I know a guy who unironically plays on an old crt screen.
He’s… Different. But cool ^^
Do you actually know such ppl or you just made this up to feel better about yourself? Also if such ppl existed, they would be kinda right to blame their poor performance on lack of addons, since none of you could play well without addons either.
My Better Wardrobe addon is what makes me do the big dps!
It’s more just they tell you what to do. I do use them but they help way more than people act like they do.
If I’m playing a mystery game with puzzles I don’t just download an addon that tells me the solution to all the puzzles.
Some NPC: “The doctor has gone missing, find him!”
Addon: “The doctor is in the shack east of the woods. Watch out there are evil bears there get the shotgun from the mansion first.”
No way.
btw do you also get with better wardrobe that issue where the mog models do not load on the window until you reload the ui?
actually that was probably because of 2 things
-
they lied, there was never a ripcord to pull until they actually decided to pull it and had to create one, which probably took some month
-
they are always think they know everything better. Pulling the ripcord meant also more work for them so they hoped they can stick it out
Both of which are extremely unprofessional
Actually in all the addons discussion over the years there as been people babbling about how top players would suck without addons etc…etc… so ye i actually saw plenty of people with this idea.
I even saw people treating addons if they were some sort of bots playing the game for you. That’s ignorance.
You can’t blame people using what game allows to use to actually have better information displayed because you don’t wanna use them yourself.
I basically just use ElvUI cause i never liked base UI, ever. But whatever, tell yourself what you like.
If you think addons is the only thing making a difference in this game you are delusional.
Computational addons become important if Blizzard, instead of making Addons a side useful thing, start to design fights like the Dreadlords in SOTFO thinking “oh people use addons anyway let’s make it complicated even for addon users”.
You could play Aberuss without any addons and be completely fine. Especially NM/HC.
Ive never used an addon before, you dont need them for ‘casual mode’. ![]()
Although its kinda weird to be using them in high level content if you think about it. Presumably people are doing that because they like a challenge and yet they add something to their game to make it less challenging!
if you say so
My experience with m+:
Every spell important to interrupt makes littlewigs do a very shrill noise. Most important mechanics are just called out with a big noise by little wigs too, and if you know how to react, it becomes trivial. As soon as I hear the shrill noise I just tab target and use my interrupt key. People think this is skillful, because they only play wow, but it’s not. It’s only an artificial barrier to entry for a new player, and me doing this has also nothing to do with skill. The only reason so many people can do so high keys are addons like this. If addons were disabled, the game would be extremely hard, and almost everyone woule cry out loud for a big simplification. Addons are only necessary, because the skill and focus required to play is adjusted very likely to addon usage. Addons make dungeons trivial, and at the same time, many dungeons may be too hard without addons to be played for a lot of people. This is a very weird skill floor to have in game.
To shorten the learning time, and to equalize the playing field between players.
If you have two players in your raid group, with one of them really good with audio ques, and the other with visual ques your first choice should not be to drop out either of them when a mechanic comes into play that either cannot pick up because of disability or lack of attentiveness. Addons help these people perform better in their role and learn the fight at roughly the same pace.
DBM in this case works exactly like your raid leader callouts use to work. The difference here is that there were a lot of variation between the performance of raid leaders, and it put a lot of strain on them as a result.
In the end addons are about as useful as an individual makes it out to be. Most people cannot even handle, or understand what information they are getting, so for quite a few to think that addons are the magical solution of their misplays is silly. If that would be true then people would not be wiping in LFR the moment anything even remotely mechanic-like occurs.
I do not think that class complexity has anything to do with it either, as people have been using weakauras since the game got a major prune (Legion) and yet it did not raise the average skill level of the playerbase one bit.
That said classes could use a lower skill floor so they are easier to do okay with.
As to answer OP’s question: no, I would not play on an addonless server.
It is not a good idea to divide the community with further versions. Don’t use it if you don’t like it.
I’ve been playing without “combat helper” addons since the game started and had no problems with bosses or pvp up to about Legion .
Somewhere around that time the dev team started developing the game for “combat addons” and it added way too much stuff to manually track .
Check the Adventure guide of a boss and only reading all the abilities takes 5 minutes . PvP is the same . Way too many modifiers that boost the damage by 50 or 100 % on shorts cds like 30 sek or a minute with 0 visibility , when back in the Pandaria , you literally had 1-2 major cd to track and 1 or 2 major defensive cds . (which were all 2-3 min and fairly visible >>> strong glow >> now everything explodes in fireworks by default)
Do I prefer the game without addons ? Yes . For one you do not install third party code , which may or may not be malicious .
For second it shows the skill of a player and how much they played , not the abilities to play whack a mole tracking timers .
BGs were much more fun , when you did not show up on the map and are visible trough walls carrying the flag . Visibility trough walls in PvP should be removed as this takes a way one part of the tactical gameplay .
The current state of the game without addos feels very handicapped , because it is designed with them in mind . So yea a game design where combat addons are blocked by default sounds better as it would be designed different .
The only things that needs to be added is really coordinates and damage meter .
Just remove it man, and if people can’t perform the same relatively to others without it, it’s just a skill issue at the end of the day, just like it has been a skill issue in their own view for others, who don’t use them.
I understand your point, but people are already complaining WoW is a hard game and requesting to simplify it.
I know what you are thinking, the game itself will become easier in time without add-ons. For combat addons, it is ok. But there are many other very useful addons makes life much easier.
Bloated doesn’t mean hard. WoW is hard in a sense, where there is too much information, and people have to rely on addons to filter the important information out for them. They should simplify the game and remove all addons, so it’s an actual skill difference between any new player and a seasoned player, and not a difference in information obtained from your screen in an efficient way.
That would be bad and here is why:
- I won’t be able to customize my map
- I won’t be able to hide the talking head & cinematics
- I won’t be able to plan good the M+ route
- I won’t be able to save more than 20 outfits
And this is only part of the things I won’t be able to do.
19 years ago when wow launched it had not a single addon as they were not a thing then, but devious players put a few in their games and blizzard banned them and started the process of only wow approved addons were allowed , now they are out of control and need to be cut right back , i have watched game play footage with 48 addons up and running on the players screen, it is as plain as the nose on your face the addons were playing the game more than the player , this needs to stop right now and blizzard must act while they have a game left to save .
Uhuh, and these addons dont happen to be the ones that screwed with the files so they could jump under the map in WSG and cap the flag with no resistance?
