin
  • Demonology and Fire warlock
  • Pyromaniac Mage: Fire/Arcane AoE build for use with Prot Palas.

Likely won’t work:

  • Spell-hand Shaman: in early TBC daggers were 1h weapons allowing shamans to dual-wield spellpower daggers and build around enh/ele talents

Anyone interested in playing something “weird”?

Probably not what you can call unusual, but protection warrior dualwield devestate spam dps

This doesn’t actually work on Blizzard servers.

Rogue avoidance works at least in ZA. Very funny build + in search for tank, you don’t need to search only among warriors, paladins and bears.

I don’t know if that will work or not, I’m pretty sure poisons scaling with spell damage is a private server thing only.

Oh, looks like Valkia said the same thing.

Definitely won’t happen, we’re on 2.4.3 so all the item upgrades are already in the game. A shame really, because I found that hybrid build very entertaining.

It works until a real DPS try to attack the target and get aggro instantly.

They are not going to “work” in a real environment with other players.
-rogue tank do no threat
-oomking do no threat and can’t cast spells due to pushback
-spellpower rogue don’t work on blizz servers
-full arcane do less dmg then arcane/frost or arcane/fire
-smite priest, shackadin, demo lock, pyromage all do less dmg then a proper spec. (Fire lock do really well early but the gold required for the gear puts many off)
Edit: So I watched that thing. Don’t waste your time, he don’t know what he is talking about. Just basic things like he says “arcaneblast debuff increase it’s dmg so you crit harder then anything else”
When in fact the debuff makes you cast faster, not hit harder. And both frostbolt and fireball will crit harder.

But look, no damage! Memes are strong with this one.

It’s a weird one that can be used when a warrior/bear can’t hold AoE aggro when casters start blasting on a dungeon trash. Not an actual “tank” just the fact it can have high armor.

And that’s not their point. Smite priest is close to healer build or equal so you avoid respec. Partially true for HPala (full Shockading would go for some Ret talents). And that “Pyromage” is only for dungeon trash with HPala where he can start blasting harder and not die.

Those aren’t actual meta build. Just weird stuff you can do and have fun and make it work in very specific conditions.

Explain how a boomking with no threat modifyers and a poor aoe spell is gonna hold aggro from a warlock, mage, warrior, Hunter.

They don’t have to hold it, just give extra seconds… it’s not for reliable tanking, but for YouTube tanking (and Twitch highlights tank moments).

"OMG These specs are not optimal for pve don’t waste your time… "
(some sad players)

That’s not the fact that they aren’t optimal some of them are just not working. You can tank as a rogue untill the 1st caster crits you can tank as balance untill the 1st flamestike or seed pops. You can try to be a spellpower rogue but you need to explain to the casters and the balance druid why you give their items to a rogue, I’m sure they will understand.

Also this meta goblin is talking about subjects he has nothing but the most basic knowledge of.

Letting the tank having the aggro of the boss has always been a team effort - the tank tries to generate as much threat as possible while the rest has the same responsibility to not generate more threat than the tank.

If moonkins/rogues can’t hold the aggro then the DPS players who pull the threat failed. It’s possible for dps players to steal the aggro even from warriors/paladin/druid tanks…

I know it’s very difficult for a lot of dps players to not just instantly nuke everything they have on the boss the second it gets pulled xD

Are you being serious? You can’t say that it’s the same. Tank specs are called that because they have heavy threat additions to their abilites.

A rogue who needs to hit the avoidance cap would do worse damage overall as he would need the defensive stats and wouldn’t have a taunt or a high threat ability to compensate for this. Unless you are willing to wait minutes of threat time so he can get a lead large enough so nobody would catch up he wouldn’t be able to hold aggro.

A balance druid wouldn’t be able to cast outside of barkskin as the spell puchback would just annul his aoe. Even if this wasn’t the case he would lack the defense cap and would be critted to death by any trash packs regardless of the armor. If that wasn’t an issue either he would need again really long time to make a lead big enough.

You are completly missing the point of this thread tho, this is not a thread about things that are good, or viable in standard group play.

Everything can work if you work towards it, this is not meant for using in pugs, but to make premade meme groups just to have done something silly which require some effort to pull off.

Alright, I want to make a naked unarmed melee mage tank spec. If it doesn’t work it doesn’t matter as it’s just a meme. Right?

I’m saying what I’m saying because these specs would fail at what they seek to do so by definiton they aren’t working.

Of course they can work, we’re not talking about cutting edge raiding here

See you already know how it works. Of course it takes longer to kill a boss if dps have to chill because of the threat…

I bet some more experienced players can make it work. Just add a paladin with improved concentration aura to the group of the moonkin if pushback is that big of a problem.

If the boss enrage is sooner than the tps of the rogue would allow the damage to go out it wouldn’t work.

I’m not sure if they did the pushback rework in TBC or Wrath to make it so that the pushback amount was reduced instead of complete avoidance of it on a dice roll. If it’s in Wrath then an earth shielded and concentration aurad druid would still fail at it. His mana would run out sooner spamming aoe before he could have a portion of damage big enough on the mobs to not lose threat.

Look there are plenty of different bosses with different mechanics… I am sure not everything will work the same for every boss. That’s why different things can also work for some bosses!
