Some guilds have rules or a codex, if you disagree you are free to move on.
Stop calling guilds elitist just because YOU don’t like their rules. Sorry mate, it’s a you problem.
But Blizzard should set a set of rules or apply enough mechanism (engines) in order to allow players to set their way of playing, or at least to have a min. common set of rules so everyone playing in those servers are equal to each other.
So, if eventually you don’t like Hardcore Servers set of rules, and you want to play the game in other different way, you will still have Role-PvE Era Servers.
I have edited the original post to have a better description of what I would expect from HC servers.
As a software engineer, I know multiple things I’d posted will imply some software development by Blizzard, that I don’t know If they will be interested in take 'em down … surely they won’t. So at the very end I think it will be required that the HC community add-on evolves.
Also I’ve tried to grab some ideas from other players.
Thanks all for your feedback, suggestions and ideas.
The only thing you can expect from HC servers is people laughing their off because they see you dying on youtube compilations after wasting hundreds of hours in a game that has not been good since 2012.
I think limited trade would be better. We could have trade brackets just as we have BG brackets. No trade before lvl 10. When you hit 10 you can trade with people lvl 10-19. As soon as you hit 20 you can no longer trade with people lvl 19 or lower. Only people lvl 20-29. This include both AH, opening trade window and sending mail. Some profession will on occasion require stuff not getting from you main collecting profession, like leather for some BS recepies, Wildwine and some potions for some Tailoring and LW recepies. With trading brackets you can trade with other people around your lvl, but you can not get boosted with neither gold or items from you lvl 60.
We can agree to disagree. Solo play in WoW isn’t the point of WoW.
HC pushes anti-socialism in an MMORPG, Aggren even said this himself. Loosely put he said they’re not happy with the way the players interact with others.
I like the idea of having Hardcore servers as well. I’ll try and list what I would like to have on a HC official server.
- Death
a. Death = Spirit (no release spirit button or accept resurrection of any form)
They can remove the world resurrection spirits and only allow anks, soulstones, battle and normal res, as well as res items to be used in BG and 40man Raid instances. That way you can also pvp and have raid progress on a Hardcore server.
b. Bubble+HS, Light of Elune+HS… can be fixed by making HS a 15 sec cast - AH, trade and mail
a. Allow Auction House (maybe make AH cut 50%)
b. Allow Trade and mail (disable money trading/sending)
c. Item drops in open world above green are BoP (this cuts drastically in the AH and Trade but it is a good anti-farming, anti-botting option) - PvP and griefing
a. enable/disable activation allowed only in Ogrimmar and SW (transfers caracter on PvP layer)
b. if a mob loses all aggro on tag caracter it should evade to full health and back to his spot (less griefing posssibility)
c. all mobs evade back to their spot after 100 yards of chase (no more guards killing your elite mobs) - Dungeons
a. 1 Dungeon lockout per Day
b. Item drops become BoP when the player exits the dungeon
c. Entrance check: Only allowed to enter if you meet the level Requirement writen on the Meeting Stone (ex. Wailing Caverns Level 17-24), once entered you get saved to the instance and can reenter the same instance even if you have dinged meanwhile, until the next day when Instance lockout gets reset
d. No more leave group and get ported out (unless in 40man Raids or BGs) - Buffs
a. Druid, Mage, Priest… buffs only allowed while grouped for your party members (buff is removed when you exit the party)
b. World Buffs only allowed on level 60 caracters - Achievements
Make achievements for everything else and allow the players to restrict their own game play as much as they want to (ex: no mailbox, no trade, no AH, no deaths first time in Ony, MC or BWL, no deaths in BG, leveling while PvP enabled, only 1 of each dungeon per caracter) - NO Appeals
I think some of those rules would fix alot of problems and make it alot of fun for the HC community. Also it could be easy to implement it cause alot of the code exists in the retail or it existed before. (dungeon lockouts, pvp enabling, achievements…)
What do you guys think?
I don’t think that this is a good idea. Drops already hard enough to get and RNG is not only an important part of level process, it has always been a fun factor. Since the amount of dungeon runs already restricted you cannot grind for better gear anyway.
Not allowing to wear any lucky drop on your char until 60 could be the reason why players will never select your suggested iron man mode.
Well … is not my idea - is old one. A lot did in 2012 and on till today, many even made it to max. And with no dungeons either allowed green and blue drops very rare - and too exist a Green-man version. You have to have equip at least one green gear before 20.

Thanks for your ideas.
I would like to talk about some of them …
b. Bubble+HS, Light of Elune+HS… can be fixed by making HS a 15 sec cast
Yeah, probably this will fix the inmune state + HS trick, but you will other situations in which you will required to use the HS as fast as possible …
I mean, will not be easy just to disable HS if you’re under some “conditions” or with some buffs?
d. No more leave group and get ported out (unless in 40man Raids or BGs)
This is a common pattern to leave wipes in dungeons and not get death. I will still permit it.
Is not mine.
You can check the ironman rules here.
And, I will try soon or later …
Yeah, it makes no sense to me. Not using any profession or any drop on your char makes all WoW features obsolete. I mean removing every single feature and fun factor of WoW doesn’t make the game hardcore it makes WoW useless.
thanks for information
…
No it’s not, it’s just people like to claim it is for bragging rights. If you’re invested enough in the game to play HC you very likely already know the few sketchy areas and quests of the miniscule vanilla world and how to best avoid possible threats. I mean this is not a Souls game or some ridiculous max-difficulty Mario Maker content that requires 2000 hours to learn. It’s literally VANILLA WOW where you are clicky clicky selecting a mob and it comes running to you and you 2 autoattack it out, for the most part.
You know to not do Kurzens cave until overleveled. You know to not stand with your back to the hole in the darkshore mushroom cave or you’ll get knocked down. You know to not go on the pirate ships in STV cause the mobs aggro through the stair and wall. etc.
Everyone can grind on green mobs to get 3-4 levels on a questing zone. You can fool yourself, but not everyone else.
Disrespectfully, i disagree.
My life is hardcore anyway so i can only do from what i know:
Always enable pvp on and make SVT level zone 1-60 for a minor challenge
It is, maybe not for you. Maybe not for many.
But for some others, it’s a hard challenge.
You just flagged “common” hardcore common-sense rules:
- Avoid caves.
- Avoid groups of mobs.
- Avoid elite or hard quests.
- Avoid NPC protection quests.
- Avoid mob-waved quests.
All of them, until having enough level, usually 3-5 levels above the target.
But you’re missing the following:
- Connection, or better say, dis-connection situations (hardly difficult to improve on Blizzard’s side, mostly relays on user ISP band connection and systems).
- Respawns.
- Automatic layering changes in mob crowed areas (easily avoided not having layers in a HC server).
- Hardcore panic (which relays in the person him/her-self, nothing Blizzard can do).
- Miss of reagents, skills, etc. (which relays on the player to farm previous questing).
- Really bad timed CDs (which relays of player’s game skill).
- Miss of knowledge (which relays on player’s game preparation or experience).
And the worst of everything … overconfidence.
Which make you take bad decisions, as facing that hard quest or mob, saving any potion or other items for later use, etc.
Wait until you have your first DC or griefer experience on official servers without appeal process.
That’s gonna be funny …
