We're losing people alarmingly fast

In my main guild we’ve had 2 raid groups running since mc. We’ve had a few players missing now and then in our second raid, but it’s been possible to get a couple of pugs in. Now it’s come to the point where we are nowhere near full in our second raid and our first raid is starting to get affected. My second guild is also affected and there’s only like 27-30 signups.

It’s becoming increasingly clear that classic is losing players fast. AQ40 hasn’t come out yet, mop is coming out and it’s summer while there’s been 0 changes to motivate people to show up. Not even going to mention that there’s a new retail expansion on the horizon.

So what the hell? Is this how wow is supposed to be played now? I’ve always been used to a bit of instability with people coming and going for various reasons. Now that’s become magnified by Blizzard’s own doing, with 5 different wow versions while doing nothing to encourage stability in each version of the game. Retail kind of takes care of itself, but the other versions the situation is you’re on constant lookout for replacements. People are starting to treat this game like it’s just an another private server.

It was always like that, nothing special

The difference now is that there are too many versions of the game to play. So it’s harder to do anything, dungeons, raids, non-AV PvP. You know in 2019 Classic I could do Arathi Basin pre-60. In fact I remember vividly doing that. Now on Anniversary it won’t even pop (waited an hour) and I heard it’s not much better at Lv. 60, either. So there’s an issue where the remaining player base (which is already a lot smaller than back in 19) is split between all these versions of the game, and are unable to interact with eachother.
Perhaps the biggest question I have is why is Classic Era still around when Anniversary exists? Surely we don’t need two nearly identical versions of the same game running at the same time.

Here’s hoping they stop this non-sense and reduce the amount of servers at some point.

Why I’ve taken a break from classic is because how annoying it is to pug, need to go through discord, WB’s required and all the Hard Reserving stuff bothers me.
(Yes I know I can join a guild but I don’t want to commit to a guild, I rather pug)

All I wanted was to PVP but even that was ruined with AV rush meta.

I might come back for AQ, not sure.

Calm down, it is summer.
Why not merge your two raid teams into one?

Because our second one consists mainly of casual players that play sundays or alts. Then the remaining spots are filled with regulars that aren’t in the guild and pugs. Issue is the regulars have stopped showing, alts aren’t signing up anymore and the casuals being casuals took a break again or quit. We don’t know. It’s started affecting our main raid where now we’re lacking 5 signups on a regular basis. We have to twist people’s hands to even get to that point with multiple reminders. I know that doesn’t sound like much, but the pattern is clear on where we’re headed if this continues. Especially since we can’t even get in new blood anymore.

it’s always like this during summer, it’s just made worse with the lack of novelty now that most people played the 2020 version. AQ40 is also the first fun raid in classic, so it makes sense no one is playing.

Bad guilds also require you to spend a lot more gold/time to even prepare. In a decent guild you only have to pick buffs every 3rd week, but some bad ones u gotta do it every other or even every week. Not to mention using more than 1 mongoose etc.

Roster boss has always been the hardest boss in classic, and he gets a buff during the summer and winter solstice :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Jokes aside, my static that runs 30 min BWL and 50min MC just opened a second raid for all the benches and it filled instantly to 40man strength. One guilds loss is another one’s gain as they say.

Always was like this and not taking a game just as a game is very alarming. And in my years of experience, behaviours like this tend to drive casuals away, especially in Classic versions.

Talking of Anniversary? Era is not losing players. So do not blame the various versions. It is a problem on Anniversary only. And I think, mind you think, that Blizz’s non-communication on the long term fate of Anniversary is to blame.

The same way Era lost players when Fresh Wow came. It’s about time the fresh community tastes a bit of their own poison.

bro era is a garage where u park old characters. no reason for anyone to play when the game doesn’t evolve

It is if you don’t want the game to evolve. I like to play there in my own pace, knowing that my characters and my progress is still where I left them last time.

Yes I’m speaking of anniversary. I do find the mixed reactions interesting. Some are saying they’re doing just fine, (if we had any official numbers it could be confirmed or denied). I do strongly believe the guilds that are able to recruit right now, it is because of other guilds disbanding. Some I know of personally. There is very few new players at the moment, maybe that will change closer to tbc.

That will only be a temporary effect. As it was back in tbc classic. I am asking for change to keep people playing whichever version they prefer. I can’t speak for era, sod or retail since I do not play them or enough to know what would be good for that population of players.
I do know classic anniversary and classic as it was back in 2020 up until wrath.

We faced the same issues then as we do now. There’s no incentive for people to play, there’s no change (because of a certain crowd) and with that people lose motivation to login. It starts slowly until they simply quit the game or for a different version. It’s a billion dollar company that puts in 0 effort into their own product, only new ones that they then leave to rot. There is no excuse for that if you are running an mmo.

We lost the classic WoW atmosphere on the map, the peace in Mulgore, the joy in Elwyn, the spooky atmosphere in Tirifals, the excitement in Durotar after the game. We connected to this game with our feelings and emotions. But blizz mixed these feelings and emotions by saying just give your money. WoW offered us 5 different versions, without any changes, by changing them a little and making them worse… We were starting to experience these beautiful feelings again with SoD… they tied up again! I have 12 days left, this membership will be my last membership in blizz! Because now instead of offering people something nice, they just steal our time and deceive us! And they put the same things in front of us over and over again! This is really annoying!

For me, and many with me … we start over, hoping against hope that Blizz finally cracked the code and gave us the real Vanlilla that we crave, but there’s too many changes (thanks to a certain crowd) and with that we lose the mojo to stay, and crawl back to Era, which is still the best we have.

Then do that, this is not a classic only server. It’s a progression server and that’s what any reasonable person should expect from it. Progress. You have yours, people like me are trying to get ours.

Nope, we most certainly have not. We have neither a Classic TBC or Wrath forever server with as few changes as possible. And we do not get any HC TBC server unless Blizz re-make their mind.
It’s you “progressers, freshies, restarters” or whatever that get what you like - each time around.

Yeah. Our guild master wants us to get every world buff. Everyone must flask. Melees must get their endless buffs. We must farm lots of nature resist gear for AQ. All that stuff for 1 hour BWL. We didn’t even clear it first lockout and half of raid loses their buffs at the end of every BWL, because we can’t do trash properly. And don’t you dare to forget to GSPP before Nefarian, it’s -50 DKP! I don’t even know, why is it needed, there’s very little shadow damage there… It is ridiculous!

That is ridiculous. We are doing literally 30 minute clears and half our casters don’t have a flask, and half out warriors don’t have Rend.
Flask doesn’t even do anything for you in BWL as a Mage since 80%+ of your damage output is Blizzarding stacked trash mobs which barely even scales with SP at all.
